He was visibly livid during and after his post match interview on Sky last night. Could see how much it meant to him and how desperate he was to win that game. He was exceptional when he came on. Has to start on Saturday for me. He's our most consistent match winner. I think he's suffered in terms of starts for being better off the bench than Philogene but I just always feel more confident when he's on the pitch.

And that is in part why Clarke was unable to come and have such a huge impact

If JP is "a bit loose", prescribe these before Saturday...

Yes Azor was done time and again, worst I've seen from him since the opening day, just need to drag him through one last time hopefully. Haven't seen what the feedback was on Neil but I thought some of his quick passing through the middle made a real difference; there are obvious down sides to other parts of his game but it was mostly a good one to put him into.

I thought it was Neil's best game for us since Swansea. A few times his touch let him down or he got bypassed too easily but his use of the ball and all round energy were crucial to how we played last night. There's definitely a player in there, a very decent one, but he's not shown it consistently enough and I don't think he's Prem ready unfortunately.

He'll start, Philogene looked cooked.

Walton
Furlong O'Shea Greaves Davis
Matusiwa Taylor
McAteer Mehmeti Clarke
Hirst

Have to go with that same back 4 if fit, and then 5 changes within the other 6 for freshness. I thought Matusiwa was absolutely dreadful last night, but we need 1 more big game from him.

No Hirst for me, keep Azon in the team. Causes trouble, cant finish but we seem to make more happen when he plays. Hirst doesnt do anything.

Neil doesn't remotely have the physicality for the Premier League. You can see why Sunderland ditched him.

Matusiwa looks like he is playing through an injury, could be wrong though.

He's not been at his best since the dead leg. I imagine trying to play the way he does when you're not fully fit probably takes it out of you.

If we had a full week between games I'd agree, Azon has shown a lot more lately than Hirst and certainly played his part in these better performances since the Pompey debacle.

Depends how much he's got in the tank I think, I'm swayed more by Hirst's freshness against a side that haven't had a midweek game than anything else.

I think starting him is risky.

Hes had some terribly starting roles. And we dont tend to get much from jayden when he comes on as sub.

If clarke can come on and perform like that sat then keep it the same.

In fairness we haven't had much from Jaden as a starter since he came back from injury.

We haven't but we still get more from him as a starter than that of a sub.

Just think if Clarke starts and doesn't have a good game... we're then possibly relying on jayden who doesn't quite hit the same mark as a finisher, whereas with Clarke most of his sub appearences have been pretty spot on.

It seems bizarre that in such an important game to have your most threatening player on the bench but this scenario builds up a case for it here.

I dont think Matusiwa has ever recovered from his dead leg a couple of weeks or so ago as he has not been quite the same , or maybe he is just running on empty after being more or less an ever present .

We've flogged Azor when there were opportunities to rest him. Portsmouth away just a few days after he was at walking pace against Norwich is a prime example.

We have Neil, Taylor, Nunez and Cajuste who all play in midfield. That McKenna plays an unfit Matusiwa shows a lack of trust in the players I've listed.

He was having to carry a midfield of Neil and Nunez against our equals on terms of squad strength tbf.

Jack was immense when he came on, dragged us from up against it to almost winning it. Every time he steps off the bench he brings something, and as much as his performances deserve starts, if there's 1 guy I want coming off the bench in a tough game, it's him.

I think we'll be looking at a very similar starting 11 at the weekend. JP made Bree work even if the end product wasn't really there, against QPR I think he'll have more opportunity to shine.

Harsh on Azon, that! - other than Clarke, I thought he was our clear and obvious MOTM.

I don't disagree but he's the only one of our forward players to start all of the last 4 games, including 3 big away shifts in 6 days. Was coming at it from a place of freshness rather than pecking order.

Very fair- I've watched all the games but not really been keeping mental note of who's starting when and how many in a row- you're quite right, it's been a grueling schedule.

That’s our best starting 11 for sure - I’d add KM has always wanted his best 11 after changes late in games or at least one poker that can improve us.

Hutchinson didn’t start consecutive league games until February, let that sink in.

Whether the same decisions get the same outcomes though, we’ll see.

Logic suggests more minutes for players, but tired legs from the opposition can be the edge. Time will tell.

If the game is 1-1 come minute 70 on Saturday, who would you want coming on to win you the game ?

The answer is Jack Clarke. We have won lots of home games with JP starting and then Clarkey off the bench. Has to be same again.

Neil was decent enough on the ball I thought but he looked well off the pace to me.

Matusiwa didn't have a good game but there was so many times he was left isolated by Nunez and Neil.

I’m finding Nunez really isn’t all that. Controversial I know, but apart from a couple of free kicks and a few decent passes over about 25 games he really isn’t that outstanding at all.

He’s got like 8 assists, doesn’t he? Hasn’t played well since he came back from injury, but I think you’re being harsh.

I know for a fact that JC is one of the most driven members of that squad, he is ultra competitive and also was very unhappy with his Prem performances last year and is desperate to get back there again and show he can do it.

I would back him to show he can do it this time around.

Injury does appear to have hurt the likes of Azor, Mehmeti and Nunez. Three incredibly important individuals in key positions.

I've always had but question marks over his decision making - he's like an excited puppy if it drops to him anywhere around the box.

He's made some good contributions though, just a shame he hasn't yet found his groove again since the injury. Not a starter on Saturday for me.
