| Saints apparently spied on Ipswich and Wrexham 12:10 - May 13 with 4361 views | IP1Blue | According to the Boro forum - the two other clubs that have since reported they were spied on was Ipswich and Wrexham. No idea if any truth in it but they seem to be saying it is us two. If you’re Wrexham, after losing 5-1 you could argue it derailed your season If all 3, turn out to be upheld, how can Southampton be allowed to go up? https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport | | | | |

It's impossible to gauge what effect it would have on a game, there are too many factors involved. If it is proven, though, it IS an advantage for Southampton, and it's undeniable cheating. The EFL really should make an example of them, to stop this kind of thing from happening again.
| Saints apparently spied on Ipswich and Wrexham on 12:34 - May 13 with 2782 views | OldFart71 | I suppose spying on a club is classed as watching their training, set pieces etc. But scouts, managers etc have been to games to look over the opposition for years. I really don't get the need for that type of sussing out of your opponents. There are only so many ways you can take corners, free kicks etc and at some stage they will be tried in a match. With so much coverage of games on tv an opposing manager doesn't even need to leave the comfort of his home. | | | |

If proven then it’s a rule break, and done more than once, regardless of the outcome. I believe that all options for sanctions are possible, but realistically it seems unlikely that they’ll get thrown out of the play offs (mores the pity) and a fine and points deduction applied. IIRC points deductions would be applied in the PL now, should they go up, which would be good for all concerned in the circumstances- Championship clubs don’t have them in their league, Saints get a meaningful penalty for their sins. I don’t think a transfer embargo likely as this isn’t a financial rule break.

Spot on. It is deliberately going against the rules to gain an obvious advantage, apparently multiple times. In any sane ruling they are punished severely. It shouldn't matter if they lost every game they spied on, or won them all 5-1. They were deliberately and I imagine quite methodically, trying to cheat.

The Boro manager was saying he changed the sides shape to a new shape specifically to play Southampton. First time they’d tried it this season. No way you’d figure that out from watching their previous matches on the telly. This is pretty bad. I can’t see how Southampton can be allowed to be promoted. But then again if they beat Hull, who goes up in their place?
| Saints apparently spied on Ipswich and Wrexham on 12:41 - May 13 with 2619 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | Of course they did. I think its quite quickly going to come out that this has been going on all season. Eckert was asked directly about this and he doesn't want to answer. He is caught red handed and may still get a promotion out of it. Shameless stuff. | |

When the ball boy refused to give the ball back last night and it kicked off, the commentator said there is a pattern of behaviour. It's an interesting point. Is it Eckert directing it? He does come across as a bit of a bell so it wouldn't surprise me. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yes, I don't disagree on the more substantial point here. Leeds got fined £200k or something for spying on Derby and that was before there was a proper rule in place so that's both the only benchmark and no longer sufficient given that change to the rules.

Portsmouth, because that would piss Southampton off the most...

They need kicking out now. Any further delay and the problem is massively multiplied. Boro go through.

Given our success from corners, every club must have been watching.

Yeah, he said the ball boy was cheating and " ...there's a theme developing here." That ball "boy" looked a bit old too, didn't he? Kick 'em out and demote them to the third division. Cheats.

Think it would be difficult to directly access Playford Road but Ipswich School Sports Centre adjoins it and a Google Street View drive-by suggests if you got in the right spot there you could probably see the main practice pitch.

| Saints apparently spied on Ipswich and Wrexham on 13:10 - May 13 with 1894 views | Ftnfwest | Having seen the majority of the two play off games, Boro if anything shaded it and had so many gilt edged chances in particularly the first game that they could have buried it there and then. No amount of spying makes a professional miss the number of good chances they create. Similarly we undoubtedly should have sewn up promotion at their place as well. Seems as well that whoever this guy was from southampton, he was just standing on a bit of public ground next to a tiny fence at the training ground and not exactly undercover. Still, whatever punishment they decide who cares? I think if they're kicked out of the play offs then Hull should go up automatically though. | | | |

You can't just wander in, but I think it may be possible to see in from outside depending on which pitch training was taking place.

But Leeds put their hands up, owned up to what they watched and even showed pictures and came clean on everything about it, Saints are fighting the charge, that must go against them.
