On four distinct occasions, as a family we have written to an MP or MEP. None of whom I voted for as an aside. 1. Was a serving Prime Minister, and he met us at his constituency. 2. Was a serving Home Secretary. He wrote personnel letters to us, and other departments on our behalf. 3. Was a normal MP, but he arranged a larger meeting with a lot of local constituents. All of the above issues were positively resolved 4. Was a serving MEP, that did F’All. Guess which one was Nigel Farage, who was pocketing tax payer money for themselves at the time. You have really have been suckered in by a lazy shitweasel. [Post edited 28 May 13:30]

Perhaps Labour should concentrate on sorting the country out more than keep stressing out over Nigel Farage. The two aren't mutually exclusive. It is possible to work towards improving the country and hold Farage to account.

Indeed. It's not like it takes much effort to uncover that Farage is a complete scumbag who is only interested in lining his own pockets and peddling casual and not so casual racism. This stuff is all out there and he's not very good at hiding it. I imagine it takes up hardly any of Labour's time exposing him as a liar and a grifter so Benters need not worry that they're taking their eye off running the country in the meantime. And on his pet favourite political hot topic of immigration, they are doing well on virtually every metric. Net migration massively down, small boat crossings massively down, deportations up, use of asylum hotels down. I'm amazed he's not happier with the job they're doing. [Post edited 28 May 15:30]

I've been guilty of saying that they're all crooks. But they aren't. There are some genuinely decent people. I think what really rubs me up are the career politicians. I don't know what the solution is. I think I can admit that I really don't know enough about how it all works. The minister for shipping and aviation is a 28 year old that's only ever known politics. I just can't see how it works. Why is the Secretary of State for health and social care not a Doctor? Or even anyone that has been on the sharp end of things serving in the NHS? Like Dr Rosena Khan? What a fabulous person she is.

Anyone who has worked with Sunak, fellow politicians or civil servants, have always said that he was very hardworking, detail oriented and on top of his brief. Unfortunately he was always on a hiding to nothing trying to run a fractured and ill disciplined party and was never going to win an election after the utter shitshow that was Johnson and Truss. Sadly a victim of circumstance.

Proper decent MPs do stuff, whichever side they are on, that Farage probably has never even thought about. Ive met my local MP twice. Once she was in the pub meeting a PCSO friend of mine to discuss some community projects and I was introduced. More recently, she pitched up at a village hall music quiz where I didnt even recognise her to start with and twigged as we were chatting about something random.. A good 30/40 minutes drive away from the original pub to where I live now. She actually spends her evenings and spare time getting out amongst her constituents and talking to people / supporting events and communities.

What do you mean? In terms of their populist approach or treating their supporters like fools? I think when it comes to delivery, there’s not a lot of common ground. Burnham seems to have been a reasonable mayor hasn’t he? People normally talk about his record fairly favourably. How and if that can translate to national politics is another question (although Khan’s doing better I tentatively suggest - if there’s someone who’s earned the right to take over from Starmer it would be him imo).

I think it’s more a case that Burnham has now joined Polanski as a target for relentless attacks for those who never really shed their Tory values of raging self-interest, however much they doth offer token gestures of fauxrage to the contrary… [Post edited 28 May 21:18]

It would be wrong to draw inferences. But I just wanted to note that Farage has made arguments in the European parliament, which sounded quite similar to those raised in similar venues by that bloke who got done for taking russian money for raising things in the European parliament. The bloke Nigel said he really didnt know well.
