Who will be the most attractive promoted side for new signings? 08:51 - May 28 with 1378 viewsMatt_Netherlands

Blue tinted glasses of course say us…. But will be interesting given all three of us will likely be shopping in a similar bracket:

Coventry: Won the league at a bit of a canter which players might look at as a sign of strength. The Frank Lampard factor will be a bit of a pull undoubtedly. Fairly central in the country, if location is a question. Definitely a send if feel good factor around the club.

Hull: TBC on if they can actually sign anyone at all! Bit of an unknown quantity so players might see them as a bit of a risk. Although their manager will have strong contacts and the owner seems very ambitious. In the middle of nowhere, which you’d think makes it a tough sell location wise.

Town: The McKenna factor will help. Didn’t cover ourselves in glory the last time we were in the prem which might make some signings think twice, although you’d argue the core of our squad is in a much better place now. Closest to London which can be a plus for signings. Of all three teams we can probably afford to pay best wages.

On balance, it’s probably still us?

Hull are certainly going to have the most interesting transfer window I imagine.

Three promotions in four years.

Players have come (Hutch and Delap) and gone on to have big contracts elsewhere.

I think we're a more attractive proposition than two years back.

I think without blue tinted specs it looks like this:

Manager pull: Coventry
Location: Coventry
Wages: Us
Training Ground:Us
Stadium: Coventry (though I completely disagree personally I think players first thoughts)
Scout Reach: Us now (but close with Coventry who have made some good overseas signings in recent years)
Chance of success: Us/Coventry (there will be different opinions)
Spending power: Us. (Cov and Hull will spend big though) - this is up for debate as well as our bigger spending last time in the prem might cap us more quickly.

In summary it will be close between us and Cov. I actually think for the most part we will have different targets though. I'm sure some battles.

In reality it's most likely to be who pays the most and offers the longest contract

For a lot if players the other criteria will only come into play if the contracts on offer are identical

Of course everyone has their own opinion but I'm interested to know how you think Lampard is a bigger pull than McKenna.

Purely on his name alone or his actual CV? Because based on what the two have achieved as managers it is not particularly close IMO.

Professional footballers worldwide will recognise the Lampard name, suspect less so with McKenna.

It could be the difference between somebody playing in Eastern Europe for example paying some attention to an enquiry as opposed to just dismissing it.

I realise that there is the caveat that It's the PL and a lot will be interested in listening for that reason alone.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Manager pull: Equals. After all these years some will recognise Lampard was once a good player
Location: Equals. coventry might be central but you have to live a long way out. It’s a shthole
Wages: Us
Training Ground:Us
Stadium: Equals. Souless bowl, not new v characterful old ground in need of work
Scout Reach: Us now (but close with Coventry who have made some good overseas signings in recent years)
Chance of success: Us/Coventry (there will be different opinions)

In other words, not a lot in it. As McKenna has said we are starting from a far better base than two years ago when most of the above, bar location, would be Coventry. Both will struggle because bar Hull they have least spending power. Let’s hope we are able to use what we have wisely

Last time we went up we were blowing Everton out of the water with signings which was a little surprising as they have NEVER been relegated from the top flight and are based in a vibrant city.

We have super Kieran who made players better and were playing expansive, flowing football and the location has a much nicer climate than the NW. On the down side Ipswich is generally speaking at least a two hour drive from most places and no-one lives here.

I don't really think 'chances of success' is much of a consideration to be honest. Maybe 'chances of looking good/ playing well/progressing up as a player'. Most players we are looking at, especially the 'big' ones will see that side as Delap and Hutchinson did. Make the most of the premier League exposure and move on if the, more likely than not, relegation happens. Especially if it's picking between newly promoted sides. Hopefully in that respect Delap and Hutchinson have done us a good service, players will see that they can come and be one step away from playing regularly for a 'bigger' club and in Europe etc.

Hull a player can buy a street of houses on a week's wages.
Get a pint for two quid. And get fresh fish and chips.
And if fans abuse him he won't understand their accent either.

Not sure why living in a central part of the country would be a pull for a footballer. Or anyone, frankly. The only advantage to Cov (or Hull) there would be footballers who already live in the midlands/up north.

Not sure winning the league at a canter makes much difference either. Cov are new boys to the prem, we've bounced back, so in footballers' minds that would likely be advantage ITFC.

As others have said, wages and contract lengths will be the primary concern for any player choosing between those three. If all of that is equal then Town would be in front in almost every other metric.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Coventry and Lampard have a perceived upward trajectory. One factor not mentioned above (unless I've missed it) is loyalty. We got burned last time by being overly loyal to some of our players. How many will covventry release? Will they stay loyal to players that got them promoted. I think we're in a better position this time around but we're almost a full XI from being competitive. Of course, another key factor is budget. Coventry and Hull are going up with no premier league money in the bank, only the promise of Millions. Where the money comes from for signings and wages is a good question.

Lampard will be very persuasive. He isn't just an ex big name player with a big reputation, he is also a good talker and a good coach. He has plenty of substance.

Fact check: Everton were relegated from the top flight in both 1930 and 1951.

We are ahead of both by virtue of now being a yo-yo club. If you wanted a stepping stone into the prem we are your best bet by far as we are likeliest to survive in theory (reality will no doubt be different either way)

Ipswich on location is a push!

I think we are definitely the "bigger" club, with most potential, etc.

But fat Frank will definitely be a pull for some players.

I'd say we are in VERY similar markets! As for Hull.... bless.

I imagine we're all much of a muchness from a footballer's perspective.

Bookies have us as slightly more likely to stay up, we're 4/6 with Sky Bet (60% implied probability), Coventry 8/13 (61.9%) and Hull are 1/4 (80%). Would assume agents/players will be of the same opinion and slightly favour us for that.

Don't imagine location or stadium quality means a lot to a footballer. You have to move, that's the job.

Whether this guy is the right manager for you is highly subjective. One guy's David Brent is another's inspiration.
