Has the missed ST renewal thread been covered yet? 18:20 - May 28 with 5929 viewsMatt_Netherlands

Seen this doing the rounds in Twitter and has a lot of traction - 400k+ views which is exactly what the poster wants.

Makes me think thingy can’t be the first person this has happened to?

I’m torn on it… on a human level then it sounds like an honest mistake which the club could easily fix. On the other hand, rules are there for a reason and where does the line get drawn, as the window closed four weeks ago now!

(Be nice - the poster or his son may well be on here)

The thing is, as soon as you make an exception, how far do you take it? 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, a month late? As soon as you ‘bend the rules’ a little, you then open the floodgates for people to expect it in more and more extreme cases.

I’ve made mistakes like this before, and missed out on something, but I don’t go around blaming someone else for my oversight. I chastise myself.

I feel sorry for them losing their ST, but taking it to the media/social media is unnecessary. The club hasn’t done anything wrong here.

I can’t disagree with the logic of anything that you say. Once it gets to social media the games up because there’s no way that the Club can be seen to openly bend its own rules without a slew of complaints from people on the waiting list.

Personally I think that given that it’s a single ticket, which in isolation might be quite difficult to shift as a ST, it would have been easy enough to make an exception on the quiet without anyone needing to know. Ultimately 2 people suffer here, one of whom has done nothing wrong.

I’d certainly be extremely peed off if the ticket became a day trippers ticket because it would then smack of putting money over a long standing supporter.

He’s posted it on LinkedIn, too.

Lots of pseudo-inspirational life/work advice, plenty of AI slop, some desperate look-at-me posts from people who have just completed an online certificate in something very dull, endless messages from shyster recruiters and from LinkedIn themselves begging you to upgrade.

Apart from that, great site!

Thing is, a deadline is put in place, as its the final day that you can do something.

Theres lots of days before the deadline where you can do it.

If its a case of the club pressing a button then they should do it, however by them going public, they are probably less likely to, as it sets a precedent for other latecomers.

Well yes how could you possibly forget to renew? Unless of course you are stuck in Hospital or something?
You know the cut off date or should know the cut off date.

Ashton in.

I really don't understand why anyone wouldn't want to pay by direct debit.

It's interest free and automatically renews, so no danger of missing the deadline.

There wasn't a physical renewal pack this year. Was that the case last year, or has it been a few years since we got something in the post?

There hasn’t been a renewal pack in the past few years. There was in Evans’ time, usually accompanied by a begging letter promising the moon on a stick from him.

Missing a cut off is very annoying and we’ve all done it i’m sure. Direct Debit is the way forward. It takes all the hassle and forget-risk out of it. As for the club’s deadline, I have no problem with it. Given the numbers and timescales I don’t see how else they can do it.

There will be exceptions, such as illness, and I hope the club does its best by longstanding supporters should they forget, even if that means a seat somewhere else.

The poor soul is clearly still so upset he has posted the whole thing on LInkedin which is a professional work related platform. He really does come across as somewhat arrogant and is clearly thinking he is so special he wants the club to change their mind - which would open up a whole minefield as plenty of others missed the cut off.

Really tricky one. You don't want to be overly harsh on someone for an honest mistake but if you miss the renewal deadline by weeks then unless you've been in a coma that's probably the point at which the rules need to be stuck to otherwise there's no point having a deadline. If he missed it by a week that's a different kettle of fish and they should honour it.

Ridiculous argument. If you miss the deadline by a minute you should lose the seat. Deadlines are there for a reason. It makes a mockery of having a ST waiting list otherwise.

Its not up to the club to assume non renewals are mistakes. ITFC is also a business so they will fill the seat. End of.
Sad for the bloke and if they deal with it better he could possibly get himself to the top of the list for next year??

Perhaps the club could have a yearly DD, for fans that only want to pay up front.

Oh, pretty sure I interacted with the guy who posted on X back in the day, and he always came across as a solid chap.

That said I think he’s wrong here. We’ve got a queue of people waiting for season tickets, and there will be one person who is due to get that one now.

If the owner can’t be bothered enough/isn’t organised enough to make the payment on time, it feels massively unfair on the person on the list who is waiting for that seat.

Season ticket holders have more than enough benefits as it is these days. Paying for them on time seems like a perfectly reasonable requirement.

If the son is old enough to have a beard, then maybe he's old enough to remember to renew.

Would have been smarter to use an old photo when the son was 8 or 9.... you're just promoting the fact that yhere are two grown adults who should be switched on enough to renew. Sorry... there will be loads of people unable to get a seat.

On the other hand, it could be a subtle way of getting out of sitting next to his dad.

Not to say the numerous non-ST holders who have attended regularly and have been given no assistance re: priority for home tickets. If the club do reverse the decision I'd be quite irritated.

He's welcome to buy a membership, join the season ticket waiting list, the ballot and the monday morning ticket scramble.

TBF as a season ticket holder you get:

--a guaranteed match ticket
--approx. 30% discount on the matchday price
--use of the resale platform if you can't attend

It's clearly a matter of personal responsibility but there was also a distinct lack of e-mail reminders about the season ticket renewal this season. I think I only got one e-mail.

It stands in stark contrast to the sheer amount of crap the club has been e-mailing out over the last six weeks.

You should not really need them though. Once you get the first reminder stick it in your calendar

I'd agree that the club isn't entirely blameless here.

A very different renewal window to usual - earlier, much shorter, and with much less fanfare. You can see why it might not have shown up as prominently on some people's radars.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I don't really get why you wouldn't pay by DD.

On the forgotten renewal - I get that some people miss the email but there was plenty of stuff all over social media as well. It wasn't like they just sent one email and left it at that.

Ironically given these circumstances I dont do DD because it forces me to do something to renew, which reminds me to do it...

And Fwiw i only got two emails about renewing, and one of those was to apologise because theyd got my supporter id wrong. I dont recall even getting a proper announcement email, that annoyed me more that the press published all the details before the club had even bothered to tell exisiting ticket holders about it

But effectively i just got a single reminder email. Though I dont know if renewing means they're smart enough to stop reminding you, but I certainly didnt renew straight away just to avoid all the queuing on the website, whilst we were still selling matchday tickets too. I waited about a week.

I know someone else who forgot, but no idea if they've missed out or not, find out next season I guess.

Can you imagine the earache you'd get if you bought his son's seat?

"If you're not going any games, can my son have his seat back? Are you coming to Leeds game next Sunday?"

"What about the Arsenal game?"

"You're planning on coming all the games? Really?"

"My son's got a ticket for the Everton game. Do you mind swapping seats?"
