….that Fulham will make a move for KM once Silva to Benfica is confirmed.

They’ve offered Silva £8m a year to stay but it looks like he’s turned it down, so on the face of it money won’t be an issue for them.

This is probably the only real risk we have of losing him this summer.

I know he will go eventually, and of course he will back himself, but he'll know have a bad few months at the start and he'll be sacked.

However, they've clearly got better players than us so as much as I don't want to admit it, it would be an upgrade. Having said that, I'd be disappointed if he left for a mid-table team like that.

If McK decides to take up their offer, then good luck to him. I wouldn’t be adverse to a new manager (like Thomas Frank) with a new playing style and fresh ideas but it would need to be a swift appointment so they can heavily influence the recruitment over the summer.

Whatever will be, will be.

It is not just KMc though is it, he would take many of the coaching staff with him. It is the combination of them all that have been a real success. Look at Cook without his wingman.

Yep, this feels the big risk of the summer.

Hopefully whatever happens, happens quickly - will be a devastating blow to lose him but feels like this summer might be the time it happens

We just need to hope that whatever is happening is done quickly so we can get our ducks in a row. I have no idea who we will go after to replace him.

Fulham?! You really think so, Joe?

Our new training facility sh*ts all over theirs. Our stadium will eventually be 10,000+ of Craven Cottage. If we get this season right, we could be set to overtake the likes of Fulham in 18 months.

I know a couple of Fulham fans. They know full well they are, to a certain degree, punching above their weight.

This isn't new though - Talksport speculatively linked McKenna with Fulham and Palace 3 weeks ago.

I'm not saying it won't happen, but right now it's just part of the media manager merry-go-round talk that's inevitable over the summer.

How attractive is that Fulham job ?

It goes without saying that they will have a better chance at Premier League survival than we do but that squad doesn't seem overly exciting to me. Feel like Silva is the reason they have survived so comfortably. They were a team I think might have a few issues if Silva went.

Hopefully KM stays.

Can't see him going Fulham, sideways step.

They're a side I can see struggling next season without Silva.

Would I prefer KM to stay …. Absolutely.

But … I also appreciate it’s a tough situation for him. Last time round, with his stock very high, he did the right and honourable thing and stayed. But as we now know, it didn’t end well in the PL and KMs stock dropped dramatically. So, here we are again. Stock and reputation is extremely high. Fulham is an established PL side with very good players. What does he do?

I’ll personally wish him well, either way.

The other element is control. At Fulham, McKenna would be working under/alongside a powerful Director of Football in Tony Khan (the owner's son).

Khan appears to be pretty capable, but has oversight of many of the areas where McKenna is strongest (player identification, recruitment, oversight and relations). Might that cramp the Northern Irishman's style?

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

This is where i'm at.

What you say is 100% right, but I guess he has to weigh up that against how settled he is in the area, and how likely if either side had a bad season would he still be in a job.

I think he is still our manager next season regardless, not so sure about Fulham

Surely not as attractive as Brighton which he turned down two summers ago.

From a stepping stone point of view it could be a smart way to get to a Top Six club.... irrespective of training facilities.

A couple of steady seasons at Fulham with a top 10 finish could mean he's looking at a move up the ladder.

I wish him all the very best if he decides to go, but don't want this to be long protracted event.

I'm just thinking 3 promotions and 1 relegation is pretty good, but another relegation starts to tarnish the CV a bit.

According to fanzine Fulhamish, Silva would be on half the money if he goes to Benfica, but he knows like everyone else that Fulham have reached their ceiling.

Despite having one of the smaller top flight grounds they don't always sell out, their attendances would plummet in the Championship.

They are the epitome of Premier League meh, if this next appointment is botched they could be vulnerable to the drop.

Is a couple of 10th placed finishes with Fulham really going to move the needle and get him the United job?

Keep us up and get us competing along the similar lines as Brighton, then as a body of work that surely augurs better for an elite job.

I've always thought the risk of him going was higher if promoted than if not.

The risk of 2 PL relegations on his CV from 2 attempts isn't the best for him.

You can see why he'd go if he did and I wouldn't begrudge him.

For all the blue-tinted glass wearers out there, Fulham, as with Palace are clearly years ahead of us.

Should Marco Silvamove to Benfica and Kieran McKenna stay at Ipswich then KMc would be the third longest serving manager of a Premier League club.

I’ve mentioned a few times on here and on social media that I feel he leaves this summer, whether that was after getting us promoted or if we missed out. That opinion hasn’t really changed. That said, I’m a lot more relaxed about it this time around than I was in the lead up to our last PL stint, not because I don’t think he’s capable of keeping us up, but because I think whoever is in charge is facing a colossal task.

There’s also a huge and much-needed turnover of players required. So, whoever is at the wheel will effectively be building a new team (again). Whatever happens, like someone said above, it just needs sorting sooner rather than later if a change is going to happen.

I don’t understand this. What do we aim for them? To finish 17th each season? Or become a yo-yo club for god knows how many years?

The owners won’t settle for that. I imagine they’ll very much be looking at the Brighton/Brentford model, and even some degree Forest model as to how we can be competitive in this league.
