Finidi? He was best player that season and had he not gone to African Nations cup we would have stayed up.

Finidi is a hard one to evaluate. He was generally one of the better players in a poorly performing team. The team played better when he was in it. We paid too much for someone at his stage of his career. Relegation and the football right deal falling apart made the amount worse. He's not up there with Sereni, Le Pen, Paz, Taylor. Although, happy to concede, if I'm miss remembering some of these fees.

At least we weren't forced to buy them unlike 30 year old Akpom who cost €9.3M.

| Biggest waste of money on 13:58 - Jul 10 by wkj | I must admit I think this is another symptom of society's obsession with throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Just because you've seen a few dreadful posters over the years doesn't mean the medium itself is beyond saving. We managed perfectly well for decades with a carefully curated selection. A decent calendar, a map of the world, perhaps a Concorde cutaway if you were mechanically inclined, and if you were a young chap, Fiona Butler with the tennis racket or Cindy Crawford smiling back at you. Nobody came to any harm. In fact I'd argue it built character. Certainly gave you something to look at while pretending to revise. Every generation produces its masterpieces and its disasters. That's life. We had lava lamps, brown carpets and avocado bathroom suites, but we also had proper posters. Nowadays everything's downloaded onto a phone and forgotten five minutes later. At least a good poster stayed on the wall long enough to become part of the furniture. You'd notice if it had slipped an inch. The problem is people insist on remembering only the disasters. Mention posters and suddenly everyone acts as though the walls of Britain were plastered exclusively with motivational slogans about teamwork or, heaven forbid, the Liz Truss swimsuit calendar debacle. That's like dismissing all music because Mr Blobby once had a Christmas number one. Outliers shouldn't define an entire art form. No, I shall continue to defend the humble poster. The classics more than compensated for the occasional lapse in judgement. Fiona Butler probably inspired half the nation's interest in tennis, Cindy Crawford undoubtedly improved the décor of countless teenage bedrooms, and even the odd naff one gave people something to laugh about. Frankly, if posters are now considered our biggest waste of money, we've lived remarkably fortunate lives. [Post edited 10 Jul 14:00]

Why does not being forced to buy them make it any better? Choosing to buy them makes it worse!

I never get why clubs sign up to be obligated to buy Option to buy or nothing imo.

That depends how much you want the player and who else offers/is after him. Supply and demand. A player is worth what some odd wants to pay. No more, no less. Nobody says nah, I’ll give you more than that. There were no objections when Akpom signed. It looked like a relatively minimal lose gamble. If he got us or we got promoted, a fee is paid. If not bye bye. Was he disappointing? I thought so. He didn’t contribute anything like I thought he would, but that’s the way it goes. The gift of hindsight is something we all are experts in.

100% Value-wise definitely the biggest waste of £££ Incredulous how some people here were defending Muric's signing back in 24/25

I also dread to think what we were paying Jimmy Bullard when he signed on a permanent. But yes, those two were really poor value, considering large loan fees were also likely paid.

I get it but even then i wouldnt go down the obligated route. You never know how any transfer is going go even if you really want someone. There were many objections when akpom signed. Many didnt understand what role he would play as he wasnt a chappers replacement and our team needed one.

| Biggest waste of money on 21:01 - Jul 10 with 54 views | RobTheMonk | Egeli's pricetag definitely raises eyebrows, but statistically I think he was the player with the highest win percentage when playing last season...?! Also chipped in with some crucial goals. Has he warranted being the most expensive Championship signing ever? No. But I wouldn't say it's been a complete waste. The wages for Phillips and Godfrey were much worse! | | | |
