Putting sentimentality aside, I think it's madness that we are keeping injury prone Burns ahead of McAteer.

Two observations. Burns will be back-up, KM will attract a half decent fee/ loan to buy obligation. Suspect KM's wages will be more than Burns.

You can't keep both Burns and KM or CO. Burns is a solid pro and will be adequate back up.

I think you are forgetting last time in the Premier League.

We were in a lot of games until the final twenty minutes. Then the opposition would bring on a £20-40 million substitute.

Our back up cannot be Wes Burns, with all due respect to everything he has done for this club.

After a dreadful start he recovered really well. But sadly, like Ogbene he’s not PL quality. Both would benefit from a move to championship clubs.

There certainly is that worry, but he did seem to come back really well from his ACL. Maybe the year out helped some other issues settle down a bit, and I definitely prefer him as a player and leader. He's one who can make the best of his assets as a bit part player (I hope).

He's had lengthy spells out injured since he joined us.

Go back to our championship promotion. He was injured. In the first half of the season he missed 6 weeks with a shoulder injury. Then he was injured again in the second half of the season before coming back for the Hull game away.

Got injured early in our Premier League season, came back and after just a few games got the horrific injury at Liverpool which kept him out for a year.

Came back in January of this year against Coventry and just a few weeks later limped off against Sheffield United, managed to come back for the final few games of the season.

Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.

I’m just going by his Wikipedia page where it states that he played in 35 matches in that promotion season - that kinda indicates that he has had his injuries. But to say that he’s injury prone is a tad excessive.

Average of 30 appearances each year since signing, which considering the ACL isn't bad. And it suggests he doesn't take long to get match fit again after niggles.

Harsh to label him injury prone for me.

Not a huge surprise. McAteer might have something to offer, none of the other 3 do.

Case of moving Clarke, AAH and Ogbene on to the highest bidder / most favourable terms for us financially. McAteer leaving wouldn’t surprise me, we overpaid by about £5m but he’s a good athlete and not a bad player. I’d take high 6 figures, or a chunky loan fee.

You don’t say!

We really need this squad trimmed and as good as these players are in the lower leagues, just not the standard we require.

Too many average signings over the last two years.

RIP Sir Bobby

” I’d take high 6 figures, or a chunky loan fee.”

There’s no way we’re taking less than a million for anyone.

20 odd million we paid for those 3 players. Wonder how much can be recouped if any.

One argument is that it has been more than recouped as we are in the PL

Of course he is. Couple of Midlands clubs sniffing there.

Well I was one of the very few defending him here and on the site last season when he was getting dogs abuse, even when he wasn't even playing! He did start to show what he may be capable of over the last month or two. If G O'N doesn't think he's up to the PL, well fair enough, I'd obviously respect his opinion as he sees him far more than I do. There are a few others who should be on his list in my opinion, that I won't name, but I'll be interested to see if I was right or wrong by the end of the coming season, and that list might contain one or two that would raise eyebrows. As with almost everything, time will tell

I'd love to see some stats on that, but from the top of my head the only injury Wes has had was that knee problem against Liverpool.

Besides that, which was pure fluke, I'm struggling to recall any other significant period he's had out injured.

I don't think he's not up to a role for us this season (pardon the double neg), but like Egeli, I think he's short of quite a bit of confidence/aggression/nastiness/arrogance. A good loan (w January recall option) and he should be able to get a top of the Championship side with instructions to really go for it and prove his fire. It was starting to come at the end of last season. Millwall maybe? [:)]

Yes, and as much as I love Burns, it is a damning indictment of how we see McAteer that we have given him an extra year to be honest.

Personally I think we still want to do loads of business. And I don’t think we will be too sentimental about it. If we can upgrade a player then we will do and I think we will be willing to let players like Kipre, Akpom, McAteer, Johnson, Mehmeti, Ogbene, Taylor, Hirst and even Nunez go if we need to make squad space.

Premeir League squads have big players on the bench. If Fatuwa gets injured then we are relying on Wes who is made of glass.

Johnson will stick around as a utility option and be the third choice in that role

No real surprise.

McAteer, Ogbene, Mehmeti, Nunez, Taylor, Akpom, Hirst, J.Clarke, Furlong, Egeli, Palmer I'd imagine are all available to be honest either loan or permanent

They are very good Championship footballers, it's just huge level gap to the PL, and they just aren't at the level we need to be competitive. You could hold 1 or 2 in the squad, you can't carry 10 or 11 in the squad and expect to be competitve.

Yep, that is a good way of putting it. I can't imagine more than 4 of those you list will be here come the end of the window - Egeli, Nunez, J Clarke, Furlong for me.
