| House move essentials 18:50 - Aug 15 with 1956 views | Mullet | Cheers in advance twtd hive mind but I’m moving house soon (possibly Monday) and would like some shared experiences or essential wisdom. As I reckon it’ll be a bit stressful won’t it? I’m going to treat myself to a new TV so any suggestions would be great, but any internet providers, insurers, furniture sellers etc you’d suggest using or avoiding would be lovely. The kids need some new things they’ve grown out of so this seems the perfect juncture to refresh and move on some things too. | |

So relax, and trust that you can handle anything that comes your way ✌️ [Post edited 15 Aug 19:19]

| House move essentials on 19:17 - Aug 15 with 1754 views | bluelagos | When unpacking you'll need refreshment, so be sure to leave kettle, teabags, couple of cups in a bag to hand (or slab or cold drinks if its a hot one) You'll never get a better chance to clean your new place, so if you can manage it, give those hard to get places a clean before the furniture goes in. If defo moving, no harm ordering interweb, sky or whatever now, knowing it may take a few days to get turned on. If parking/unloading, leave yer hazards on and boot open, as otherwise the traffic wardens may assume you've parked. | |

Arrange the house first though and don't rush into a purchase. Personally I like my sofa to face the TV rather than have it in a corner, at a funny angle, or too high up. Get the right size screen for the room and position, not too big I would say, especially if watching SD or HD content rather than 4k. John Lewis give 5 year guarantees with their TVs e.g. https://www.johnlewis.com/lg-o [Post edited 15 Aug 19:27]

Maybe get a tv package through BSB? I've got some kitchen chairs you could have for free, but prob a bit too far to collect them. Good luck with the move though, can be stressful, but as someone else said always pans out OK in the end.

| House move essentials on 20:15 - Aug 15 with 1467 views | Swansea_Blue | Pack a box of kitchen essentials and keep it in your car - kettle, toaster, tea/coffee/drinks of choice, bread/jam/milk/cereals/basic dishes/cutlery. Chuck a bottle of wine & corkscrew in too if you have any sense. Easy snacks and drinks without having to find and unpack anything. Other than that make sure the removals (if using) don’t take chunks out of your new walls and that’s about it. Then leave half your boxes somewhere unopened for 10 years before throwing them out. | |

| House move essentials on 20:34 - Aug 15 with 1395 views | RobTheMonk | We moved in April. Get a checklist of every single thing you can think of that needs sorting. Insurance, internet etc. Just get your favourite ai chatbot to create an in-depth list of things that need doing Set up a year long forwarding of any mail that you may have forgot to change the address on accounts for. Try not to stress if you don't get everything done in the timeline you've set out. Real life gets in the way and things can get pushed back. | | | |

| House move essentials on 11:06 - Aug 16 with 788 views | Freddies_Ears | When packing, mark the boxes with their destination room at the new place (especially if is configured differently). Worth packing 1 box with early essentials, such as mugs, glasses, plates, cutlery, towel, tea/ coffee. Advice elsewhere re sort bedroom early on us sound; waking up in a fully-unpacked room on day 1 makes for a good start Advice re cleaning before furniture arrives is also sound. A couple of times I actually moved in 1 day late, so I could clean, and was glad I'd done so. | | | |

| House move essentials on 11:32 - Aug 16 with 741 views | _CliveBaker_ | Congrats & good luck with the move young man. My advice is don’t stress, especially with kids I tried to make it an exciting thing they’ll remember for the right reasons rather than it feeling like an ordeal. Our youngest in particular likes his routine, so it was a big change for him and making his room feel as much like his old one was a priority. Use a sharpie to write on the boxes what’s inside or just where they need to go eg kitchen or bedroom. Designate a few boxes to non essentials, they went straight in the garage and worked through those at our leisure over following weeks. Oh and Royal Mail forwarding was helpful. Just did it for 6 months to buy enough time to sort important addresses etc. Good luck | | | |

| House move essentials on 12:26 - Aug 16 with 633 views | Basuco | A furniture dolly is brilliant for moving things around a house, if you are doing it yourself that is, but I have used mine quite a bit long after moving. If fact I used it this morning to move a wardrobe, which reminded me of it. https://cpc.farnell.com/durato | | | |

If you get the deluxe model it will recite poetry to relax you every time you take a chunk out of a wall.
| House move essentials on 17:48 - Aug 16 with 429 views | BlueBlueBluex2 | You would have all this in place already no? Bought my first house when I was 18 some 30 odd years ago and have bought and sole half a dozen times or more since. My advice is get as much help as you can and get all the helpers a Chinese and it will be over in no time. That or get a removal company in and come cleaners and go stay in a hotel near to you new place. | | | |
