Perhaps why we're "closing in" without known rival bids from established PL clubs is to do with his league minutes - 1100' in 25/26, 1150' in 24/25, 1850' in 23/34, 1650' in 22/23, 1100' in 21/22. I don't know the role that squad competition's played in keeping his playing time lower or if it's been more to do with injuries. Only 34 games in the Bundesliga, so Leverkusen's most-used midfielder last season received 2650', most-used DM 2550'.

Since the start of the prem they've finished in the top 4 multiple times, they've reached the FA cup final a couple of times, they've won the carabao cup
Played champions league football and slapped Barcelona
Regularly get attendances in excess of 50,000
Please tell what makes you think they are a nothing club and without disrespecting our own club what that makes us if they are a nothing club

I've got a strange feeling that this will be one too many. Dont know why, but just think he's not the type of person we need at our club.
I've been mulling this over to be honest. My initial thinking a few weeks ago would have been similar. There is another school of thinking though. Palacios, as might be the case with many of the Argentinians, is the type of player you want to have in your team and not playing against.
That's the potential flip side for me - he's a winner and, absolutely, has a bit of a streak in him - that won't actually do us any harm and should be a significant positive.

I think the Latin flair and fire will help us in more ways than one this season.
As has been said, he comes for a year and we take it from there really. Luckily we have a serious recruitment department now that will already start searching for his replacement.

Doesn't particularly want to come here you'd assume but once here he will most likely do a really good job for us.
He's the one pushing for it so it seems he very much does. He's literally trying to force it through. Like every other player in the world if PSG or Barcelona want him he'd go there of course.

He's a winner. End of. He's won World Cups and German titles. Anyone that thinks that mentality doesn't belong in our dressing room needs to start thinking as big as our ownership group.

Newcastle have not won a League, FA Cup or European trophy more recently than us, as I like to remind my Geordie mate.

This is all too much for my brain to compute.
If we end the window with Embolo and Palacios, with some decent left-sided defensive cover on loan, I'd say that's at least a 9/10 transfer window.
You look at the potential starting XI and compare it with the one that faced Liverpool 2 years ago... Wow, fair f00ks Ashton and Mick Court.
Left side defensive cover is done. We have Ouattara who played at LB end of last season. He's basically a quick and athletic upgrade for Johnson who can play CM and both full back slots and takes up no squad places.

Ah yes I will be most upset if we qualify for the Champions League a couple of times and win a trophy whilst regularly finishing in the top half/mid table.

FWIW, I still think this happens, we can consider as many options as we like, we are going to struggle to find another midfielder that fits his profile or ceiling.
We'll get him on loan ahead of deadline day, probably with a commitment if we stay up.
Just didn't see this happening at all, what a statement signing this would be, let's hope there is truth in all the rumours. If he stays fit it's massive.
