Really surprised seeing the negativity towards this link.
I personally would love to see Delap back in a town shirt (I would expect him to get a better move tbh) It was only a year ago that the general consensus was he would be Harry Kane’s successor for the next decade. Delap never started more than two games in a row for Chelsea.

He clearly excels in a transitional system which I expect us to be. Also regarding the selfish claims - only Leif (43) and Omari (22) created more chances than Delap (20)

Como (in the champions league) were trying to sign Delap and they use Jamestown Analytics who are the best in the business when it comes to recruitment.

It would be hard to turn your nose up at Liam Delap don’t get be wrong but it would feel a bit odd at the same time, especially if it’s a permanent. He’d be on the same kind of money at Chelsea that we are talking about with Palacios as well.

Assuming we weren’t able to put in any sort of sell on clause when we sold him to chelsea? I guess he’d be cheaper if we did.

I asked about Delap last week and wasn't given any encouragement on the prospect. Would be a bit embarrassing to sign him for c£10m more than we sold him for a year on after a season when he's not pulled up any trees. Story looks very speculative - "thought to be among a number of clubs considering".

We’d get some profit on that with the sell on clause

Any more on the Embolo link Phil? I think I’d prefer him to Liam to be honest…

Obviously I appreciate that you may not be able to answer that question though!

Did anyone actually think he'd be the next england striker for the following decade?!

Let alone the "general consensus"?!

Exactly right. Delap would be a fantastic addition and id.love to see us get it done. £40m too much of a risk. £30m get it done. Especially as I assume with we have some sell on to reduce it further.

Despite the fact we sold him on the cheap? Even considering the season he had, I still £30 was good value.

I don't think too many thought that, but he was widely tipped to get a call up whilst he was here in the march friendlies and was training with the full squad at one point

Had he continued his trajectory it's hardly unreasonable to think he could have gone on to get as many caps as someone like Watkins or Toney for example e.g 10-20 caps

I'm glad none of the people on this thread have any say into our transfers.

Delap would be a great signing for us.

"only Leif (43) and Omari (22) created more chances than Delap (20)" - yet only two assists. On assists per minute that season, he was behind Enciso, J Clarke, Townsend, Hirst, Johnson, Burgess, Chaplin, Burns, and Davis: https://fbref.com/en/squads/b7

Delap's schtick of trying to turn and dribble down the middle towards goal was found out that season. Second half of the season, he was our possession end-point. He's continued that trend at Chelsea. Very little in the way of a football brain. Poor in the air for a big guy. He'll never be Harry Kane, that's for sure.

Bit strange. You can't really knock a guy if he doesn't want to move abroad away from family and/or wants to stay playing in the best league in the world.
[Post edited 20 Aug 12:58]

Until a year ago he was in a flatshare with Ciaran Slicker...

And the best league in the world is the Champions league.

I think there's something really odd about not wanting to go and experience something new and almost certainly better.

Reminds me a touch of Leighton Baines saying he didn't like travelling with England as he got home sick after 3 days...

Everyone is different. It doesn't mean there is 'something not quite right' with him.
