However, iβd have respected him just as much if heβd just kept quiet on the issue. People are entitled to keep their opinions to themselves. |
Exactly! Never complain, never explain. It sets really weird precedent, although we've known that for some time. You can only have political opinions publicly if they are the 'correct' ones.

It is absolutely crazy that a powerful platform like X is entirely controlled by one person. We might not be able to do anything about that but we should, along with Europe and Canada, impose strict controls.

Well does that also mean that if I don't go into the office every morning with a shout of 'free Palestine' I am a genocide supporter, and my earnings are blood-soaked too? Because that's the logic being applied here to poor Ed. Edit - Also, Sultana is a Jew hating, terrorist simping, ghoul. [Post edited 20 Sep 20:37]

Gosh, this is a tedious debate. The guy has tried to stay apolitical and the media, both professional and social, have tried to railroad him into an opinion. Yeah, he's bloody rich, but he's just a bloke, trying to play music and do what he enjoys, in front of people who like his art. Why does it have to be so complicated? Why does he have to pick a side? Maybe he doesn't even have a side, because maybe, just maybe he sees everyone as a human being, and just cares that human lives are being lost on both sides. The blood lust for people to pick sides on the internet is just ridiculous!

Veery well said. I'm guessing that one of the reasons he wants to stay out of politics publicly is precisely because he doesn't want to get caught up in social media sh1tstorms, where he'd be damned by some raging people whatever he said/didn't say.

I actually think him waiting a few days before responding was extremely wise. Why should he be forced into a knee-jerk decision on what is clearly a very complex situation? The internet bays for an immediate response, but who ever made a good comment or explained themselves effectively by reacting immediately? Time, thought and good judgement are basically extinct these days. We would all do well to pause and take a breath before reacting, in any situation. Well done Ed, for not breaking under the pressure, I say. [Post edited 20 Sep 21:05]

| Ed Sheeran π on 21:09 - Sep 20 with 1025 views | SWLondonBlue93 | The person who should really be taking stick for this is Robert Kraft, but he's been able to sit in the background while Sheeran deals with the fallout. Ed might reflect that he could have dealt with it differently initially, but I think it's clear he has genuinely been hurt by this. | | | |
| Ed Sheeran π on 21:33 - Sep 20 with 990 views | MVBlue | He could have just kept it to the first 2 minutes but felt he needed to say the pain felt by both sides and attacks was not justified. So everyone attacks about that last minute. And he's a bloody human and gets upset when saying he wants people to join together and be safe away from opinions, not in Debate or fear. He's rightnto question the attack on free speech also. | |

Just to point out that you don't stay out of it by hiring a support act for cred points and then singing Kraft's tune when the going gets tough. Sheeran ballsed up plain and simple and made poor choices when it all came on top. He should have cancelled, refunded and defended freedom of expression. He more than likely realises this now. This view is not filtered through my sympathy for murdered, innocent Gazan civilians, just a belief in basic humanity.

I would agree that Sheeran's PR team etc have had a mare here. I haven't been following what all the different factions have said nor Ed's public statement. So feel free to educate me.... However, this is/was a music/artist tour. I'm not a fan of Ed's music but whatever. As soon as Macklemore got called out and cancelled effectively by the Elite in the US and then media in general... Ed could have just taken the artistic side and said no, if Kraft est al will not allow freedom of speech, I will not play those venues. As that didn't happen, the majority of the support acts cancelled the bad publicity escalated leading to Ed having to do what he did. Should have just cancelled the tour, (claimed off Kraft's etc insurance for the cancelled gig), that would have allowed him an out without entering into political discourse and feeding the social media monster now eveloping him.

He absolutely should not have cancelled the tour. He was right to crack on with it.. If support acts want to pull out, replace them. If people don't want to go, don't go. Cancelling the whole thing just reinforces the idea that if enough people shout loudly enough on social media, everyone else has to fall into line. It's a music tour. Not a political rally. Just play bloody music.

If you think cancelling the tour would have allowed him an out without entering into political discourse and feeding the social media monster then you're very naive.
