Wow, kids really must be so much cleverer these days.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

My money was on Fishers, but the OP isn't entirely a surprise, here.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

They’ve had a challenging time through Covid, and I know that they actually in the main quite a stringent set of exams set at schools

Give them a break

It's going to be interesting what happens next year, when hopefully Covid is not affecting exams to the same degree.

Calls for standardisation to be reset to 2020 exam grades is never going to happen though, as is being asked for by a few prominent commentators

Mrs G is fairly senior in an Exam board and they are already planning/expecting to be told to go back to 2019 as the baseline, effectively writing off the last two years as a data blip

Maybe it indicates that judging someone’s abilities is better done by taking several things into account rather than how they perform over ninety minutes in a pressurised environment.

Kids have had a horrendous eighteen months so good luck to them all.

in the end part of the function of exams (only part) is to assess relative performance. a levels this year are not doing that effectively at the upper end. if it's a one off, then that's fine for all sorts of reasons, but going forward we need marks at the higher end which provide finer differentiation.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Don't worry Johnson is lining Saffron Walden's finest, Kami Badenough, to replace Williamson. Not sure if education has recovered from Gove's tenure - but Badenough is a cast iron certaainty to be utterly inept - so you can relxx in the knowledge that education in this country is utterly shafted too

I would say, from direct experience, that moving to online learning has forced students to engage with their learning and be more independent, rather than spoon fed by teachers. Many have reaped the rewards of this, some others have sunk without trace but there is an argument that this is actually a better reflection of capability.

Certainly for those that have succeeded, the experience will stand them in good stead moving forwards.

So basically you are saying we should judge the players based on their performances last season?
