Humphreys performance against port vale 16:35 - Oct 27 with 3584 views | hunty21 | He was great going forward and passing wise however he needs to bulk up which hopefully will overtime against bigger opposition he might struggle defensively and looked missing till the goal in the 1st half hopefully he sees more of the ball
Humphreys performance against port vale on 17:01 - Oct 27 with 2990 views | Metal_Hacker | Do you mind if I ask how your professional debut went at 18 , scoring your first ever league goal and having a hand in another ,whilst finding your feet playing against men as opposed to the U21's , on a huge pitch against seasoned professionals with a shed load of strength on tap ? I personally thought he did very well before and after the goal, the assist and the ton of other stuff he put into his appearance As for his size - he's 18 and still developing Apart than that I thought he was crap

Humphreys performance against port vale on 17:07 - Oct 27 with 2960 views | Mullet | Yeah, the thing which held back Xavi, Garrincha, Baresi , Messi, Cordoba, Maradonna etc was being small and for most of their career, lithe. If I was to be really critical, the thing that was most apparent was trying to do too much with his passes early on in the game, but it worked out ok.

Not forgetting the crude " welcome to Pro football son" assault in the opening seconds of the game which few seem to acknowledge might have worked for a few minutes.... did really well to mentally overcome that in my opinion
Humphreys performance against port vale on 18:35 - Oct 27 with 2772 views | Freddies_Ears | Must have been someone else who sprinted out to the left wing to close down a breakaway late on, ending with a perfectly-timed tackle strong enough to have had Mick Mac purring...

Not sure, but the last time I saw him he looked a bit gaunt, hmmm probably explains why he was good in attack and managed to get on the front foot and quickly got the Christians in the game, but then was muscled out by Muhammad, and let the Muslims get a foothold.
Humphreys performance against port vale on 18:52 - Oct 27 with 2720 views | Swansea_Blue | I wouldn’t have singled it out, but yes he was outmuscled a few times. But he was also tenacious and not afraid to get stuck in. It’ll come and he’ll be fine. Looks to have a great future ahead of him.

Humphreys performance against port vale on 20:00 - Oct 27 with 2590 views | Kropotkin123 | I agree he needs to bulk up with time. But struggling defensively and going missing is absolute nonsense. Tackles against Port Vale Cameron Humphreys: 8! Janoi Donacien: 3 Wes Burns: 3 Leif Davis: 2 Dominic Ball: 2 For context, from memory, that is the most amount of successful tackles I've seen in a single game from a player all season. In terms of going missing, he made the second-most passes in the game.

Yep MOTM for me, although only sentiment because Leif would be a close call too. Those 2 were superb. If it weren't for 'youth making his debut' then Leif would be my MOTM.

Agree. Leif is a very good player. Will play in premier league again. No doubt. Hopefully with us.

From Fotmob he attempted 8 tackles one of which was successful. He had an amazing debut but even McK.talked about him needing to develop the physical side of his game (while recognising he has already made progress in this area)

Humphreys performance against port vale on 23:44 - Oct 27 with 2269 views | Deano69 | He got absolutely clatter by their number 10 in the first few seconds, didn’t lose possession, got up and shook himself down and got on with it. Absolutely no problem with his physicality, I would prefer him agile and hard to catch than a bollard. Absolutely ridiculous to offer criticism like that with such a terrific performance.

That had me off my seat. I got more excited by that than the goal. He's a very good technical tackler. Don't need strength if you time your tackles that well.

You only had to watch the game to know that that is incorrect. I also said I agree that he needs to bulk up, so I'm glad McKenna agrees with me. [Post edited 28 Oct 2022 3:50]

Dyer and Ambrose were the last two of this age that I saw hit the by line and cut the ball back this early in their career. They went on to create a number of goals that way.

Humphreys performance against port vale on 07:14 - Oct 28 with 1995 views | BigCommon | He'll definitely bulk up, naturally over time.. He is only 18, and for his age I wouldn't say he was light weight... But I totally get your point.. Reading through the thread, people making comparisons to other slightly built players. Not sure many of those played in EFL Lg1. Where the game can be a lot more physical and protection from refs is inconsistent to say the least. We saw in recent seasons how our midfield has gotten bullied in games... I guess what you are trying to say , is, that he'll be even better once he's bulked out a bit? Looking back to Matt Holland. He wasn't the biggest player on the pitch. But he'd make a lot of fans favorite teams. And he dominated midfields. Probably comes two fold with time/experience. Not just the bulking up, but learning how to ride a tackle better and position yourself so as not to get clattered.. We'll probably get to see a bit more of Humphreys during Evan's recovery. I'm sure he won't disappoint .. Aside from the obvious goal and assist, what impressed me most the other night was his heart and his engine. Two of Holland's traits, right there. Can't help comparing the two...
Humphreys performance against port vale on 09:09 - Oct 28 with 1822 views | Darth_Koont | I wouldn’t tell Pirlo, Xavi, Kante or Bannan to bulk up and all of them play or played in central midfield. Physically he already has real attributes like his stamina and movement that match his will and determination. For example, when he got way ahead of the strikers and crossed for the third or came across to the touchline to slide in and stop a Vale counter in its tracks. He’ll get stronger anyway as he keeps playing and developing, but I don’t think he has a playing style that requires him to bulk up or risk slowing him down around the pitch. Humphreys is tough enough to take the punishment (Conlon’s early markers against him were pretty quickly shrugged off) and to compete with his opponents, so we should focus on developing his own game and strengths: very good on and off the ball, perfectly suited to playing out from the back, a willing runner, a composed attacker and potential assist machine, snappy and committed in the tackle, and all with the regular flashes of quality that win games. Even with more power, raw pace or even height etc. I don’t think that focus would or should change much.
