What sport would you like to get into (as a follower or supporter) but just can't!

Rugby union. It’s a bit popular over this way. My father in law used to play, and tbh pretty much everyone I meet used to play or knows someone who did. I’ve been to see two physios who physio-ed for the Welsh team and Ospreys. The strength coach our kids see is ex-Ospreys player/current coach. I have no idea what to say to any of them. None of it makes sense to me.

NFL. Bores me to tears. A sport almost designed to sell hotdogs and adverts. Can play ok as a highlights package but I just want my sports free flowing. Have been to seen live and they go all out as a spectacle but when the spectacle is a stop start affair it's not for me.

American sports are guff. I used to live in New York and I’d get dragged to watch the Yankees play baseball, which is absolutely dire. NFL is marginally more watchable but still crap, and basketball is pony as well.

This side of the pond I would have to say F1. Does nothing for me at all.

Shinty. My best chance of seeing live sport on the touchlines locally but instead I have done two hundred and thirty mile round trips to watch Inverness Cally Thistle or Clachnacuddin, a couple of hundred to watch Ross County.

Same here. I love NFL, but just can't get into rugby. Not really sure why.

A very uneducated view of the sport (no offense).

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Aussie Rules Football. I went to a live game 15 years ago. Utterly baffling, but I'm sure if I understood what the hell was going on, I'd really quite like it. Requires extreme athleticism.

Basketball

A former girlfriend was mad keen on it and we watched (on tv) pretty much every Eurobasket (or whatever the basketball equivalent of the Champions League is) game that her team played in (and went to watch one game live). The main thing I didn't get was when you're meant to cheer, as there's a score every few seconds. There just didn't really seem to be any excitement in it unless it was a very close game in the last few seconds.

Aussie Rules initially looks confusing but I spent quite a lot of time watching it in a sports bar when I was in Australia for the last Women's World Cup and really got into it by the end. Sadly I didn't manage to get to a game in person, but it's on my to-do list for my next visit.

You know, at club level it's pretty boring and mundane, but at the international level it is a fantastic sport to watch.

We moved down under 12 years ago. Went to a few Aussie Rules games and genuinely had no idea what was going on other than the basics. There’s 2-3 quite unique rules related to tackling that made it seem like the umpires were just blowing for free kicks randomly. But after watching a few YouTube clips on the rules and then a few games on TV it all started to make sense. Now going into my eighth season as a season ticket holder with Fremantle and I’m buzzing that the season start is just a few weeks away.

As you say, it requires supreme athleticism. Last season Kulusevski from Spurs ran the furthest average distance per game at 7.7m/12.3km per game. In Aussie Rules at least 10 players per team will run further than that per game, as well as being rugby tackled 12-14 times, having to accurately kick and catch a large oval ball multiple times. What they do is incredible

I hate to say it but football seems quite mundane in comparison.

But back on subject - Rugby Union - most boring sport in the world.

I’ve generally found that if you watch or participate in a sport with someone who can clearly explain the skill required or the nuances of the game it becomes enjoyable. Most people who enjoy one sport will enjoy all sports if they understand them and know what to look for.

As an example I used to dislike baseball but mainly because I didn’t understand it. Was lucky enough to see Yankee’s against Red Sox last year at Yankees stadium with a couple of locals who could clearly articulate what and why was happening. Transformed my view of Baseball and thoroughly enjoy it now.

Had a similar experience with F1, spent a fair bit of time with the McLaren team last season due to some work commitments, again having a number of the aspects and nuances better explained to me my appreciation and understanding of what it takes has changed my view of F1.

I will say that all sports has boring aspects to it, you see some dire 0-0 draws in football, some dull F1 races etc, but generally failure to understand a sport leads to failure to enjoy, and therefore vice versa often applies.

Except it’s not...once you understand ice hockey you realise that of course it’s fast and it’s tough, but it’s also one of the most skilful sports on the planet. I also love baseball, but not basketball or NFL.

I have never managed to get into F1 or horse racing, but I guess some sports just click or don’t click and if you get to understand the rules, personalities and intricacies then you get hooked.

Another vote for rugby.

I’ll watch it in small doses on tv and there’ll be another whistle for some random reason. It’s like Keith Stroud on steroids, but at least the tv cameras can zoom in on the action so you can see the ball.

I’ve been to St Jo’s Rugby Festival once and when the ball is buried under a pile of players, it’s impossible to follow and just looks like a load of people rolling around on the floor.
