Anyone on a new year health kick? 12:39 - Jan 8 with 2158 views | clive_baker | A few weeks in December (and probably well before then in reality) of eating terribly and drinking every night definitely took its toll. Bit of a Jan detox for me and already feeling slightly better for it, and lost a bit of timber albeit it'll mostly be water loss. Wouldn't say I'm in bad shape but definitely been slack lately. It's hard WFH to be active, I used to do 5k steps on a bad day without trying just on the tube, walking to my office, stroll at lunch etc. Anyone else on a bit of a detox?

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 12:45 - Jan 8 with 1225 views | itfcjoe | Have got better just because was so bad over XMas, and started running again every other day. Making slow progress but doing Couch to 5K again so I don't rush it. Week 2 done....

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 12:46 - Jan 8 with 1219 views | Kieran_Knows | Yes. Having been at my lowest weight for some time at the back end of last year, I proceeded to eat and drink like an absolute tw@t from 23rd December - 3rd January. Could definetely tell I have put on some weight, but have been back on my diet this week, and a couple of 5km runs and feel so much better for it. I'll be back on the scales tomorrow morning to see how I've done!

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 12:46 - Jan 8 with 1205 views | WD19 | Yep. Have been over-eating for the past 6-9 months, so trying to be sensible on inputs and exercise more. Aiming to shed the c.5kg I have accumulated. Have done x3 10km runs this week and tried to do the exercise bike for an hour or so on those days I don't run. Should hopefully get myself straight in about 4-6 weeks. [Post edited 8 Jan 2021 12:53]

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 12:48 - Jan 8 with 1214 views | StokieBlue | Not specifically. Given we can do very little I shall not be robbing myself of a beer or glass of wine in the evening or some good quality food even if it's stacked with butter. Obviously all in moderation of course. I applaud those able to do that at this juncture though. I will start cycling again soon as I miss my daily commute (22km overall) but it's just too cold in the morning and too dark in the evenings at the moment. I went for a cycle the other day and thought I was going to lose my fingers to frostbite. SB

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 12:56 - Jan 8 with 1193 views | Vaughan8 | Agree WFH along with the gym's being closed now have certaining affected my exercise regime over the past few weeks. However, I've done 2 4km runs this week so i'm slowing getting some sort of exercise haha

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 13:02 - Jan 8 with 1168 views | Metal_Hacker | Nothing specific but once it starts to get slightly warmer like Stokie suggested I'll be back out on the bike every other day for a bit of cardio - Winter Mountain Bike & Summer Road Bike I carried on through last year during the winter doing perhaps 10-15 miles every other day just as a form of exercise and more obviously on the road bike during the Summer but this winter I have to admit , I've been pretty lazy cause of the cold (must be an age thing)

I'm with you on that. I love getting out on the bike but I think my last ride was November. Got a very reasonable target between now and the end of Feb, which should be perfectly achievable through diet and upping the walking / running. Come March I'll up the ante with exercise ahead of what hopefully will be a Spring / Summer of more freedoms.

Love it on the bike. With having quite a stressy job it'a great to get away from the Mrs for a couple of hours (she didn't hear that ) , away from the phone and laptop and cycle up over into The Peak District.Bloody amazing in the Summer...apart from those climbs !

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 13:44 - Jan 8 with 1083 views | Dubtractor | I actually came out of December/Christmas better than usual this year - largely due to not binging on chocolates and cakes at work for the whole of December! That isn't to say a few pounds haven't been added though...... I've made a real effort to keep myself in shape since last March too as I quickly realised it was a slippery slope if I didn't. Like you, WFH takes loads of exercise out my routine, no walk to work and back, much less fresh air, weekly 7 a side football also out of the window. I've made sure I do a couple of longish (20k) bike rides a week, and get out for a walk whenever possible. Loads of places near Ipswich for nice walks so that bit is easy. So no health kick as such, just a continuation of looking after myself (whilst still eating/drinking a bit obviously).

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 13:47 - Jan 8 with 1076 views | GlasgowBlue | I am. I tend to have two massive blowouts a year. On my main holiday and over the festive period, which is pretty much non stop drinking and eating from December 1st to my wife's birthday on January 3rd. Managed to put on nearly two stone in six weeks. As I type this I have just finished a 10k run on my treadmill. I've been on the treadmill, exercise bike and cross trainer every day since the 4th. No booze and cut out the sweets and deserts. Already lost 10lbs since Monday, a lot of which will be water, and I'm looking to stay dry until I get down to my target weight which should be March 1st. Then I'll do it all over again this year. Eat, drink, rave repeat.

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 13:49 - Jan 8 with 1062 views | monytowbray | i'm back on the wagon now after a bit of a fat Xmas. Got some new dumbbells, on 10kg ones now, which is good as I'm doing the same reps as I could manage with 7kg ones 5 months ago. I also had to go into Sports Direct to get them much to my dismay as no where online had any good prices. Whilst buying them the woman at the counter put them in a plastic bag on the counter, which I picked up, the bag broke and the weights smashed the glass counter and went through to land on a load of expensive sunglasses. I don't think the staff enjoyed me and my partner bursting in hysterics over it. Go in Mike Ashley's store, spend £55 and leave after doing around £500 of corporate property damage. Opps, oh well.

Yeah, I saw you were doing a few decent bike rides on FB. I'm glad that I invested in putting in a home gym at the start of the last lock down. My Mrs said it would never get used but both of my twin daughters lost 5 and 4 stones respectively by doing an hour a day in there.

Dumbell thrusters. Do 21 thrusters and 21 pull ups, 15-15, 9-9. I love thrusters. Either with dumbbells, barbell, or kettlebells.

I got one of these for under my desk whilst working at home https://www.sports-tech.uk.com/deskfit-dfx100?utm_source=google_shopping&gcl You can burn 300 -400 calories an hour. I’m finding it difficult to excercise properly with 2 young children and not getting time for a lunch break most days.

That's a great effort from your girls - sounds like you now need to follow suit! I think with any exercise it is about habit/routine. I sometimes struggle to motivate myself to do stuff, especially at this time of year when it is bloody chilly, but the more you do it the easier it gets and you start to really enjoy it, especially when you start seeing results.

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 14:14 - Jan 8 with 1014 views | Radlett_blue | I prefer to try to be sensible & keep consumption of calories & alcohol to something sustainable e.g. if I fancy a beer, have a low or alcohol free one. However, I did abstain from alcohol for the first 5 days of January.

I can struggle to get motivated but like you once I'm in the zone I'm loving it. Back when the shops were open I would buy a shirt or a top that was a size to small for me, hang it up and take it out each week and try it on until it fitted. Like you said, it's motivating to see the results.

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 14:20 - Jan 8 with 1005 views | bluelagos | 8 days in so far and I've done 3 x 8 milers and one 7 miler (Walking) Would like to have done more but the cold and/or rain isn't conducive to a 2 1/2 hour walk. Given up on Strava as my phone seems to randomly stop tracking my on half of them. Spring and I'll decide whether to go for it on 2 wheels or up my hiking...

Do 21 thrusters? Is this a workout or a gangbang? My bare minimum evening routine RN is... Pushups - 35, 25, 30, 30 Sit ups - 50 Crunches - 50 Leglifts - 40 And then on top I'll usually do an assortment of lifts with the dumbbells. Do each exercise until it hurts, wait 2 minutes and do it again until it hurts.

I'm surprised to hear an eco warrior like yourself let them use a plastic bag! Good man for the weights & wagon though, it's nice when you can measurably see progress innit. Health body and all that, good luck with it. I've started boxing a bit again in my garage, feels very Rocky going in there when it's cold and dark out and smashing the bag about.

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 14:43 - Jan 8 with 982 views | Swansea_Blue | Lost a stone and a half over Christmas thanks to Covid if that counts. Wouldn't say I feel great after it though! Oh, and it means I've been off the beer for over a month now and will probably be for the rest of this month at least. That's got to be good.

Anyone on a new year health kick? on 14:43 - Jan 8 with 981 views | Fixed_It | My other half and I are going meat-free this month, and so far so good. Also back into my running after rest and physio for an ongoing knee injury. I tend to go fairly long periods without alcohol anyway so that side of things isn't an issue.
