Would you be happy with a draw today? 09:28 - Oct 30 with 2388 viewsVic

I’d love a win, but can’t yet bring myself to actually expect one! I would however be happy with a draw which keeps the distance between us the same. A loss would be disappointing and absolutely not help us, (obviously!) but wouldn’t necessarily be season defining.

Think I broadly agree with that.

A win would be a big statement in many ways, but I think it would be arrogant for us to expect one given the run they are on.

To clarify a little, I wouldn't take a draw if it was offered now, but wouldn't grumble if that was the outcome.

I'd not be disappointed with a draw but I can't say I'd be happy with one. I felt we needed 13 points from our 6 games in October to start establishing ourselves after our poor start, and a win today gets us to that and gives us over 2 points per game for the month. A draw would be fine given Plymouth's form at home, it would keep some positive momentum, but ideally we need the 3 points.

Depends. If it’s like the Cambridge game then that would be a massive disappointment, but if we snatch a late draw against a good side then that would be great.

I certainly wouldn’t take 1 point now as I still fancy our chances of taking all 3.

Every point dropped on this run against the top clubs is a problem. But until we play all 5 games it’s hard to know. Lose today but win the next 4 and we are still doing enough to turn the season around.

Win today but lose the next 4 and the season is basically over anyway. I think we probably need12 and at a minimum 10pts to give us a shot at automatic places. So it’s do or die time.

I'd take 4 points from the next 2 but if we take 3 today that's a big statement.

I agree and disagree! There is absolutely no point in winning today and losing the next 4 although I don’t personally think that’s likely. We are a good team now (IMO) and I can’t see us losing all those games. Like Joe said, the next 5 games will show us where we are!

But don’t agree that dropping points to them is a problem. If we draw against each of them it keeps them all exactly where they are now relative to us - if you see what I mean!

Today's game intrigues me.

Plymouth enjoy their 3 5 2. Yet we have seen this help us by leaving space in the areas we love to get into.
Will Plymouth change change shape... does that then ruin thei fluidity?

A win would certainly be a statement that we are mixing it with those at the top. If we lose I just hope it's not by a big scoreline. A draw.... depends how it's done. If we are ahead I would say a draw again is bad. If we are behind then it'll be a good point to get.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.

Yep, a draw is a decent result away at the league leaders who are unbeaten at home.

A win would be fantastic

Should be a bit of a slugfest between 2 confident sides who like to play attacking football. I can really see us winning but I’d probably take a draw now if it was guaranteed. Just want to keep the momentum going.

Can see us going a couple up and then getting pegged back for another Desmond.

I would take that, keeps us ticking along. Torn between outcomes today, anything seems possible on all sides but it’d be so great to make a bit of a statement and take three points there.

We have to win today to start applying pressure, this is a win or lose league, I know I know a points a point, but I think two/ three seasons ago Sunderland drew so many 12-15 at least, lost a handful all season, it cost them dearly drawing,

Yes I too would take a draw, they're bang in form and with a capacity crowd I expect them to fly into us from the start, remember we have this nasty habit of only playing decent in one half of a game, off the ball we need to be up for it today..

I would expect us to win. I may be being unfair to them, but I can't shake the feeling that Plymouth are in a false position. They finished 18th last season and though they've obviously been very consistent this season and have had a few stand-out results - 3-0 v Sheffield Wednesday and 3-1 at Oxford, for example - they've also drawn at home against Cambridge, Fleetwood and Crewe

Mick Mills made a great point when we went back to the top of the league in January 2020 by beating Lincoln.

We had a three game run coming up where we played Sunderland, Peterborough and Rotherham.

Mick Mills said that although he'd want us to win the games he would be quite happy for us to get only 3 points from those 3 games by drawing them all as it would also mean that the our rivals would not pull away from us. As it was we lost all three and they did pull away from us.

So as much as I'd love a win, a draw would keep us in touching distance of Plymouth. Whereas a defeat would see us 13 points off top spot.

I would prefer us to draw both than win one and lose one against Plymouth and Wycombe.

I know that sounds weird as we'd have a point less but it would stop either of those teams gaining another 2 point advantage over us.

Not happy, only content that the points gap hasn't widened. Given the head start we've given these teams and the quality of our squad we need to be looking to win every game despite knowing that it won't always happen.

This is TWTD Viccers.

Anything less than a resounding victory, and Cook out.

Any kind of victory no matter how grueling, I told you so Cook is the messiah.

A draw would be alright in truth :) I'm not feeling especially positive, dunno why. Maybe just the weather.

Indeed.

Hypothetically, if we lost to Plymouth and Wycombe we could potentially be 16 points behind them both. Lose one and we're 13 points behind. We aren't clawing that back even if we signed Ronaldo.

These 2 games are massive. Obviously we want to win them, but we seriously can't afford to lose either at any cost.

I don’t think that adds up.

3 points will almost certainly be better than 2 at the end of the season. Are we giving points to a rival? Yes, but with say 10 rivals then it’s better to gain a point on 9 of them and lose 3 to one of them.

And we’ve actually gained 3 points on one of those rivals by winning one of the games. Just as likely that win makes a difference in our favour.

Either way, getting to the end of the season with an extra point is the real value.

Yeah you're completely right. 100%.

I've just become completely obsessed about this 10 point gap not getting bigger.

Rather depends on how Plymouth and Wycombe do for the rest of the season and how they cope with setbacks they haven’t had yet. With two-thirds of the season to go there’s still plenty of time.

But I’d agree that we generally need to be getting points from these sort of games and it’s up to us to give them the setbacks. The runaway sides are the target in points but also in the games themselves.

It’s an 8-hour round trip, I want a all 3. Happy to stick to the 1pt away, 3pts at home rule of thumb though. I think we’ll pick up 4pts from the next two with a win today and draw toosdee.
