Surprised Spurs dont play him and see if he can improve. That's what they did with Kane, not great performance when he went out on loan and when he first started for spurs but they stuck with him and...

Clear that McKenna rates him, just a matter of whether he's up to this level yet I guess? Clearly got the athleticism we look for in a forward, which is a good starting point.

I thought he was doing well until they changed manager and got rid of Cowley? I also though that Pompey fans were quite keen up until that point?

If KMK likes him and thinks he can be what we need then I'm not going to argue, look what he's done with one or two others.

Like most on here I'm no expert on other clubs players.
If McKenna wants him OK goalscoring record Not the best but still young.

We tried to sign him in January, so would be little shock if we did make a move for him.

Presume it would only be a loan deal?

Loan wouldn't be ideal. U21 players on loan count toward the 25.
If signed on a perm, we'd still have that space available.

I figure around £2.5m+ though.

Would say there's zero chance Spurs sell him, and certainly not for a price that low (or indeed any we'd be willing/can afford to pay).

At this point seems likely if we want additions in attacking positions they're going to have to be loans from Prem clubs making late decisions to send their young talent out.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Tend to agree Spurs won’t let him go on a permanent, and given he didn’t exactly rip it up at Pompey I’d be surprised if we’d target him as a loan.

Not so sure though we’ll be limited to loans as a lot can still happen in the permanent market between now and Sept 1. Suspect there’s plenty of brinkmanship afoot.

There might be zero chance, but signing an u21 on loan is still completely pointless for us.
Pretty much as I said.

Offer them £2m with a £5-8m buy back clause valid for two seasons. If he does well enough for spurs to want him back for that amount, then we’ve effectively been paid a few million pounds to have their player on a long loan.

On what basis can we justify spending that on someone who didn't impress at league 1 level? I'd be really disappointed if we went after him at all to be honest. If Hirst is struggling for today it really highlights how short we are in that striker role. He need someone who has similar attributes who can come in as a like for like replacement imo. Scarlett doesn't fit this bill at all for me.

Are you really saying that you'd be disappointed if we signed Dane Scarlett for £2.5 million?!

Dane Scarlett who:
-Was 18 when he joined Pompey in a physical League 1
-Does not count towards a squad place
-Is an England U20 International
-Represented England at u15, u16, u19
-Scored more than 1 goal a game in the U18s Premier League
-Tipped as "going to be phenomenal" for England by Mourinho 2 years ago
-Our own manager called "one of the best young strikers in world football"

I've had a look for the Scarlett quote and it's in here:

Pride in his players was manager Kieran McKenna’s overriding feeling after his side’s 3-2 victory over Portsmouth at Portman Road. 22
