If we ignore the abject relegation and four years languishing in League 1, then it's all been peaches and cream over the last 7 years.

It really was the beginning of the end, Murphy gone, replaced by this chancer and Mick picking players that would specifically annoy the fans (or it certainly felt like it).. Gamechanger have certainly lived up to the name.

Or not picking those whom fans wanted. His meltdown after the Burton game and Celina's free-kick was hilarious. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It was more Murphy wasn't replaced. Best was already signing - or rather we'd offered him a contract he'd turned down - as back-up to Murphy before Newcastle came in. The failure to find a replacement for Murphy was the big failing.

Weren't we after Connor Washington as Murphy's replacement, but we ran a mile at the idea of paying £1.5m for him?

I was there. I don't know if it was shown on TV but he actually had the gall to laugh in disbelief as he saw his number being held up by the forth official as he was subbed off.

Some on here were convinced we knew what we were doing and had a replacement for Murphy lined up, as selling him with no replacement defied all logic. The rest of us knew there was no such planning in place.

I would make a case for him being the worst signing we have ever made though I'm sure those with longer memories may offer some other names. There in plenty of choice but due to his rare combination of being g utterly lazy and completely $h!t i think he's a strong candidate

Clubs were unable to agree a fee, think it was probably higher than that from reading this back. Washington Was Deadline Day Target 1st Sep 2016 12:43QPR’s Conor Washington was the striker the Blues were trying to sign on deadline day to replace Daryl Murphy, who departed for Newcastle United over the weekend. 38

To be fair, Town hadn't expected the interest so late in the window and weren't up for doing the deal until DM put in a transfer request. Nevertheless, it was still a big failing to be unable to bring anyone in before the window closed. Emergency loans were no longer available at that point, if I remember rightly.

I think people need to be careful dragging up the BCWYWF line. We haven’t enjoyed recent success because we wished MM gone. Slightly perversely I suppose it relegated us ultimately and pushed ME further to point of sale and made Ipswich a more investable opportunity perhaps. It was of course right for MM to go but I don’t think we can link his departure with our current success which is solely down to an injection of money and excellent club management.

I think we all know that we needed to go there to get where we have now. In fact it’s painstakingly obvious. We were languishing around 15th in the championship, the crowds were dwindling to below 10k and GC20 wouldn’t have bought us. Yes we had to invest 4 years of our lives in that sh!t league but we’ve all done that now. See also Everton.

Jeez we’ve had enough garbage to endure over the years, but do you know what? I can’t argue with you. The Bestmeister stole a living. Utterly dreadful and hard to believe he was only 30 when he ambled around for us.
