Disappointed with that, and I suspect that Vas will be too, I don't think that has played out the way that he expected.

Unlikely of course, but still a chance a deal gets agreed.

Not surprising as he would have signed one by now. Good luck to him.

I'm not massively surprised that is the way it has gone... would have been 34 in November, not our guaranteed no1, has little to no sell-on value, and probably wants a multi-year deal on high-end champ/low-end prem wages.

Hugely appreciative of everything he's done, was one of our most important players last season but I can see why Ashton/ KmC wouldn't compromise to make it work when in such a position of strength now.

I dont know what he was asking for that they couldn't agree on. Was it money or guarantees of being Number 1? Perhaps both.

Must be money, or maybe lengt of deal, I can't see Vas or his agent expecting him to be a guaranteed premier league number 1..

Potentially a decent signing on fee and a longer deal even if it's a lower level

He’s a free agent so will probably get a better and longer deal elsewhere as there’s no transfer fee.

As others have said, not particularly surprised by this outcome either.

Be stunned if it wasn't over contract length. Likely he will want a three year deal or similar so he can finish career here, on good money, maybe. Would imagine that we're not prepared to do that given he has no resale, and his age already etc.

Shame if it does end this way, of course.

It's a really tough one as he stepped in this time last year out of the cold and was such a key part in getting us promoted, made countless sublime saves and his ability and courage with his feet was so crucial in our tactical approach.

That said there's no room for sentiment. Is he a premier league keeper? I'm not so sure, and given his age we need to protect our interests. A 1 year deal is probably right for the club but I dare say not right for the player. It's his last and possibly first big pay day, he needs to cash his chips and if he can get 5 figures a week on a 3 year deal somewhere else then nobody can begrudge that.

All the best if he does move on, will be fondly remembered and I'm sure all town fans would wish him well.

Oh - hadn’t heard. What a shame after his great contribution last season.

Thanks and all the best to him, hope he finds a good deal somewhere.

Poll: Town's most cultured left foot ever?

Vas gone then on 09:51 - Jul 1 with 3627 viewsHighgateBlue

My personal takes are these:

- Vas was overall very successful last season, especially in the context of the way we play. It's hard to know how he'd manage the step up to Prem level, and his age is a factor; he may well have no real improvement left in him.

- We cannot know who offered what and when, and I really think it's very harsh to criticise any party (Vas, the Club or his agent) without knowing those details, unless you take the view that (a) he is so incredible that the Club should've pulled out all the stops, or that (b) playing for Town in the Prem is such an honour that he should've accepted any £ offer at all. I hold neither of those views.

- Kieran had to decide whether to back Vas as no.1, or to try to get an upgrade. This is a big call. It seems that Kieran has made that call. It seems unlikely that we would have failed to do a deal if Kieran wanted him as his clear no.1. So to me this seems like Kieran has other, preferred, irons in the fire. Fine by me - his recruitment record is very good.

- If Kieran gave Vas the vibes that he would not be no.1 keeper, then we absolutely should not be blaming Vas. How many times do the majority criticise players taking money over the chance to play meaningful football regularly? All the time. if he's chosen first team football, good luck to him.

- Of course, it may be that Vas' agent was trying to get more money, and thought the Club would bend, and then it didn't bend. From fans' point of view, that should be fine. You can't go quadrupling the club's record transfer fee, as we just have, without having a clear eye on the budget. Everything Ashton and the management team have done has indicated that (in the context of crazy football money at least) they are moderate and sensible and are not gonna risk the club's stability or break the bank. So having a clear valuation above which they will not go on wages is absolutely fine by me. IF it is the case that Vas has missed out by trying to get 20% or 30% more in wages, then he is a fool. But we really can't know that.

- Overall I'm relaxed about it, despite having enjoyed his contribution last year immensely. There was a time when Walton was the second coming, and then Vas was, and this coming season it seems we will have another candidate. Plenty more fish, especially when you're sitting on a pretty healthy budget. In Kieran we trust.

I wouldn't have thought 33 is particularly old for a keeper.

Shame. Getting a new shot-stopper shouldn't be a problem but we're going to do well to replace his ability with his feet in our system. I'd have thought keepers who are really good at both are going to be pretty pricey.

Yeah length of deal makes sense given his age. I imagine there was maybe only a year deal on the table.

If he is disappointed, he's only got himself to blame as the ball was in his and his agent's court. He must have something else lined up and not want to be part of this journey, otherwise none of this makes any sense.

Oh well, so long and thanks for all the fish and all that. Onwards and upwards.

Well his agent must be fairly confident he has interest / deal lined up somewhere that is more in keeping with what he wants.

I doubt he has turned down our deal blind and now just going to see what he can get, that would be madness.

Hs agent will have been working hard, expect he'll be annouced at another club pretty quickly.

Good luck to him, a bit of a shame after what happened last season but it is a position we can improve on and probably need to in all honesty and we have two other decent keepers already at the club.

All the best vaz, thanks for everything, it will be a season never forgotten!

It is sad because he was a very important part of the best season we've had in a generation, but ultimately he's not good enough to be our number one in the Premier League - presumably the terms he would have wanted had to have been with that in mind (big wage increase, contract length, playing time assurances etc.) and so whilst it is fairly ruthless, I think it is the right decision.

Rushworth or Kaminski and Walton is a very good goalkeeping core for me and becomes an upgrade on what we had.

Speaking emotionally, that's a real shame.

And with Slicker and Walton also possible departures, we might be looking for two keepers.
