'Person who has given birth' instead of 'mother' on 16:07 - Jun 4 by JammyDodgerrr
Maybe before shifting the terms, they should work towards given Fathers better Paternity leave. Two weeks is just not enough.
My company has equalised parental leave across Men and Women. Still got pelters because some of the policies mentioned the phrase 'maternity' and 'paternity' and were there 'not inclusive'.

That seems to be the idea. But, as Herb says, it's an LGBTQ pressure group pushing for something that's likely never going to happen - but it just gives the red tops something to get all po-faced over for a couple of days before everyone forgets it ever happened.
It's just more culture war nonsense. This has come out because of a freedom of information request from the Telegraph, they are actively looking for ammunition to fight the culture war that their Tory masters are so keen to perpetuate. It's tabloid crap from what was once, in the distant past, a publication considered part of the quality press.

A FoI request for that, really?! Jesus. They really are scraping the barrel now. Sad really because it did used to be a decent paper with some quality journalism. Nowadays, hmmm.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

You employ Boris Johnson for long enough and it drags down the quality and integrity of everything in his orbit.

Fair enough on the red tops / publicity thing. Just seems bizarre to pretend that a person wasn't a mother when she gave birth. Almost like rewriting a personal history.
Anyway, like others have said, not really my problem. Although 6 months ago I did discover that the person who was my neice is now my nephew, so I have a lot to learn.
Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

It's a tricky one for sure, but suppose I may be a bit ahead of the curve as my aunt started transitioning about 15 years back and I've been fortunate enough to talk to enough trans people about their experiences over the years. Obviously not everyone is exposed to that so it can seem like lunacy from the outside looking in.

That's a while back for sure - I guess you've had time to get used to things.
Its a steep curve. Its early days in my family's case, but so far, I've only misued the old name or pronuoun a couple of times, not out of malice - just pure habbit. Not helped that instead of calling him 'Lucy' before, we all called him 'Luce' - just trips off the tongue. Luckily he's forgiving and realises it'll take time.

I've worked with, socialised with, have as friends and had in my family many LGB. I can "empathise" with them and don't "understand" the hatred some people feel, in the same way as I don't "understand" anti-Semitism (or anti-Muslim, anti-christian, anti-atheist) sentiment.
I've worked with someone who transitioned for about nine months - she was brilliant at her job, and that's all that mattered in that circumstance. I couldn't empathise or "connect" with her at a personal level however. This didn't cause a problem, but it was an observation that I took away with me.
I do have a problem with LGB and T being together and fear that the T part is in danger of rolling back LGB rights as it seems to increasingly be people with a penis telling women (including LB) what to do. Let me in your same sex changing room, let me apply for a women only job, let me in your sport, let me cancel you JK Rowling style if you dare have another position. Fine, if you've transitioned that's great, I support you then (except in some sports) but this "pay £5 for a certificate" suggestion makes me really uneasy. I do a lot of safeguarding work and it really opens up avenues for nefarious activity, which will only damage the T cause further.

In what way does it impact you? It's telling that the right wing press seem to have jumped on it to try and whip up outrage when in reality it's a bit of a non-story isn't it? LGBTQ organisation suggests employers use LGBTQ-friendly language. Not really much to see here, is there?
This kind of story is like Pornhub for people who love getting hard and angry as opposed to hard and horny.

What is LGBTQ+ friendly about drawing attention to the lack of womb of trans women? It highlights the biological differences that still remain following reassignment surgery.
And what is LGBTQ+ unfriendly about the word mother?

Ask Stonewall, it's their fight. I think your first point misses the mark though, and the second one I'd imagine the issue is that it's a very gendered term.
