So, just had a call from a friend who's kid is in a local N Essex primary school. Small school with 1 class per year group.
Year 1s sent home to isolate, in a class of 31 kids, 7 positive cases in the last 2 days. |  |

Cheers Hoppy. Pretty gutted to be honest as we've not caught up for a while, and it was promising to be a good one. Still, it's definitely for the best. Having seen my wife come back from her shifts at the hospital over this crazy period, the seriousness of it has never been lost on me. I know from reading on here that your family has had it's own battles, I hope you're all well through that now and out the other side.
Got to look on the bright side, I've got the house to myself, some beers in the garage and will get myself a nice takeaway delivered instead to get over my FOMO.

I'm not quite sure how long the 'long covid' side of things is expected to last... she still gets tired quite easily and can sometimes be short of breath occasionally - whether that's a knock on, I guess it's difficult to know. Glad she's doing well.
I posted up a few days ago that they think they might know what is causing long covid which is a big step forward. Hopefully it will mean they can look for an effective treatment.

I was meant to be going out with friends to watch the game tonight, but someone I came into contact with on Saturday has since tested positive, and is feeling unwell. I've done 2 tests and both have come back negative, and I feel fine, but given it's only been a few days I'm not going tonight now. Shame, but best to be on the safe side. Certainly feels like the increase in cases is getting a bit silly now. |

Going to the pub just doesn't sit well with me for a number of reasons, a mate went to The Golf last Saturday and said it took 45 minutes to get a drink due to the table service, and his view was obscured, he said he got offered a seat for tonight but turned it down to stay at home instead.
Last time I went to the pub for footy was in 1998 when Beckham got sent off and the Black Tiles looked like Damascus 25 minutes after the final whistle.

I'd have gone to the Eng v Pakistan T20 on 18th July at Headingley, but decided it's just not safe. It's a govt. "Events Research Programme" event, with 100% capacity allowed but dependent on a NHS "Covid Pass" for entry. |  |

My lad has had to self isolate for 10 days, as a pupil in one of his classes has tested positive; and yet they've only asked a third of the class (those closest to the individual) to self isolate. My son on the border of this, so in fact the person sitting next to him has not been asked. All a bit crazy!
But then I speak to a 38 year old client, she's been bed ridden with Covid for 3 weeks, complete state, and had already had one jab. Delta variant of Covid. Her GP saying she is one of those younger people susceptible to serious and long Covid, and without the jab could have expected to have been admitted to hospital.
In short Covid is not like a common winter flu - like the anti-vaccine/lockdown d!cks continue to promote and Javid has almost agreed with!!! - its a b@stard we still don't fully understand and may mutate again.
And the handling of it is a HUGE challenge, and we have the worst cabinet in our lifetimes.

If public officials make wrong decisions that leads to many avoidable deaths why shouldn't they be accountable? Power without accountability - doesn't sound a great combination to me.
