For those who support the Tories it ticked every box, had some well-timed jabs at Labour, and was funny in several places. He really is a good speaker if nothing else.
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Sadly the Nation has got exactly what is deserved...we voted this fool in, twice!
once surely? it was may in 2017.
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

#BuildBackBeaver
Who doesn't like a nice beaver, but I don't think he can claim any responsibility given that the reintroductions were started by various Wildlife Trusts in the 2000s, the first being in Scotland as well.
boris has two strengths. one is that he is a shameless chancer - for example responding to the current crisis by rebranding the tories as the party of high wages. the other is that, for enough people to get him elected, he has charisma. they like him. he is political marmite and people slagging him off doesn't alter the view of those who like him - it probably only reinforces it. his weakness is that he is utterly incompetent - it's that that will do for him in the end, not the fact that people who would never vote for him really hate him.

High on platitudes, meaningless soundbites and 100% genuine imitation sincerity. From a vacuous chancer who can’t be trusted to stick to his word or put the interests of the country ahead of his own ambitions.
But enough about Starmer, how did Boris’s speech compare?
Pronouns: He/Him

"slagging him off doesn't alter the view of those who like him - it probably only reinforces it"
Unfortunately this goes for everything political, even when the "slagging off" is just criticism. Their identity becomes interwoven with the political party or politician they support.

What I don't get is why they all hated Jeremy Corbyn so much.
The Brexit the gammonistas voted for is delivering all the shortages, rampant inflation and economic damage they said that Jeza would cause after all....
I don’t think many people hated Corbyn. They just couldn’t see him as PM.

He's an after dinner speaker, rather than a serious political orator
Has everyone heard the story of the supposedly "off-the-cuff" after dinner speech scribbled on a bit of paper, supposedly on a train that was 'delayed', making him 'unavoidably late'?
Which exact "off-the-cuff" speech, excuses & performance was then delivered to an entirely different after dinner audience (except for one, who happened to be a journalist) at a different event weeks later ...
Nauseating that so many gullible people keep lapping up the blatant lies month after month, year after year.

It was Jeremy Vine. Johnson is a well rehearsed shambles and nothing more.

And if better alternatives are not made available before the next General Election he will be voted in for a third time. It is sad, that so many on here do not seem to grasp that fact and just continue day after day with the same rhetoric against the government and all those that voted for it. Call us/them as many names as you like and accuse us/them of all sorts of misdemeanors, but your rhetoric will count for nowt. We need credible opposition - at the moment it does not exist.
Ah so it’s our fault that you voted for the tories. Got it.
You are in control of your own vote. If you feel there’s no credible opposition you don’t have to vote for the incumbent by default. Otherwise it’s rather like shooting yourself in the foot and then blaming everyone else because they didn’t try and stop you.

Add very lazy to his charge sheet
Rarely reads a briefing, never does much in the way of preparation
Just wings it

yes lazy and a bluffer. he is still essentially the journalist throwing something together 5 minutes before the deadline and hoping the jokes play well.

I think his point is quite valid though it doesn't paint the whole picture
The lack of credible opposition was shocking, with traditional core labour voters turning to the Tories due to their policy on Brexit. Whatever you think about pro or anti-Brexit the Tories had a policy and they were sticking to it. Labour didn't have a clue and it was reflected in the ballot box.
These are people who have voted Labour all their lives, whose parents voted labour etc... Labour was caught in no man's land and they are still trying to find the way out of the quagmire
