Anyone else considering not going Saturday? 11:44 - Dec 13 with 10299 viewshomer_123

I maybe in a minority and everyone has a choice to make, so this isn't a plea to stop people going.

I'm probably not going to go....not had booster yet, booked for next week. So, although double jabbed, likely I'll miss.

Having weighed everything up - just too close to Xmas to take a risk of contracting Covid and scuppering Xmas plans.

I know a fair few people who, on the run up to Xmas, seem to be limiting social contact etc.

Anyone else thinking the same?

No worries at all. I have not had my booster, will look to get that early next year but I do not give Covid a thought when it comes to watching the match.

Why on earth would people downvote the opening post?

It's an incredibly sensible post starting a meaningful debate.

For all those pussy footing about attending or not and ACTUALLY have tickets, please offer them to someone who would like to go and maybe could not afford it.

The rationale for keeping football grounds open is that Covid doesn't spread outdoors, so unless you're literally standing next to someone infectious for a prolonged period of time the risk is low. A rationale entirely defeated by having the concourses and bars open.

Shut the concourses and you'd make Portman Road a million times safer.

Agreed, or at the very least mandate mask wearing as that is non existent in the concourses.

I assume Joe mean immune to the effects.

It does feel set up for one of those memes; "how it started, how it's going" though.

"Pussy Footing"?

I see they are all coming out of the woodwork now. Being concerned about the wellbeing of themselves and others is something to be ashamed of.

Cretinous.

"I'll be going - I feel pretty immune to it as have had booster and lived with my son and wife who had it (and there wasn't a hint of isolation from me with either of them) and didn't get it but will take the necessary precautions"

Just for clarity, they didn't have Omicron which is miles more contagious from what the studies are showing. Having had Delta doesn't stop you getting Omicron either.

Doesn't affect your decision of course, just putting the information out there for all.

There have also been deaths, sadly, of fitness enthusiasts - people in their 20s-40s who had top diets and climbed mountains, ran marathons etc. for fun, and considered themselves "fairly immune".

'Inside Science' on BBCR4 recently also said, iirc, that research has now been done showing a genetic factor causes some people to be more susceptible to serious illness from Covid than others. It might have been this ep, not sure -

I'm confused as to why this hasn't been enforced more. I'd hazard a guess and say 5% or fewer wear masks in the concourses of the North Stand.

Give people credit for being able to make their on decisions. My point was that if you have a ticket and feel that you can not go offer it to someone who wants to.
By the way I am going.

It's a really difficult one.

I want to go as a home win may bring a little bit of feel good factor and boy do we need it. But it's so close to Xmas and going home to see my parents who I of course did not get to see last Xmas.

I'm due to have my booster Thursday so that won't really give me any protection yet but it's more the concern of picking up Covid and ruining Xmas rather than for myself.

I'm not so worried when outside. If i do go i may turn up slightly after kick off so i can walk through empty concourse and just go straight to my seat and then leave early or last so to avoid the masses

mask wearing pretty much unenforceable without a huge army of stewards and massively undermined by serving drinks anyway. The Government should've really mandated that football stadia can stay open on the condition that they have bars shut and no loitering in the concourse. Get to your seat, watch the game.

I think that the second half of your post and people sharing your mindset is exactly the reason why me and so many others will probably not be going on Saturday...

that's what I've been doing - arriving early, get settled in seat, stay there for the whole game, wait until everyone clears out post-game

Not being overly aggressive but find it irritating to get so much advice from those that do not have tickets and have no intention of going.
We get flooded with advice from everywhere and I strongly believe that people can make their own calculated decisions.
I sometimes forget that this forum contains experts on every field who must not be questioned by morons and cretins.
