Our debutants yesterday 07:48 - Jul 31 with 5872 views | LegendofthePhoenix | Greg Leigh - what a player we have there. He made a fabulous saving header soon after coming on that was a certain goal for Notlob. He is really positive, looks as strong as an ox, quick, gets right up the pitch, great delivery, and should have started. The only reason I can see for him not starting yesterday is that if we needed defensive muscle for the last 30 minutes, he would be the choice. But a baffling decision by KM. Freddie Ladapo - got into some decent positions, looks dangerous, but scuffed his best chance. Up against a very tough defensive unit, but looks like he will get goals. Marcus Harness - Just didn't see him get into the game at all. He needs more time on the training ground with the squad to learn how to time runs. On that showing, he isn't earning a starting place, and I was disappointed with what I saw. Leif Davis - feel sorry for the lad. I think it was the wrong call to start him, he must still be living out of a suitcase and hasn't had time to do his laundry from Australia yet, let alone train with the squad and get an understanding. That said, he looks quick and positive, and should come good, but he will have his work cut out to be first choice over Leigh. A bit careless to make contact for the pen, but he isn't the first and won't be the last to do that. Tyreece John-Jules - nearly forgot we had 5! He looks extremely lively. Will be a helluva handful for League 1 defences. Missed a couple of chances though, but nice to have those skills and pace in our front line. [Post edited 31 Jul 2022 7:54]

Our debutants yesterday on 08:34 - Jul 31 by DavoIPB | Really don't like Chaplin as a player. Too slow and not strong enough. Didn't do much yesterday. We have much better options. I.e Aluko and JJ |
Can’t take this seriously

Our debutants yesterday on 09:50 - Jul 31 with 1595 views | Mullet | Ladapo and TJJ showed they have real class yesterday. If we were a month in and still lacking that understanding I'd be concerned, but I reckon after a couple of games and players know where their runs will be we will be very effective up top. Ladapo was really unlucky a couple of times not to play others in. His close control was great against a defender who is a real nightmare and more than once he played a no look pass, or a diagonal that was unfortunate not to open them up. TJJ has all the tools you'd expect from someone at Arsenal, don't think it'll be a loan akin Tammy Abraham at Brizzle but he will definitely contribute this season if he stays fit. Harness will too it just wasn't his game yesterday. By the time we got back into it we needed to change things up but it will be someone else's turn on another day.

It was a clearing header that any CB would have been proud of, I said at the time if Davis had still been on the pitch he wouldn’t have been in the same position

You say that. But for someone who's shown and known for looking at every little detail about players and football in general. Is it not surprising that he suddenly forgot all aspects of that understanding to go and start a player who'd have had 1 days full intensive training with the first team prior to the first game of the season. It was just a very very strange decision.

Our debutants yesterday on 07:59 - Jul 31 by DJR | It's funny how opinions vary. I have some misgivings about Chaplin but thought he did well yesterday. |
Jules and Aluko were far more effective in the 10 roles than Chaplin and Harness.

Our debutants yesterday on 07:57 - Jul 31 by textbackup | that JJ took the ball at one point and managed to get between two bolton players to create something out of nothing for himself.... so nearly a goal, really liked him was a little disappointed in chaplin yesterday, one of, if not my favourite player, but really didnt get in the game |
He should have gone down there as he was in the box and the defender had hold of his shirt, coupled with the soft pen earlier, I think it might have been given

Our debutants yesterday on 09:53 - Aug 1 with 1314 views | RobTheMonk | Agree with pretty much all of this. Leigh should have started. I feel it may have been a case of 'let's get our expensive new toy out before reading the instructions' with regards to Davis playing. Ladapo's general play was pretty good. Harness looked very much like a player who'd been parachuted into a team and was perhaps trying too hard. JJ looks like he's going to be a fun watch.
Our debutants yesterday on 11:28 - Aug 1 with 1249 views | Vaughan8 | Agree with it all but I don't think Ladapo will get loads of goals. Good strong player upfront and held the ball up well. I like him but I think we need goals from the 2 other up there! Harness looked not fit at the start, or maybe a bit lost as he didn't seem to be able to pass it! He did improve though so hopefully a few more games we will get the best version of him!
Our debutants yesterday on 11:49 - Aug 1 with 1237 views | nodge_blue | I couldn't help think that the million should have gone on a forward to ensure we got the right one and agree about Leigh. But harsh on Davis. He is allowed a bit of a dodgy game in the circumstances.

Also. Forgot to mention KMs 'patience' mention. Tells people to be patient. Yet throws the new signing in immediately and will then wonder why people will have a negative mindset about the 1.5 mill spending.

I know people will slate me for this, but I often think Chaplin can go missing in games. It was the same against Millwall too - when we made the changes we looked a lot more threatening. Certainly a talented player though, no doubt about that.

Tbh one of the most overated players at the club. And it's not his fault. He should leading the front line. Not running around like a headless chicken as a 10 option. His hold up play isn't great. He can't pick out the killer ball and isn't played in his best position. As a striker he might well be able to be rated accordingly. But for what he's used as... overated.

I actually agree with you here to some degree. His passing isn't 'cute' enough for the number 10 role. However, his energy makes up for that inefficiency somewhat and he does have the energy to play how Mckenna wants. I can see why he's in the team. His finishing has been good in the past and like you say, I think he should be playing up top.

Yeah, but his body clock was thrown by having to wait for the Neighbours finale. Def info.

Are talking about a different Connor Chaplin or are we still talking about the Connor Chaplin who scored 11 goals last season?

Our debutants yesterday on 19:42 - Aug 1 with 883 views | Swansea_Blue | There were some good signs, but all the new guys seemed over eager and lacking a bit of composure. Understandable of course that they’d want to make an impression, and I expect once they settle they’ll all be fine. Highlight for me was probably Leigh’s determination to win that defensive header. ‘You shall not pass’ is what we need. You can’t really teach that, it’s all about character and desire.

Our debutants yesterday on 21:58 - Aug 1 with 849 views | Nthsuffolkblue | I agree especially about Leigh and Davis. It makes me wonder how good McKenna must rate Davis if he has been signed to play ahead of Leigh. I hope that if they both continue as they started then McKenna will have no qualms about swapping them round in the pecking order. However, I trust McKenna's judgment enough to expect Davis to come good with some time with the squad and settling in off the field.

He isn't in the side to hold the ball up - that's why we've bought Ladapo. I must watch a different game. He's pivotal to a lot of what we do, busy between the lines etc, and is an excellent finisher coming on to the ball.
