What if we lose to Burton or Accrington?

I’m hoping for 5 points from the Three toughies at Bolton, Barnsley and Derby. Secure that and only drop a couple of points at home and I still think we could take Second spot.

It's probably still a long shot that anyone else catches them in truth. They need 6 wins and a few draws from their last 13 games to make 90 points and leave everyone below them needing more than 2 points per game. They've got half a dozen home games of a type they've not looked even vaguely vulnerable in.

not that bulletproof though, they drew against fleetwood in the most recent game. we'll see if their injury absences etc make this blip extend into their new normal

Plymouth Fixtures on 15:49 - Feb 27 with 1740 views | pafcprogs | If I were a Town Wanderers County or Barnsley fan I would think ( or want to think) exactly what this thread is thinking. Now have a look at how many times you four play each other and Wednesday plus Posh and Why Come in those last games So one thing is for sure...you are not all going to have epic runs. 5-2 Saturday was not great but it was still very close until we chased the game.....and Posh have five wins in seven....so not the shabbiest form. Points on the board, as Sturrock would say..... Every points a prisoner. So if you win nine games , we can win eight , or seven and draw two.... Are any of the chasing pack going to win nine out of thirteen? Assume you win the next two...you ought to....then Bolton, Shrewsbury, Barnsley Derby, Why Come...and that still leaves trips to Posh and Fleetwood . Plus we have three of the last four at home.....by which time two of them should be safe and two will probably be down..... But who knows.....maybe five million and change will get you the autos.... I think it is too tight to call....I can still see Wednesday having a blip....their next four Posh, Pompous, Bolton, Barnsley. The thing is over 46 games you finish where you probably deserve to.....we would have bitten your hand off for Play offs pre season so to be in the box seat with thirteen games left is above and beyond expectation and budget, But time will tell.....

While I agree with you about Plymouth having an easier run in on paper than the chasing pack, there are very few guaranteed wins in this league, especially when the pressure is on. Burton and AS will not be pushovers, the former have put a decent run together recently, while AS are the type of side that will make life very difficult for Town. I saw that Fleetwood took points off you at your place. as they did to us. Plenty of potential twists and turns to follow, Weds being in top two is the only outcome I would say is reasonably certain. The rest is up for grabs.

Plymouth Fixtures on 18:22 - Feb 27 with 1522 views | OldFart71 | If games between any teams in any league were easy to predict there wouldn't be bookmakers offering odds. Fact is you never know. we could win every game between now and the end of the season and still be third, we could draw some, win some, lose some and end up second. 5 points is basically one win and two draws. Two wins and we are second providing Plymouth lose. One defeat for us and a win for them and we are back to eight point difference. So many combinations. So much to play for. I hope we make it. But if we don't get automatic just make sure we win the playoffs. Given a choice I'd obviously prefer automatic as I am neither a lover or a fan of the playoffs. It's just another way to get readies out of fans and to satisfy the Wembley coffers. Yes I know we are all aware of the situation at the beginning of a season. But I strongly challenge a system whereby someone who finishes sixth and can be a dozen points less than a team that finish third either should or deserve promotion.

Plymouth Fixtures on 20:24 - Feb 27 with 1441 views | clive_baker | I wouldn’t say regardless of what we do as mathematically speaking we can still finish on 102 points, albeit highly unlikely. If that wasn’t enough for 2nd I’ll cut my nob off with a rusty breadknife. I think their final 4 look favourable, if we’re not above them before those I make it unlikely, but they’ve got some tough fixtures until that point IMO. We’re certainly 2nd favourites given the 5 point gap, but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that it’s down to, say, 3 points by 10pm next Tuesday. Just need to focus on ourselves and hope a slip up or 2 and bit of pressure gets to them.

Sky have us at 5/6 for automatic promotion. Plymouth 11/8. I think it’ll go to goal difference and ours will be superior such that we go into the last game knowing that a win will do it

Well at the moment we have all kinds of excuses for losing 5-2 whether its fatigue or losing concentration, I put it down to being thrashed by the better team on the day who wanted it more than we did. At 3-2 we were chasing the game but still in it, but errors from all quarters meant we got soundly beaten and fair play to them. As for promotion, well every fan wants their team to get automatics and I think its fair to say no one expected us to stay the course, most certainly not Argyle fans. We are where we are because we have earnt it but nothing is won as it stands and it is still in our hands to get over that line but three hard games coming up where in all possibility we could end up with no points at all. Our run in is however much more favourable than others around us and it wouldnt surprise me even with three more losses that we end up winning the rest of them and pinching 2nd place. It has been one hell of a season and Wednesday are now showing everyone that they are most likely the winners of the league and fair play to them, who comes in second though well you could throw a coin in the air and see where it lands its that close. The aim from an Argyle view point was to go one better than last season, we finished on a record points total which failed to get play offs, we had a lack of bodies come the end and this is where we have made a difference this season adding the bodies needed to get us through. Do I expect us to get 2nd now? Not really no, it could easily be you or Derby tbh, it would be disappointing but thats life and we would just give it a go in the play offs and see what happens, but there is always next season. Good fun this season though :)

Plymouth Fixtures on 13:47 - Feb 28 with 1025 views | itfc_bucks | At risk of sounding like a bit of an arrrrrse, I just want to focus on what we're doing. Barring a real collapse, win the last three games of the season, by hook or by crook, and we go up. Let's just win our games and the league table will sort itself out.
Plymouth Fixtures on 15:17 - Feb 28 with 935 views | BigCommon | Confidence , which helps momentum, is a fragile thing... They could quite easily have a slump, regardless of opposition. As could anyone else.. We just have to make sure that it isn't us, and that we've already had ours..
Plymouth Fixtures on 15:55 - Feb 28 with 867 views | Vaughan8 | If we had a home record of 14-1-1 we wouldn't be worried about any of those home games....... Say they only win 4 out of 7, and draw a few, thats still 14 points. I would say our 5 after the next 2 home games are difficult:- 11 Mar 15:00 Bolton Wanderers A 18 Mar 15:00 Shrewsbury Town H 25 Mar 15:00 Barnsley A 1 Apr 15:00 Derby County A 7 Apr 15:00 Wycombe Wanderers H [Post edited 28 Feb 2023 16:35]

I'd think it'll stay the same, we have to navigate 3 form teams. Hell....even Burton aren't as shyte as they were based on most recent form. Next 6 won't decide it, it'll be the last 3 or 4.

On paper I agree. However this league seems to throw up a lot of surprises, who expected them to lose to Peterborough, let alone get thumped. Personally I see all their fixtures as having the potential for dropping points. That said I do think Plymouth will finish second. I think Barnsley will struggle to maintain that kind of form. Whilst not very optimistic about our prospects in the playoffs I do think our squad size will be an advantage having to play (potentially) another 3 games after a long 46 game season.
