….covid 19 probably leaked from a Chinese government laboratory.
That’s interesting isn’t it. Many TWTD boyos got upset when Trump called it the Chinese virus.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Working from home has also to be taken into account. It can't be much fun for many young people, or many single people of any age, who have to work from home, if they'd really prefer to be in work for social and other reasons.

On the university point, COVID’s the least of it really. It certainly hasn’t helped but mental health issues were already significantly higher before covid. Ever greater financial pressures, workload/deadline pressures, modularisation and huge class sizes making it harder to make friends. And just kids today - it’s scary how many live online lives, preferring to stay in and game than go out for a few beers like we used to. Throw in the usual emotional turmoil around relationships and the like and it makes for a stressful and sometimes lonely existence for some.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

My eldest daughter had a terrible first year at Uni.

Started at West of London Uni in September 2020. Her campus was put on lockdown in October 2020 due to an outbreak of Covid. When they came out of lockdown she had a few weeks ‘freedom’ where she tried to get a part time job. But no one was hiring because of Covid restrictions. So I had to look after her financially. She came home for Christmas, Boris locked England down and Nicola said nobody could leave Scotland.

In January she emailed the agents for the student accommodation exposing that she couldn’t get back to her flat, which they never bothered replying to. She was stuck up here until April 2021 when Nicola relaxed some restrictions. By this time she was completely disillusioned with the whole thing. She was studying music performance and music management, the first of which was impossible to do online.

We drove down in April to collect her stuff from the flat and she gave up the course, starting from scratch at Stirling studying Law. She loved music and wanted to go into management as well as performing. I’ve never heard her pkwy a note since.

Oh and the agents for her accommodation set a debt collection agency on her for six grand in unpaid rent, even though she emailed them to give up the flat. After months of me fighting with them we haven’t heard anything from them in over a year.

What should have been a great experience for her living in London as an 18 year old student was instead an utter nightmare.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Whether it came from a Chinese lab or a Chinese wet market, it doesn't really impact the your third sentence. I got annoyed by the deliberately inflamatory rhetoric because it resulted in an increase in Asian hate crime and racial abuse. Some of it directly impacted my wife when we were in the UK, as she is ethnically Korean. She was impolitely asked to go back to China...

But hey, you do you. Crack on with re-writing the narrative.

Its straight forward what occurred to the most:
Wuhan lab leak.
Chinese cover up (but visible on social media dead lining the street).
Spread into European ski resorts and limit on spread not successful, global travel spread.
High mortality rate and life support systems means NHS would have been completely overwhelmed.
Countries with high urban populations needed significant lockdown.
In fact in UK doctors surgeries drew up do not resuscitate lists on neigborhoods.
Major financial agencies took advantage and profited where possible.
Digital connectivity enabled work and learning to continue.
Vaccines saved us.

I think you've accidently said something reasonable mr! It was almost considered a racist or xenophobic accusation at one point, probably about the same time they renamed it to Covid from Wuhan.

But to be fair, 4 other US agencies aren't backing this opinion yet.

Edit: oops too slow with the other agencies point - apologies for the repetition.

Cheers. I'd not put myself or my colleagues anywhere near, unfortunately I had far too many hospital visits during restrictions for family reasons and was blown away by the staff.

I would. I discussed this with Ms C tonight - she’s an ex teacher and is grateful that she didn’t have to go through what you did. From what she told me this is a really complex area which makes my question a naive and stupid one. Apologies.

But I do have a tiny inkling on what teachers have to contend with and you have me sympathy and support. I wouldn’t have lasted five minutes.

In my experience, Teachers go above and beyond constantly. Having put 4 kids through school I’m in awe of people who work in that profession.

I agree totally. The funny thing is that those who do that work have no idea how fantastic they are. I include Mrs C and my mate’s misses who we were out with tonight.

Funny, because your statement demonstrates you let feelings get in the way of facts.

Fact: Biden won the election
Feeling: Trump felt he should have been president
Conclusion: The "right" let feelings get in the way of facts

If only we'd listened to Trump and drunk bleach, the pandemic would have ended much sooner.

Mainly because we'd all be dead but that's beside the point.

Which facts are these?

Please outline them along with the evidence supporting them.

Also worth noting that the Department of Energy said it was from a lab leak, wasn't a weapons programme and that they made that statement with "low" confidence.

On a side note, on top of the evident desire for people to politicise and blame Covid on China, the lab leak narrative shows a desperate lack of knowledge about how animals and humans coming into contact more and more unnaturally brings new diseases – and always has done.

Not just in the few decades with HIV, SARS, MERS etc. but pretty much all the big viral and bacterial diseases and plagues that have cut through populations at different times. And all due to us sharing spaces (and the diseases that come with that) with each other and from one species to another.
