As per previous posts, not a good idea to mention any names for obvious reasons, it's whoever posts that would be in potential legal strife, not TWTD.

I saw a couple of board elders (who perhaps ought to know better) produced an easily identifiable word play last night, then commented on it. There may have been others this morning. It's right it was taken down and has potentially saved themselves a lot of aggro.

BBC Presenter Thread on 13:28 - Jul 10 by J2BLUE | It's always amusing seeing people go from ultra cocky to panicking and issuing apologies once they get a legal threat. Scum. |
Thought Brain Moore dealt very well with one case the other day on twitter. The guy who slandered him obviously hadn't understood that hinting and innuendo had been established in law as being libelous (assuming what is hinted at is wrong) After a while the guy pulled the tweet, apologised and BM let it go stating he didn't see the benefit in bankrupting the guy. Clearly 99% of libelous posts won't be followed up, but it is still a very silly game for those who go down that route.

Just the public apology will make people think twice. I particularly enjoyed one smug attention seeking bellend recently having to tweet an apology to JK Rowling. If people want to play with fire they risk getting burned.

Social Media can be so remote and anonymous from reality that some people think that they can say what they want without repercussions. A few court cases might well make some use Twitter etc much more carefully.

from the Beeb, just to make clear the coppers do take allegations made online seriously if the victim chooses to complain Police probe malicious social media claim The Met Police also gave a separate update earlier this afternoon - in relation to another development. It comes after Nicky Campbell, of BBC Radio 5 Live, tweeted he had reported an anonymous Twitter account to the police over a post wrongly claiming he was the presenter concerned. A statement from the Met says: "On Saturday, 8 July police received a report of malicious communication in relation to a post on social media. "An investigation is under way and enquiries are ongoing. There have been no arrests." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-66147560

The parents possibly suspected this was coming, via the news reports released yesterday that the presenter had contacted the young person, asking them to put pressure on to withdraw the allegations?

If this is true, that paper is more of a disgrace than I already consider it to be. That disgusting toad Kelvin Mckenzie was interviewed earlier. He was lamenting the loss of "the good old days" of journalism. I presume he was referring to "The Truth" headlines. Disgusting excuse for a human being.

This is the issue, of course, we just have no idea because there is very little to go on other than an accusation and The Sun saying they have seen some evidence of wrongdoing. Maybe the allegations are indeed true, but it certainly doesn't seem clear-cut.

Unfortunately, I doubt it will Social media has merely exposed the gross stupidity and ignorance that was once reasonably hidden You only need to see what happened with Nicola Bulley (missing, found drowned). So many awful and repugnant comments, and actions.

I said on the deleted thread that the real scandal here is The Sun sh*tting all over people’s lives again. If there’s been anything illegal going on, that’s best left to the authorities. According to the young man’s lawyer there was no illegal act, and that seems to be the police view so far with no charges being bought. But The Sun just wanted to sensationalise and leave the door open for speculation that leads to defamation just for clicks/revenue. They’re a cancer on this country, always have been.

You mean like one twitter account with a couple of followers posts, without any evidence, that we’re about to sign someone and people on places like this then spend hours debating and discussing the merit of said player.

If you make it obvious who the person is without naming them then you can be on dodgy ground, think they call it jigsawing or something along those lines.
