No, no - I'm not a loon suggesting he's be a good signing.

That we were in a position to, how would you feel about signing him? No charges brought, innocent until proven guilty, trial by social media etc.

It seems likely that a decision by Man U will be made imminently. Not that it affects us, but I really don't begrudge those who have to make the call.

From a footballing perspective he would quite clearly be too good for the Championship. Such a talent, and one I fear wont reach it's full potential.

Too rich for us and I wouldn't like all the hoo-ha that would come with him.
And I doubt he'll reach the peaks that he once did (Eng international if I recall correctly).
Suspect he'll go abroad somewhere to rebuild his career.

No.

We all heard the recordings. "Innocent" or not. He's clearly not a pleasant individual.

Luckily we couldn't come close to affording him

There’s few things that would make me not go and watch us, this would be one of them.

I’m a great believer in rehabilitation and redemption but Greenwood’s situation is a bit too uncomfortable for that.

I’d like to see the sport offering him a way back but I don’t think we should be at the head of the queue. Unless McKenna wants to step up and make it personal given he’ll have worked with Greenwood before.

Just no.

I could never cheer a goal scored by this individual so it would really spoil my support of Town. His character is evident from the recording, messing about on England duty etc

I am strong believer in second chances, rehab etc as somebody else has mentioned.

It was a very uncomfortable listen that recording - and I think regardless of being guilty or not, I think he needs to show willingness to go through some form of rehab/awareness course.

Ultimately he was 19 years old, a young kid - and hope he shows willingness to change through rehab, then and only then do I think he should be allowed to resume his football career.

I'd hate signing him yet feel slightly bad in doing so as I do believe in innocent until proven guilty. But there's so much in the background about him; I don't think his character would suit what we're trying to build.

As a matter of interest, has he ever expressed regret at what he did?

He hasn't, he's been silent throughout.

I think that hasn't helped him, I think he should now be a bit more vocal about how he will go through a rehab course to show his regret.

It would go a long way, and I am sure would make a lot more people more open to the idea of him returning to football.

The only reason he's able to say he's 'innocent until proven guilty' is because he managed to worm his way back in with the girl, who then retracted her evidence and dropped charges. He shouldn't be touched by any club, regardless of talent.

If there was no conviction, can they terminate his contract?

I assume not, without paying it up in full so I'm guessing a year long loan to someone like Galatasaray

A difficult one to implement when there's no actual conviction, but I broadly agree with this. Irrespective of the case being dropped, he seems to be a thoroughly unpleasant individual and he needs to reflect on that.

A bit of contrition and expression of sorrow that he put the girl in the position where she expressed things as she did would go a long way. The fact that she (presumably secretly) recorded this incident shows she was at the very least uncomfortable with what he was doing says a huge amount. OK, she’s retracted the complaint but he just needs to say sorry for acting as he did and how thankful he is to her for letting the complaint drop. Doesn’t even need to accept guilt, but just sorrow that a girl was made to feel like she obviously did at that time.

A lesson for many of us perhaps! (Edit - not saying any of us have put a girl in that situation, but just in life in general things would often be a bit better if we said sorry a bit more easily wouldn’t it. )

Not withstanding salary he is hardly the type of person who would fit in the culture of our squad.

Yes probably in the minority Got a child with her now and relationship. Getting on with his life now. Him and Chaplin would have a field day against Championship defences.

Given the dire rates of conviction for sexual violence and the known phenomenon that abusive relationships are incredibly hard to get people out of for a variety of reasons, I do think it's tough for football clubs to just fall back on the decisions of the justice system in these situations. People can be credibly accused, evidence of violent behaviour out there in public, with the prospect of any actual legal convictions still being incredibly remote.

The owners have made it perfectly clear that the character of a player is as important as their ability, if not more so. That was demonstrated by their unease in retaining Norwood.

Now Greenwood maybe as pure as the driven snow, misrepresented and guilty of nothing but helping old ladies across the road. Innocent until proven guilty. But regardless, even if it was feasible I cannot see the owners entertaining it. Why would they go there?

We are in a position now where players should be wanting to come to us as much as us wanting them. I know the years of Evans desperation (and earlier) linger long in the memory, but I really don’t think we need to be looking at the Chopra’s, Taylor’s, Thatchers, Bowyers, old men seeking a pension, the rehabilitated, made of glass, cheap punts Cokey style of this world

Why would they go there? He was arguably the greatest prospect (certainly in the top 3) in the country 18 months ago!

He won't be rocking up here anytime soon and a bigger club than us (maybe even Man Utd) will take a shed load of flak for giving him another chance soon. He's too good for someone not to.
