Kieran McKenna 17:15 - Aug 17 with 6906 views | Vic | I see and hear a lot of people say how fortunate we are to have him, that he's the best in the division, etc. I'm really, really happy he's our manager but is he really, objectively better that Carrick, Schumacher, Mowbray, Robins, Maresca, and dare I say, Martin? Discuss (nicely!!) [Post edited 17 Aug 2023 17:17]

Kieran McKenna on 17:21 - Aug 17 with 5088 views | LeoMuff | He looks to have huge potential, so far it’s just that. You would hope most half decent managers would get you out of league 1 with the resources given, he did it well, which is impressive. We will know so much more at the end of this season whether we have a decent young manager, a future premier league manager or the next Bobby Robson, all of which are possible. It looks like we may not be able to massively improve the squad this summer which will be a huge test of his skills.

Kieran McKenna on 17:29 - Aug 17 with 5002 views | MattinLondon | KM is still quite an inexperienced and very young manager or head coach. Like young players, he’ll make mistakes but he has the intelligence to learn from them. And it’s important that the club supports him when he does make a mistake. At the moment you can’t compare him to Mowbray, Robins etc as they have a lot more experience than him - but, I do think that he has the potential to far exceed them both. In L1 KM he was a relatively high profile manager of a big L1 club. At strange at it’ll sound, in the championship McKenna will be able to blend more into the background in comparison to Leeds, Leicester and Southampton etc. Schumacher has in comparison, over achieved at Plymouth and it’ll be interesting to see if he moves to a bigger club with bigger expectations. KM has arguably managed such expectations and the club could well progress with him. In short, KM can far exceed what Mowbray etc have achieved as managers. Harder to compare him with Schumacher- in my opinion that is.

Kieran McKenna on 17:32 - Aug 17 with 4982 views | Daninthecampo | You're not Pep's assistant unless you're very good, so Maresca should come good the others are good but McK is another level above them | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It’s not just the results or the promotion. There are several factors that convince me he’s the real deal. Very good man manager. All the players praise him highly. Even the ones he let go. He’s improved every one of the players who was already here. He is very smart tactically. Bringing on Jackson Saturday being a prime example. He’s a nice bloke but is utterly ruthless. Look at the way he replaced Ladapo and Donacien with Hirst and Clarke. He has very good pedigree. A former assistant manager at Manchester United. Open and honest at press conferences. Doesn’t look down in people who haven’t been in the game. [Post edited 17 Aug 2023 17:53]

Kieran McKenna on 18:47 - Aug 17 with 4554 views | berkstractorboy | Probably yes, better than all on your list expect possibly Robins for me. With the resources he has had Robins has done wonders with Cov and proven that last season in the champ. But I think KM has more potential and will go further in the game than all on the list. KM stats for how he has the team playing in terms of defence right through to goal scoring changes and conversions is right up there. Schmacher has done well on the budget he had but his team isn't playing as well as a KM team. That will become more evident as the season progresses.
Kieran McKenna on 19:54 - Aug 17 with 4226 views | N2_Blue | Yes Listen to his pre and post match interviews, then listen to all the other managers you have listed. He is tactfully astute and aware of much finer details than many managers. Then listen to what players say about him and you will realise there is something in it. Every player on our books basically says they have never been so well prepared for each game. It’s tailored specifically for each game.

Kieran McKenna on 20:07 - Aug 17 with 4174 views | BigCommon | Think KM gets the best out the available players. Studies how opposition can be got at. And has excellent in game management. Not afraid to be brave, and encourages his players to be brave, too. As a fan, it's a very exciting watch. And a far cry from previous managers just sticking to their guns and hoping... Mowbray is on the OP list. Well we recently beat Boro at their place, with a couple of key players missing.. The very next game, Stoke were forced into a change after half an hour, and still couldn't force much.... I think there more to come from KM. Which is frightening when you think of it. As it stands, he can only do so much, with the squad he's got. It might be enough to get us out of this division. But, I don't think the current level of players we have, can reach the level that KM is capable of going to. He's an F1 driver, with an F3 motor atm..
Kieran McKenna on 20:38 - Aug 17 with 4033 views | Churchman | Too early to say, Vic. All I can say is that he feels a really good fit for the club and visa versa. I wouldn’t swap him for the names you mention. I like his approach.
Kieran McKenna on 20:48 - Aug 17 with 3973 views | Guthrum | McKenna's team is currently higher placed than those of all the others. About as good an objective metric as any. In reality, it's a near-impossible question to answer, certainly at the moment. We don't know how high McKenna's ceiling is, whereas some on that list have been around a while so we have a better idea. We're also only two matches into the season and Kieran has so far only crossed swords with Mowbray in a direct contest. Very limited data for a valid comparison. Plus there are many aspects to being a genuinely top manager. Not just tactics and selection, but also putting the squad together, motivating them, deciding the best roles for each player, liaising with the club and with fans, managing budgets and expectations, dealing with adversity. Last season (in League One) McKenna seemed to tick all the boxes.

All seemingly good managers.. on 20:49 - Aug 17 with 3971 views | unstableblue | Each with differing spending ability and squad quality. McKenna with a lower squad value, Schmacher the lowest, but superb buys. Who is the best in the division - ask me at the end of September. But certainly I couldn't be happier with the culture, style of play and attitude McKenna has brung. I am very invested in and proud of the club, and haven't felt like this since Burley. The dark days are feeling over.. Jewell, Keane, McCarthy, Hurst, Lambert.. yikes

Kieran McKenna on 22:42 - Aug 17 with 3594 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | Robins is the stand out for me. What he has achieved is incredible with Cov. McKenna has the highest ceiling though.
| |
Kieran McKenna on 22:45 - Aug 17 with 3575 views | tractordownsouth | Schumacher and Robins have done better jobs so far based on the budgets they've had to work with. I think McKenna will have go on to have the best career out of the managers on that list though.
| |
Kieran McKenna on 23:27 - Aug 17 with 3402 views | Swansea_Blue | Carrick, yes Schumacher, not sure Mowbray, possibly Robins, similar Maresca, yes Martin, yes It’s all very subjective of course, but for starters he’s got more coaching experience (if not managerial) than most of them. And then he’s obviously nailed the man management side already, plus it’s the coaching where the detail is to make a difference. The only one of that bunch who’s having as big an impact at the moment imo is Robins, who’s done exceptionally well with Coventry considering where they were. McKenna’s doing as well as any of them, is much younger and has a higher ceiling imo. I wouldn’t swap him for anyone else in the league. Actually, I don’t think I’d swap him for anyone else full stop. I think we’re still at the start of an exciting journey together.
