Next Ipswich manager.... 15:01 - Feb 9 with 6274 views | itfcjoe | ....obviously hopeful it doesn't come to this in the summer - but has anyone caught your eye and feels gettable? 2 managers I've liked a lot of what I've seen off Carlos Corberan - WBA and club in a mess Danny Rohl - Sheff Weds Rohl's probably going to see them go down, but he has turned round a squad who were dire and the worst in the Champ and got them looking good whenever I've seen them. Maybe just run out of steam a bit now as relegation creeps up on them. They are on Sky tonight

Next Ipswich manager.... on 16:43 - Feb 9 with 1848 views | Jimmy86 | I'd love for us to go for Mowbray! Did a great job at Sunderland and plays a really attacking style, but also knows how to defend .. Also like Schumacher would be a good shout.. I'd always thought of him, IF we ever lost McKenna.

They've been hit by a steam train in terms of injuries and absentees, hard to judge him with what he's had available this season to date.

That is fair. I just wonder how many are genuine losses or more like us losing Evans etc to injury. That makes a lot of difference I guess.

Harsh on him I'd say. They lost 40 goals from their side last summer. It was never likely to be easy to replace that.

Next Ipswich manager.... on 15:26 - Feb 9 by ITFC_Forever | As an aside, if / when McK leaves for another club, won't it be the first time this has happend to us, other than Sir Bobby and Sir Alf leaving for the England job. McGarry - Sacked Milburn - Sacked Ferguson - Contract not renewed Duncan - Sacked Lyall - Sacked Burley - Sacked Royle - Mutual Consent FC Magilton - Sacked Keane - Sacked Jewell - Sacked (Mutual Consent FC) Mick - Resigned Hurst - Sacked Lambert - Sacked Cook - Sacked |
IIRC The first timecwe sacked s manager was Duncan. Plenty since then McGarry left us for Wolves, didn't he?

Lyall moved upstairs rather than sacked and McCarthy's contract hadn't been renewed so he chose to go slightly early. Both of those were not quite the same as sacked/resigned really.

Milburn resigned. He said he wasn’t cut out for management. Cobbold wanted him to stay McGarry resigned to go to Wolves because he thought opportunities were better there. Cobbold wanted him to stay. Scott Duncan - resigned and became Secretary. Lyall had already had enough and had handed the first team over to his coaches, sadly. O’Brien sacked for an indiscretion. Of the rest, Magilton was unlucky given what wrecking ball Evans replaced him with. Maybe Burley too but he’d made a real dogs breakfast of his second season in the PL.

Joe… the big question for me? on 20:53 - Feb 9 with 1510 views | unstableblue | First off I think McKenna is here for several seasons, he’s surely invested in this project, and there aren’t that many clubs that can match out history, community or fan base. But I do think the parachute payment imbalance may at some point be the catalyst. I think Rohl is a good shout, entertaining football, and to re-engage that fan base after the woes they’ve endured is remarkable. But the big question for me with regard any future change from McKenna… is this… do we now have a footballing staff, beyond McKennas core 4 coaches, that can easily bring in a new manager, continue the strategy and ethos, and make any change seamless? Or are we built around the manager? Brentford, Brighton et al have created an environment that means managers can swap out seamlessly. I’m really not sure we’re there yet? But again I hope this change is many seasons away.

I must admit I wasn’t sure about Milburn and McGarry. For those saying Lyall moved upstairs, he did indeed, but was still in overall charge, so ultimately it was him and McGiven who were sacked in December 1994.

Next Ipswich manager.... on 15:54 - Feb 9 by monty_radio | I don't think that McGarry was sacked. He was quoted at the time as saying that he'd taken the club as far as he believed it could go (how ironic did that prove to be under his successor Robson!) Anyway, Wiki says he "walked out" so that proves it! |
McGarry left to go to Wolves as he felt they had more potential. Also, in that list, I’m fairly sure Lyall resigned rather than was sacked.
Next Ipswich manager.... on 10:43 - Feb 10 with 1031 views | muhrensleftfoot | I'd bring back Mick McCarthy. It's gone down hill since he left. Can't get a seat on the train from Felixstowe on matchdays, can't buy an away ticket for love nor money, queues at all the food and drink outlets at the ground. Often I could sit anywhere I wanted rather than my allotted seat. Never on TV, so match kick offs didn't change from 3pm Saturday. We used to have a team of proper blokes, even if they were rather limited talent wise. No, it's a right nightmare these days....
