And now we actually in the PL 09:47 - Jun 23 with 7870 viewsmuccletonjoe

We see the problems every promoted team has in attracting the higher calibre of players.
It is not going to be an easy summer for Ashton or McKenna. I can see our sights slowly lowering to players who will want to come rather than players we need.

The transfer window has only been open just over a week.

There have been 17 hirings by Prem clubs (plus one loan signing). Several of those being teenagers (like Leon Elliott with us) or former loans now permanent.

It's harly like the market is booming elsewhere.

Prem market is always slow & it’ll be even slower this summer due to the 2 major tournaments currently taking place.

Indeed, some of the hand wringing over lack of signings I'd really quite baffling. It's clear we are actively trying to recruit but deals don't often happen this early and for the types of player we want there may be other interest and we may also need to show a bit of patience. That said, I think we'll see one or two announced soon.

Be kind and give your bedsheets the summer off.

How you've managed to extrapolate that nonsense from the first week of the transfer window I have no idea.

Bit early for a meltdown isn’t it ffs. How many deals are you seeing being done with the Euros on.

There was the throwing toys out of the pram in January regarding landing of a striker. They aged terribly as we brought in Moore, possibly THE signing of the window. His goals helped see us over the line, and even Leeds fans lamented not going in for him.

You are risking looking a bit of a div going this early with a blub.

It’s a little early to run around shouting ‘we’re doomed!’

We do no know what is happening behind the scenes. PL business tends to be done later rather than earlier in the transfer window. Lots of players are at two tournaments. It’s still June.

Transfer windows are never easy unless you are Man City, Chelsea etc.

We have a list of targets. First priority would be players on that list who will be out of contract in 8 days time,, expect a couple of signings next week.

If no action in the next couple of weeks you can start to be a little concerned, but still won’t be bed wetting time.

Unlike other respondents I do not see this as a bad question, however I think you have to ask that standard response 'Do we want a player who does not see the club as the best place to be ?'

By that I would further suggest that we will be after players who see Ipswich as the best step in their career progression and development as a player, and not as the flashy big name on their CV. And by going after those players we avoid the show ponies, we avoid players who are not going to give their all for the team. And I guess that McKenna will know that problem very well from his time at Manchester United.

So whilst we are not in the market for the most expensive players who want to always to be in a team challenging for a Champions League place I do not think we are going to have a problem attracting players who are in the upswing and prime stages of their careers, they will want to work with McKenna and his team but the contract terms will be up to Ashton to agree and he will be mindful of FFP (the UEFA rules, not frozen fresh plasma) and its implications should we survive our first season or, I know we do not want to think about it, get relegated.

I don’t believe there is any evidence to speak of at this time but in reality the point you make is exactly what we faced this time last season at the lower level. New league, no form to speak of, potential the club would face a battle in the next league up and not be competitive.

In PL there is a serious challenge in that fees and wages are extreme but you market is wider for attracting talent because of the draw and showcase of the PL for players abroad not only in Eng.

It will be a long summer we should expect that potentially with final deals into Aug.

Everyone remain calm and get back to the Euros, Wimbledon, TdF and Olympics.

Exactly what happened last season you mean?only one division higher up with the added handicap of being amongst the relegation favourites and a manager who is likely to jump ship?

Should work in Town’s favour again if the likes of the Greek striker and Croatian goalie go somewhere sunny instead…. But McKenna’ grubby antics and subsequent lottery win will make Town an obvious target for dodgy agents and money-grabbing players worldwide.

A bit early to panic as the shops aren’t really open yet let alone sifting through the barrel scrapings… but one hopes a couple of good championship players might fancy a year of purgatory in the Prem followed by pocketing the parachute payments…as a worst case scenario - that seems about the best to be hoped for.

I think selling clubs are not in an immediate hurry. They probably want to wait to see if additional interest may arise. We cant afford to just keep increasing bids but have to play it a vit cool and also have other options.

What evidence is there that the manager is about to jump ship?

Weird take in the second paragraph is highly offensive about a very decent man who is our manager - you should be ashamed of yourself.

Third paragraph - it might be the best you can hope for but you are an eternal pessimist who expected us to be relegated last season rather than promoted!

The majority of Town fans are looking forward to promotion, I am certainly. If you aren't then probably best look in the mirror.
