Do any of you like the nickname or use the term when talking about our club? I’ve never liked it but it’s only now that we’re back in the premier league and feature more prominently in the national media that it’s really starting to grate.

It's going to be the new question to divide the forum, Fordson or Massey Ferguson ? (Clearly John Deere's colour scheme puts them out of the equation.)

Probably shouldn't admit it but I've been a secret John Deere fan since a kid..
Though in Co Leitrim it is well established that the Massey is Classey apparently

“The younger generation”.

Who are you trying to kid mate??!!

Sadly he is a younger generation than a lot of us on here.
The closest I came to embracing the tractor theme was the finidi song.
Other than that I take it as a sign of the times and accept it as it is ingrained into the club's identity at media level and isn't going to go away. But to us fans we are Town or Blues and I can't see that changing.
Mind you. it is better then the "switches" they tried to introduce eons ago.

I've really liked it but it was the national media's way of differentiating us from the other blue clubs at the time sadly

I like it. It’s good to have some individuality, especially in modern football.

And I don’t think it stops players signing for us or gives us a negative spin. Money and managers attract players, and a funny moniker doesn’t deter anyone.

Whenever a person who doesn't support us refers to us as the tractor boys I always point out it was effectively invented by Sky back in 2000/2001 when we got promoted. I don't like it but we have had the label for 20 years and some of our fans like it some don't, we're stuck with it now but I can live with it.

First heard it when we lost at Birmingham at the end of one season in the late nineties - “no noise from the Tractor Boys”.
Thought that was quite amusing and have actually liked it since.

I don't mind it. At least it's distinctive and not particularly insulting.

Plus there is a heritage link with Ransome's, noted manufacturers of agricultural machinery.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Yes it gives us more of an identity. "Come on Town" could refer to any one of Swindon, Huddersfield or all the other towns.

I'm 52 & much prefer it to the lame & unimaginative Blues or Super Blues
Any team who plays in blue can be those, but anywhere in the world, Tractor Boys means only 1 club!

Whether it's used by ourselves, or by someone else about us, I don't see it used negatively

Those who may fear it suggesting low intelligence country bumpkins... next time you see a farmer/tractor, tap them on the shoulder & put that to him/her & let me know how you get on!

However, I suspect I know the real reason those who dislike it so - one word...

Disliked it at first but don’t mind it now. Who cares. It’s an identity and the story behind how we acquired it is quite amusing.

Could be worse. We could be nicknamed after some mangy little yellow sparrow.

Quite, it was in response to that match with Birmingham and caught on. Nothing whatsoever to do with Sky. You can blame them for many things but not that. Indeed at the 78 Cup Final the Arsenal contingent had very conveniently put up a tractor park sign.
As a supporter for over 70 years I like it, distinctive and Suffolk.

I love the nickname Tractor Boys

But really it needs to be said with the proper Suffolk accent...

Long aaaa sound and miss out the middle t.....and give it a bit of OI in the second word

Super Blues is super-cringe....sounds like a bloody toilet cleaner that Kenneth Williams endorsed

And, of course, it now extends to one of the most free scoring teams in England.

All hail the Tractor Girls.

Love it. Light hearted monkier paying homage to the traditional roots of the club / town / county etc.. in a lighthearted way.

Glad it's generally embraced - growing up I always thought it a bit odd we didn't have a proper nickname.

I don't dislike it, am not particularly fond of it and never use it myself when referring to the team.

Not sure why the club never really developed a nickname as such before that came into use, although I guess Tractor Boys is better suited to the history of the Town than some other options . . .

I seem to recall that in the 60's there was an attempt by the club to get us to be callet "the Witches" Even had a mascot at the ground from the speedway team.

I like it.

One of my earliest pleasures in life was sitting on the back of a tractor and trailer in an apple box.

Now all those orchards and fields have gone sadly to the 01ers pilling out of the smoke.

I’m older and like it - have done since I first heard it which I think was a 2.1 away win at Leeds in 2000. This means it’s been around 25 years or so now; so here to stay

I don't mind it, and I think when it was first used /widely/ (i.e. in our previous Premier League stint), there was a fair amount of affection for us. We were playing good football, nobody in the Prem had any reason to dislike us, and we didn't really have any 'bogey' players. So I don't associate it with hate or patronising attitudes.

However, despite the fact that Ipswich is a town, surrounded by a rural county (as are many many towns!) the tractor image I think gives younger neutral fans an excuse to have an image of us that is not just rural but backwardly so. So we are getting a lot more jokes about in-bredness and numbers of fingers (which we ourselves often like to dish out to Norwich of course!) than I would like, and more than used to be the case.

But I think we're grown up enough to live with it, and we have enough confidence in our club, our approach, our manager, and the town itself, to shrug off any negativity.

My only frustration is that the tractor emoji on the iPhone is YELLOW, of all colours! :/

You've got to be a pretty sensitive soul to hate a nickname.

As others have said, I like how we took what was perceived to be a negative and turned it around. And I like that it came about naturally, as a proper nickname should, not some marketing bullsh!t foisted upon us like 'The Tricky Trees'.

And there's no evidence players haven't signed because of it.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
