What was the issue?

as at april 2025 yougov has the % of uk population that think immigration is too high at 70%. you are simply out of touch on this issue. if you listened to views outside of your bubble you'd be less surprised when it's pointed out to you.

Isn't it remarkable how creating a false narrative that immigrants are to blame for everything, can cause the public to think immigrants are to blame for everything?

Now, I don't want to upset people by pointing out that this has happened before, but... I'm sure it's happened before. I just can't remember the name of that political party who pulled it off. It was really successful if I remember rightly. Led to some big historical actions.

As far as I’m concerned, Reform are a bunch of charlatans and grifters. They’ll not be getting my vote.

However, people I know do support them and clearly at the moment so are a lot of other people. Labour and the opposition have to ask the question why and in Labour’s case what are they actually doing about it?

They're trying to appeal to those in that bracket who may well still change, by adopting equally stupid approaches re-disability benefits and using language more associated with nationalism than traditional labour values.

It's so out of touch- but in the current zeitgeist there's very little appetite for opposition, the general public are weary after the onslaught we have had to deal with from 2016 onwards.

We need good principled people to stand up for what is right, even if it's not in their personal best interests and frankly the idea of that happening in the current climate is laughable.

the public don't think immigrants are to blame for everything. the public think that net immigration of 3 million in 4 years is way too high.

pretending that the public are manipulated by malign actors and are incapable of forming their own views about uncontrolled mass immigration is condescending and elitist and just a way to avoid engaging with why the vast majority of the public disagree with you.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

And he pivots and he swerves and he makes stuff up. Again. Toxic disingenuity.

what's made up? we've been discussing why people vote for reform. part of the reason is that a very large majority of the public are concerned about the level of immigration and successive governments, despite their rhetoric, have ignored the issue. if you didn't treat everyone who has different views to yours with contempt that might understand why they hold their views and it all might come as less of a shock to you.

but not engaging with the things you don't want to hear and posting insults is what you do i guess.

I took part in yougov surveys for years but have stopped doing so because even a non-statistician like me could see they were flawed (eg by questions without a n/a option - but requiring you to click on some inappropriate answer because if you didn't, you couldn't proceed or finish the survey to claim your 50 or whatever points).

Would be interesting to see a pie chart of the demographics of who participates in yougov polls these days, who's stopped doing so and why ...

When you peddled this false narrative before I asked for evidence of posts where people had been called racist for wanting some control to immigration. There weren't any, but instead of holding your hands up you got in a huff, got abusive and then stropped off out of the thread never to return. Until now, when you've just ignored all that and trotted out the same bowlocks again.

I won't be surprised to see more abuse and your disappearing act again rather than debating the issue like an adult.

You following me around again Dollers?

I did answer your post the other week albeit I think to someone else, possibly Noggin, I’m sure you can look back but it addressed the points you made rather succinctly I thought.

Not sure why you think I am at your beck and call though, bit weird.

I haven’t debated on here since my original post as I’m on holiday with better things to occupy my mind with. I was staying in a brown persons house last night and replied this morning whilst I was waiting for him to return from Friday prayers in order to say goodbye - it’s just a thing us racists do.

I’ve just driven to the centre of Marrakesh, not for the feint hearted I can tell you. I can’t even get a beer around here.

Leave me alone.

Not everyone has to lay there story out there but I will say this that as another person who has kids with disabilities I am quite in tune with his concerns for the future as it feels to me like society is moving toward a prevailing attitude ranging from wanting to cut financial support to the disabled to outright spite and bigotry.

That’s how it feels it’s going. My kids will probably be dependent on me until I die and if I feel a particular political persuasion is being hateful towards them I’m not going to worry too much about offending their supporters.

Again, completely sympathise with this.

But your last line is the one I find troubling - it's the same people who are currently voting (or would like to vote) for Reform that we do need to constructively engage with rather than take the easy option of calling them horrible names.

Why do you keep referencing legal immigration numbers when a good portion of people citing immigration as an issue talk about small boats and illegal immigration.

If they are concerning about all levels of immigration they definitely shouldn't be listening to Farage given he's enabled it by pushing Brexit.

"pretending that the public are manipulated by malign actors and are incapable of forming their own views about uncontrolled mass immigration is condescending and elitist and just a way to avoid engaging with why the vast majority of the public disagree with you."

I think there is now a good body of evidence to refute this claim. Unfortunately many are led by soundbites and do believe what people like Farage or Trump say without checking for themselves. That's how these falsehoods gain traction. I hope we aren't heading down the "but both sides" argument from a month or so ago. If something is a falsehood it does not deserve to be given an equal weighting to an accurate piece of evidence.

Apparently 44% think immigration is the biggest problem facing the country so I don't think you can accurately say "the vast majority of the public disagree with you" [1].

Reform won Runcorn from Labour (where they previously held a large majority). Does that not tell you people aren't happy with what Labour is doing and therefore see no other option. The tories were dispensed with because they couldnt get a grip on it, Labour will suffer the same fate if they too fail to get results. Call it out as "racism" all you like, that's burying your head in the sand about the issue. Many people who are getting behind Reform aren't mouth-frothing racists, but everyday reasonable people who just want to see illegal immigration brought under control.

This.

i keep referencing legal net immigration because it amounts to getting of for a million people a year. small boats are a tiny number and for many of them we have a legal duty to accept them. making a dangerous crossing should be stopped, but the number involved is small compared to legal immigration. 70% of the public think total immigration is too high as do i. i keep posting that net immigration has been 3 million in 4 years - but no one comes back to argue that that number is sustainable or it has no effect on, for example, the housing crisis. even the most vocal on here don't seem to want to defend the current level of mass immigration.

One reply and I'm apparently "following you around" and expecting you to be at my "beck and call". Now that's weird.

Given how little involvement I've had with you, I really must have hit a raw nerve.

I've never called you a racist BTW, or even intimated such. Another straw man you've built.

I saw your succinct (pathetic) reply, calling me dim and also trying to accuse ME of racism by citing an embarrassing story I volunteered on here myself. That was pretty low and desperate.

I don't know what your problem is but I wish you all the best in finding an answer to it, as something is clearly troubling you.

Enjoy Marrakesh.

All I did was downvote a post - to be called a massive whopper, nasty etc.

I then replied with a detailed explanation of what my downvote meant. There's been empathy in each of my responses on this - but it doesn't seem to suit a certain narrative to even acknowledge that.
