Minimum expectations for next year…. 06:35 - May 20 with 6356 views | itfcjoe | ….for me - the only way promotion isn’t an acceptable outcome is a 90 point season where you lose in the playoffs. Similar to what Leeds did last year, and what Sheff U may still do this season. ‘Top 6’ isn’t ambitious enough as a target - we’ve got to be there or thereabouts for automatic promotion. Does that sound too harsh? I’m sure that’s what the club expectations will be - and betting markets will reflect that

Minimum expectations for next year…. on 11:21 - May 20 by Vic | If we're good enough we'll go up! And we should be good enough - the squad now (even if we lose a few) is stronger than a year ago and the manager is more experienced. If we make a bad start and it looks like we may battle for even a P/O place I've no doubt that KM will been shown the door. There will be no room for sentiment. For me the minimum is a very strong season, in the P/O's after the first month or so and pushing hard for the auto's. So basically the minimum is that we will be next seasons Sheff Utd. |
I would hope that we've learnt enough now that if we had a slightly shaky start the very last thing we would be doing is showing KM the door. He's one of the best young coaches in Europe and we are lucky to have him. Let's get back to not sacking managers. Not looking forward to having the rerun of the January moaning from the 22/23 and 23/24. 😑

Minimum expectations for next year…. on 12:21 - May 20 by SomethingBlue | At least one of Saints and Leicester will sort themselves out and come on very strong – may look all over the show now but realistically for clubs of their size it only takes a series of smart pre-season decisions and the picture changes dramatically. |
Yeah, can't see that Saints have any major issues that should make them intrinsically any weaker than us. They'll also be able to recoup the full value of their biggest talent, which we won't. Leicester might be in a bit more trouble if they get a points deduction, though they're about to get their 2022-23 financial calamity off their FFP calculations so might have more headroom?

Minimum expectations for next year…. on 12:36 - May 20 with 897 views | mellowblue | club's minimum ambitions will be top 2 promotion spots obviously. Their minimum expectations which is a different animal will be top 6. If the club were to say internally or externally that minimum expectation was top 2 and we hit Christmas 10 points off top 2 there would be internal pressure to make a change. I don't think the club will nail itself hard and fast to top 2. Let us not forget how we struggled to adapt to the championship with a better squad back in 2002. My personal ambitions and expectations are the same.

... I'm not sure that they will.... Leicester are likely going to need a new manager; Saints will certainly need one - in addition, there's a potential points deduction hanging over Leicester, and a groundswell of dissatisfaction towards the respective boards of both clubs.... (If McK goes, of course, then the picture looks a little different....) Both clubs are in a huge mess - yes, we're absolutely down there in the mire with them, (and don't we all know it....) but are we a shambles? Clearly not. As much as Ashton enjoys tasting himself, it's fair comment to say that he, and his team, have the club, overall, in a strong place. Top two must be the aim.

Minimum expectations for next year…. on 11:08 - May 20 by BseaBlue | Oh yeah absolutely. I just think that if Sheffield United go up, it must be a pretty unique situation whereby you will literally have only three teams with parachute payments next season! That must give us a huge advantage and one we haven't had the luxury of previously. Anything less than the top three won't be great but promotion via the play off final will soothe it! |
And also we’ve got to take into account Leicester’s cheating. They’ve been referred (again!) today over another breach of P&S rules, this time in their Championship promotion season last year. Hopefully this will catch up with them eventually and they’ll get a decent points deduction. I expect Southampton to sort themselves out and they should be a threat despite capitulating worse than us this season. A juicy points deduction for Leicester could be very handy.

That’s like saying that Leeds had a better team than us last season because they beat us twice. Currently I think we are better placed than both those sides in terms of the championship. A lot rests however on who we have and who they have come the start of next season. [Post edited 20 May 12:50]

Leeds did have a better team than us, any time they were above us that was stated. Due to PL money etc. We had a better spirit and togetherness over the other 44 games.

Also being " a mess" is all relative. Both Leicester and Southampton will have really strong teams for this level next season. I can't see how Southampton will be any weaker than they were last season when they hit 87 points. A deduction for Leicester would be nice but imagine they are going to be scoring 90+ points pre-deduction.
Minimum expectations for next year…. on 13:53 - May 20 with 723 views | J2BLUE | The team will be fine. We will very likely challenge at the top end of the table. The fans are slightly more worrying. Some of the biggest Town fans on here are suddenly incredibly negative. This season was the correction in the bull run. The future is bright. We will spend and add some steel and experience. Far too much is being made of the four games against Leicester/Southampton. Using it as some sort of evidence our squad has lost their bottle is just the sort of nonsense fans come out with. The final whistle on Sunday can't come soon enough. Some people need to go away, have a little reset and come back ready for an exciting season. This fashionable negativity needs to be stamped out. By all means criticise but some people are just looking for any reason to bash the team and club now.

Brilliantly summed up. Thank you. We really have some bizarre reactions from elements of our support. People saying terrible things about Delap and Hutch, saying this season has been a complete disgrace etc...All of it nonsense. People saying Hirst can't be first choice striker too. Of course he can!!! Are they blind?

As someone said yesterday, there's been weird self-hating nonsense going on for much of the season. Think a section just prefer it that way.

Minimum expectations for next year…. on 14:56 - May 20 with 616 views | _clive_baker_ | Agree that a points target is probably the best barometer of our season. We could have a fantastic campaign and still miss out if 2 clubs have a better one, in which case fair enough. 90+ isn't unreasonable, we've got the parachute money and we'll have relatively big crowds at Championship level and decent revenues outside of TV money. On top of that we've got a squad of players that should be highly competitive at Championship level. Appreciate what some are saying about morale and momentum but I dare say Burnley and Sheffield United didn't have a huge amount of that themselves either. A fast start is vital IMO, if we're in the top 4 after 10 games I'll have a very high confidence level that we can get promoted. We've got the muscle memory from last time within the wider group / staff and we've added a lot of quality. There's work to do this summer to shape it into a confident and coherent side which we've not really seen this season owing to injuries and the quality of opposition, but we should be able to do that at the level below. Aside from the 2 we're going down with I really don't see a lot to be worried about, especially if Sheffield United win the PO Final which I hope they do for selfish reasons.
Minimum expectations for next year…. on 16:02 - May 20 with 559 views | LankHenners | Can't believe the internal target will be anything other than top 2, perhaps one better than that. The ownership plus Ashton and McKenna will be fiercely ambitious and see this as a bounce back opportunity they can't pass up, and hopefully our summer business will reflect that. Best thing we can do is get off to a strong start which reminds people of our relative quality so we don't end up with unnecessarily tense atmospheres at every game.

This is correct. Unfortunately, we currently look reminiscent of that. We need to get back to playing as a team and do so quickly. If the likes of Clarke, Philogene and Szmodics could play in the team how they did for their previous clubs alongside Chaplin, Hirst, Broadhead, Burns, etc doing the same, we should win the league at a canter. My fear is that we are currently far more like the Leeds of 2 seasons ago.

Minimum expectations for next year…. on 17:10 - May 20 with 451 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | We spent 130-140M and will have parachute money. The Championship is bang average and most parachute sides (if not all) from last season won't be involved. Leicester look a bit of a mess and may well have a deduction. How is it harsh? Owners will be in same mindset I believe. [Post edited 20 May 17:12]

Minimum expectations for next year…. on 11:03 - May 20 by ketton_itfc | I’m more reserved on it and less confident than I was after promotion to Champ. KMc has to form a new squad and deal with more expectation. In L1 we saw it wasn’t easy being a big gun and it won’t be different in Champ although the quality in the Champ compared to EPL looks night and day. As long as we get that spine sorted in summer we’ll be ok but if we don’t replace Delap then I think it could be a rocky few months. |
That makes absolutely no sense outside the continuity of the starting 11. We got promoted players such as Mass, Harry Clarke and were bringing on the likes of Harness, since then we have just spent 140 odd million. We can't spend all season moaning about the gap of the Champ to PL and then not acknowledge we are getting similar financial benefits now. We should be firm favorites for promotion.
Minimum expectations for next year…. on 17:44 - May 20 with 385 views | Blue_Heath | Target has to be win the league given we finished second out of teams in the league next season. That would mark progress, of course deducting Leicester 9 points will help this considerably. No point aiming for top six, aim for the title. Big summer ahead, let's see some early midfield beasts in the building please.

We’ll know when his time is up. It’s very rare you see someone so measured and calm in pressers after loads of defeats. Saturday was as annoyed as I’ve seen him, and he was hardly ranting or raving. He’s totally in control of his emotions with emotional intelligence that’s off the charts. Compare him to say someone like Russell Martin, where you could see the cracks widen under pressure and watch him unravel. As soon as he starts being erratic in pressers and showing those sorts of cracks, or just loses that optimistic side, we’ll know it’s getting beyond him and it’ll be time to part ways.
