I think it was obvious the club were hacked-off that our interest had leaked on the MX side and wanted to play it down to avoid showing their hand too early.

Not necessarily. Most 'big' PL clubs have done a lot of business or have good quality squads where he wouldn't be a regular starter. We are tipped for an immediate return which is probably is very appealing to players with no English experience early on in their career.
