Azon on 14:58 - Oct 1 by ThatMuhrenCross | Predictably, this has received a backlash. What you get for sticking your head above the parapet I guess! To be clear, I'm not looking to dig a player out and I hope as much as anyone that he comes good. I'm just struggling to figure out what he brings and what his game is at the moment.... |
You do know he's played 113 minutes for us and that those have been his first minutes in English football?

Azon on 15:31 - Oct 1 with 624 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | Watched it back. I actually like the way he puts himself about, he doesn't look 100% fit yet but the lad is trying and playing with total strangers. Like I don't think we should be shocked with all the changes last night the link up wasn't always there. They were also fairly physical.

Azon on 15:20 - Oct 1 by The_Flashing_Smile | We won 2-1 on Saturday. In what way were Pompey "already beaten"?! Bit weird mental gymnastics to try and say the effort wasn't as good as it was. |
It was a ridiculous comment wasn't it.

Yes, because its a pretty moronic post.
Azon on 16:02 - Oct 1 with 504 views | Nutkins_Return | Is this a parody. I swear it feels word for word like a Mcateer thread from before! Or maybe even a Philogene from before. If it's Parody I can't decide if it's great or still awful. If this is serious then I'm embarrassed for you.

Azon on 15:00 - Oct 1 by EuanTown | Much when he is up to speed. Lack of fitness and understanding of the McKenna way. Will come good, and not had much game time. |
You could say the same for most of the team, they don’t seem to have a clue and half of them were here last season and still don’t seem to understand Mckennas game plan.

Azon on 15:06 - Oct 1 by Dubtractor | Remember a month ago when Matusiwa looked absolutely lost in his debut against Birmingham? And how he now looks a rolls Royce midfielder? Maybe just consider that most players don't hit the ground running at a new club, especially those coming from a different style of football. |
Which has been the case for the vast majority of new players under McK, but some of these people learn nothing.

Azon on 14:48 - Oct 1 by ThatMuhrenCross | Incorrect, he's been here over a month, has played in four games. So far, his best moment is hitting the post against a team that was already beaten. |
Oh god it was serious wasn't it!!!!! Think he's looked really good in the cameos. Wasn't a great night for him yesterday but he was industrious and didn't give defenders a minute. He's a little terror of a striker with good touch and he puts his body on the line to score goals. Genuinely can't imagine feeling the need to post your OP or the this on someone first start in a new country!

Azon on 16:21 - Oct 1 with 428 views | FrimleyBlue | Signs are there. He really does remind me of counago so much He too spent his first games with us clutching his head moaning about contact etc. It took a little while for him to get used to English football.

Azon on 16:36 - Oct 1 with 389 views | WolfieAtTheBack | He will come good once he gets his head round it all and he is not our player so we can send him back if it does not work out. (File along with Akpom).

Azon on 16:50 - Oct 1 with 355 views | mparkyn | In the second half just outside the City box he went down looking for a free kick and the ball came straight back to him and he wasn't even looking !!. Shocking

Azon on 16:51 - Oct 1 with 350 views | Churchman | Your first phrase is a polite way of writing him off. It’s no different to phrases such as: ‘she’s got a great personality’ (but fell out of the ugly tree hitting every branch on the way down). ‘I don’t mean to be rude but’ (I do mean to be rude and I’m going to be). ‘No offence’ (every offence I can muster). ‘If it’s any consolation’ (there isn’t any and isn’t meant to be. Get that boot in!). ‘I’m not being funny’ (insult to follow) ‘I always speak my mind’ (I’ll be as rude, stupid and boorish as I like and hide behind allegedly being honest) As for loanee Azon, I’ve not seen enough of him to form an opinion yet and given he’s only 22 and been in a foreign country 2 minutes, I’d have thought a little more time might be an idea.
Azon on 16:52 - Oct 1 with 350 views | homer_123 | I wonder what response you may have had had you positioned your question differently? By that, could you pull out some positives from what you have seen, whilst asking what others see in Azon? For example: the below asks a similar question but the framing of the question is different... "Having watched Azon so far, his work rate and intensity is there, clearly needs to adapt to the English game and pace of the championship. Seems very happy to get stuck in and put himself about. I've not seen enough just yet to see what he's going to bring in comparison to Hirst - what are peoples thoughts?"

Azon on 16:54 - Oct 1 with 340 views | Len_Brennan | As we've seen with Hirst, the centre forward in a McKenna team is not brought in to be a 20+goal a season 'fox in the box' striker, it's more about the all over link play with the attacking options around him. I remember an early interview with Hirst, where he said he was happy with his performances despite a lack of goals, because the manager had told him that he was doing exactly what he wants him to do, & the goals will come. There was plenty of discussion on here about how Delap wasn't really a good fit for this side, despite his excellent goal return, in the Premier League, because he was too selfish & it affected the general play & success of the team. The club has tracked Azon for some time & the manager wanted/wants him in his squad due to the attributes he has. I like the look of him & think he'll come good. He is a marked upgrade on Ali.

Azon on 15:20 - Oct 1 by _clive_baker_ | He's young, he's moved to a new country and in to a very difficult league, arguably the hardest level he's played at. Like Egeli he'll need time to adapt and adjust. There might be questions around whether going into the season with only 2 out and out 9's including him is / was the right call, but that's not on Ivan. Personally I would've liked some additional and more proven competition for the role, but we are where we are. |
I think that’s the issue. There’s been huge clamour over the summer to spread the recruitment network and here is one downside…the need for time and patience. These arguably are going to be in short supply when you’ve been signed as next in line to our main striker. We really need someone in that role who can hit the ground running. I just cant see him atm getting that run of games until Hirst gets injured. That is a concern for me

I believe Dennis Bergkamp scored in his 8th match when he first came to England. He netted his first after just 645 minutes.

closer to home, pablo took 20 games to score his first goal, now is seen as something of a club legend (and almost as good as kuqi!)

6 minutes according to twtd... Watford 1-2 Town 27th Sep 2003 19:13A debut goal from loan striker Shefki Kuqi and a late stunner from Jim Magilton saw Town come from behind to beat Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road. After a first half where neither side impressed, Scott Fitzgerald put the home team ahead before the Blues took control and deservedly claimed the three points. 0
