Suffolk folk are stoic, solid, dependable. Slow to criticise. That's why we've had relatively few managers and why the majority have never really hounded either them or the owners ... even when we had the Evans orchestrated decline.
But the other side of that coin is we're not loud, excitable, or fickle.
At least not the 14,000 die hards.

McKenna will eventually come to understand that. Or may be not.. he's not exactly wedded to us or it seems us to him.

At the moment the fan base is not enamoured of the team, the players or even the wider club.... it's manifested by how few songs there are for any of the players. We've even stopped singing Super Keiron McKenna..... I wonder why?

He obviously hasn’t looked at the history of the club.
Doesn’t he realise ITFC fans are zombies?

Still have the cheek to take a dig at the fans coming off the back of two very poor games - today looked a repeat of the Charlton game all huff and puff with no end product until the J Clarke goal.

If the team has no sense of urgency, play aimless sideways and backwards tippy tappy at the speed of my grandmother then I don't see how the performance on the pitch is going to whip the crowd into a frenzy of noise.

McK should thank his lucky stars he's coaching Ipswich, he should try and experience the atmosphere at the King Power, St Mary's, London Stadium, Molineux et al right now boos and vulgarities included if he thinks this PR is "difficult"

I don't think KM realises how "lucky" he is to be managing us in the Gamechanger loadsamoney era rather than the Evans spendnomoney era. Although lucky isn't the right word. When he was looking for his first manager job and Ashton O'Leary and Gamechanger were looking for a young technical coach for their first appointment as manager it was the perfect match. KM wouldn't have touched us with a bargepole if the club didn't have money to spend.

Talk about acoustics all you like, the crowd was not in it today, but IMHO, it was simply a wary and wounded crowd that still had Tuesday night fresh in the memory, no more, no less.

Flat all game. Was 65 minutes before the crowd made any decent noise.

The crowd not the issue here tho.

Find his starting XI and stick to it. Do your subs to affect the game.

Oh and buy a 9 with a decent touch / hold up play in the January window

It was hard work watching that. Whether it was the early kick-off, Tuesday night or the colder temperatures, the atmosphere seemed flat even before the game. Approaching the ground, even in the pub it seemed quieter and more subdued.

Whilst that doesn't help the team, the match also didn't help the atmosphere. It was dull, neither team really playing all that well. The sarcastic cheers were completely unnecessary though, as was the "we've got the ball" chants on Tuesday. As someone who sits in the family areas in the Alf Ramsey end of the West Stand I find it incredibly difficult how quiet our fans are.

I’d say all of that, even the colder temperatures playing a small part maybe - I find I just don’t have the same energy outside when it’s cold in autumn, despite it being bright and sunny.

Not so much a thing in real winter when you expect it, it’s this transition/adjustment period from summer warmth that’s an issue. Maybe related to the aging crowd!

We’ve always been a reactive crowd and unfortunately never a hostile place to play but the North Stand is really quiet these days, outside of a derby or a huge game. At least it never really comes across great on the TV. No noise, no decent old school songs, quicker to moan than get behind them during tight games. Even the game I was at against Chelsea, Woolfie was trying to get them going first half. A shadow of its former self really. Not sure if everyone is just in their 50s and tired these days lol.

Then the A block lot, obviously credit for trying but I hate the orchestrated drum stuff.

It’s a shame because for sure teams like Leeds had a massive home advantage at this level.
[Post edited 25 Oct 16:16]

I don’t know how far you’re going back for our former self, but we were known as being quiet in the 80s. We have days when it’s bouncing of course but overall we tend to be a quiet bunch. The away matches I’ve been to this season have been very quiet considering the fantastic numbers we take. It’s a bit chicken and egg though - there’s not been much to cheer.

Yes they do. That’s the whole idea. They want Hirst out of the club. Short memories.

Why do you say people want him out of the club

I think he has a place in the squad but I'm not of the opinion he's a regular starter. Our squad changed had imo moved on from needing a forward like hirst every week. We need someone who can finish well but can also create their own chances. Hirst can't do that.
I love hirst always have done but I'm not blind to his struggles this season. No matter how many games he plays he won't ever be that sort of striker imo.

But as a finisher for that final 30 I think perfect due to the energy he brings.

He can't be surprised.

0-0 at HT after Tuesday is nervy. 9 changes. 2 injuries and another 70 minutes of hirst having a mare. Poor bloke he's just not with it this season. Love the guy but doesn't mean I can just sit and watch him struggle and think it's OK he'll do something good in a minute.

As KM said himself. The players need to make the crowd love them. Just like if you score goals and make a party atmosphere you'll get one.

I believe the last three subs were later than KM wanted due to the two injuries.

We only had one more sub window to use and wanted to make three effective subs to change the attacking options.

I do think we would have seen a couple earlier, if we hadn’t had the injuries.

When you win 8 in 49 league games. And when we have to watch the same players barely put in a shift and the same players make unforced error after error. And when we have to wait until the magical 70 mark because you're unable (unless forced) to make changes, then what do you expect?

Yet another terrible choice of a first 11.

You're a God but you and everyone involved since August 2024 have no clout how to dictate how the fans should be on a lunchtime kick off.

But not in his usual consistent and lengthy manner… he left the pitch earlier than usual

Sly duties but I think he’s probably a bit p!ssed at the ironic cheers on the subs (despite only have one window left) and the general negative jibes towards Hirst and others coming from the west stand

Teams confidence is down, it’s a huge win, and I think McKenna had asked for and wanted more from the crowd

Who can blame him?

As for the atmos I though it did improve after the goal and when we had three really good attacks

This, and might I add McKenna, should thank his lucky stars that he is not at Carrow Rd, as he would have been hounded him out last season. Poor form from McKenna, not clapping the fans and then criticising them. We have shown incredible support for him over the last year or so, when there has been precious little to support, and that includes this season.
Sunderland have shown that not just surviving but taking the fight to the Premier League can be done. Sunderland has demonstrated that our recruitment was found lacking.
Whether that's McKenna or Ashton or a combination of both, who knows, but he needs to drop his attitude.

Hes only saying it how it is. The atmos was flat and some elements of the crowd were less than supportive. This all quite understandable given the last year, the high expectations people have and how weve started the season. Its hard to get that enthused by a 1230 kick off and a game coming off the back off a home loss with several players quite out of form and the various changes that keep being made which isnt helping consistency of play. Anyway, supporters should support, not make PR feel more like an away ground.

Don't repeat 'apparently' stuff that you didn't actually see,

He clapped every stand, but it was very brief and muted. He would usually do a bit of a walk round the ground, but stayed near the middle of the pitch.

PR crowd can get a bit techy at times, maybe a bit unnecessarily at times imo.

Nevertheless, never like seeing manager refer to these sort of things, feel like it creates tension which can be avoided.

Not really a big issue, crowd was largely flat, and a bit techy, so understand what KMc was saying.

This.

The ball went back to Walton early in the 2nd half and he stood on it and watched what was developing in front of him for maybe 6 or 7 seconds. The crowd, mainly the North stand started shouting at him to get rid of it. At the time it confused me, as no Albion player was coming near him, so started to wonder if some in our support don’t understand the 8 second rule.

Every time we played a loose ball, especially in the 2nd half the noise from all four corners of the ground was significant and at times louder than when we were having good possession, I’m used to hearing exasperated groans from the PR crowd, but in this game in particular it was more of a collective, aggressive “for focks sake”. For most of the 2nd half the place was totally silent and, it felt like the entire place could turn if we went a goal behind, then we have Hirst booed off by sections of the crowd, on top of some players getting criticism from supporters all season.

Then when McKenna mentions this, in as low a level as it’s possible to do, some get all riled up in a moment of “how dare he” energy. Whether people like it or not, compared to how Portman Road has been over the last 3 seasons, as a support we’re currently a pretty poor imitation of ourselves and this club has depended on that support to get them through. Think about that night vs Southampton, without the support that night we absolutely do not end up 3-2 winners.

I’m sure I’ll get a few ‘players need to earn it’ or ‘the spine of the team has been ripped out’ type responses. And yep you’re right they absolutely need to earn it but for gods sake, give them a chance to do so. And that spine of the team? Heroes everyone of them, of course. But at the same time, they all had a season in the Prem and with the exception of the two we sold in the summer, all showed that they weren’t good enough at that level. All those heroes were one promotion away from 80% saying they need to be moved on. So why not do it now.

We’ve got a new side. It’ll come together, keep the faith, support these players and find new heroes

It's really difficult to get that balance

you need support to get going, you need the team to get going to get the desire to show support.

The support of the town is there when ST holders and other successful people get their tickets for the game, buying food, drink, merch etc, that's support in itself.

Sitting watching the game, I remember when I used to go, if the ground was buzzing, i'd be singing, clapping all sorts, but if it was a dab 0-0 it was quiet, I just hugged myself to keep myself warm and just watched the game.

I think there are certain things that have changed since 23/24 season, you mention walton for example, he kept hold of the ball alot more yesturday imo that historicially, someone mentioned it during the week, one of the advantages of walton being back in was that he loved to throw the ball out and get going again, i don't feel he did this yesturday and we were allowing brom to get set again before we slowly brought the ball out.

I think the biggest issue between that balance needed is that under let's call it, new ipswich, we haven't as yet seen a peak KM ipswich goal. Pass pass pass pass goal, even yesturdays was a high press, keeper save open net for clarke.

When you think back to the goals under KM in 23/24, many started back with hladky and ended up in the goal opposite.

This is why i was partly suprised by KMs after game mention, he himself spoke of the need of the players to get the fans onside, that's the same around every ground imo.

I think we've scored as a team something like 3 outfield goals across the team if you ignore philogene and clarke. ( That 3 maybe 4, im not 100% sure) .

At the moment, I don't think KM quite knows his best 11, that's fair, like he said to him this was matchday 7.

So i think once we get a regular team going, some exciting football, some prime town goals under KM, everything will start looking better again.

Don't make this into something that it isn't. All McKenna was doing was defending his team. Surely you can accept that the atmosphere wasn't conducive to helping the players perform.

And Ashton is b_ggered both ways. Criticised whenever he makes a public appearance. Criticised if he stays out of the way.

Heard people getting really annoyed especially second half as we failed to move the ball forward and made mistakes after mistake especially on the final third. The Hirst substitute was cheered when he came off. I'm very critical of the team but get behind them when there. I can understand the frustration though. No discernable change of plan other than changing personnel and a real lack of creativity.

For a side that has a real lack of creativity, we are second or third in the xG table (depending on which source you use) so compared to the rest of the division we really aren't lacking in creativity. We've not taken our chances as well as we need to and we've been sloppy at the back at key times but the characterisation of us from the negative nellies on here is quite a way off reality. We need to improve still and if/when that happens we'll be excellent but we're already doing enough to win most of our games, we just haven't been clinical enough in both boxes, and that's despite not yet getting out of third gear this season.
