I don’t understand how Still’s sacking changes that statistic given that Southampton have dispensed with a manager on two other occasions in the last 11 months.

| Will Still sacked on 19:57 - Nov 2 by Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | That coached some of Europes top players* Wasn’t Will Still from the numbers school? I’m fed up of certain organizations and clubs in sports across the spectrum that don’t stop banging on about data & analytics as the decision making for everything. “Data led group” Data ignores context. If this player is doing it in league x and against said opposition it won’t always translate in a different league, with different players, playing a different standard of football etc. I suspect that’s been Norwich’s downfall. Same with NFL drafting, it’s annoying to me. Data needs to be used as a tool when you find the and use the most valuable aspects of it, not as be all and end all. [Post edited 2 Nov 19:57]

I believe he was an analyst before a manager, not necessarily data driven but it's a growing field in the game for sure I guess the information is there and you do with it, what you will

I think the guy who got the ‘assist’ for Tchamadeu’s goal for Stoke yesterday must be hoping the data is still pretty basic.

I'm glad it's not just me who thought that.

| Will Still sacked on 19:51 - Nov 2 by SitfcB | Yep. Changing a manager is such an upheaval and doesn’t always have the desired effect. Of course if it it absolutely needed it needs to be done but not after a loss here and there! |
It helps to have made a good choice in the first place but hierarchies seem to lack awareness that every sacking is effectively them saying they got their recruitment wrong in the first place.

Now we have to ask will Will Still still be in management in England in his next job? Does an English club have the will still to appoint Will Still?

| Will Still sacked on 23:31 - Nov 2 with 945 views | Cheltenham_Blue | "Rubén Martinez, Clément Lemaitre and Carl Martin have also left their positions at the club" Still Will Still, but also half of Will Still's coaching staff. So with Will Still Still gone, it looks like the replacement for Will Still, will be in by Monday, and maybe Southampton will no longer still play like they did for Will Still. Or maybe they still will? [Post edited 2 Nov 23:33]

That is fking hilarious. Big Frank gives up top of the table Coventry for only just better than Norwich Southampton. Delusion is spreading.

Or will Will Still still have the will to still continue his managerial career?

It hasn't worked out and its not as if he's got credit in the bank at Saints... They've a good squad and should be doing better.. We're lucky to have some level of stability at our club. Considering the upheaval. And considering what's going on around the division. Big part of why Cov' are doing well. Be surprised if Lampard goes there. But the link might disrupt them a little...
| Will Still sacked on 06:27 - Nov 3 with 767 views | Bramidan | I suppose this is quoting data in a certain way but high turnover of managers = poorly run club at executive level. You appointed him, his sacking is a reflection of your previous decision. | | | |

Do Saints have a good squad though? Remember that stat which was floating around here about us after the Charlton defeat, 7 wins in 48 games. Well Southampton currently have 4 wins from their last 51 matches. The risk of a hangover going into this season was always going to be a strong one. I can only presume they’ve panicked given that they’re 5 points behind 17th place, already.

As Cloughie once said "If a Chairman sacks a manager he initially appointed, he should go as well". It's as true now as it was then.

| Will Still sacked on 19:38 - Nov 2 by JammyDodgerrr | Incredible to see the clamour for him over many years to come over here, because he's trendy, learnt from FM etc, and now been sacked within 15 games. Hope we never become a club like this. |
McKenna was a risky, left field appointment & when he got the Town job, most of us said "WHO?" But that turned out all right. Yes, Still was a risky appointment, although he had experience at 4 clubs in Europe. He's had a shocking start at Southampton & they will be desperate to bounce back to the PL. Will they now go for the tried & trusted EPL journeyman type? If McKenna had left in the summer & our new man had us in 4th bottom place, many of us would be clamouring for his removal.

Were they his staff that came with him? R5 were saying on Saturday that one of the challenges he had was he didn't have his own team so he was having to sell his ideas to the coaching staff and then the players. That sounds like a tough gig to me.

| Will Still sacked on 11:14 - Nov 3 with 347 views | OldFart71 | The merry-go-round goes on. If we look at ourselves and how successful the club has been over the years we will no doubt deduce that despite having had a few fantastic managers in Sir Alf, Sir Bobby , George Burley and now Kieran McKenna it can also be said we have had quite a few who to be polite have been less than satisfactory, The success or lack of it cannot always be blamed on the manager although it's his responsibility to motivate the team, pick the team and suggest who the club recruits. But then he is also restricted by what the owner will allow him to purchase and as we saw with ME the first few managers were given adequate funds, but as time went on the funds got less and less and yet these people still expects a manager to deliver. So it's not always the manager who is at fault and sometimes players aren't always putting it all in for certain managers. | | | |

It shows how things can get messy, very quickly. Given our slow start. I think we've done well to stop any real rot setting in and find our feet again. Not an expert on their squad. But, I'd assume that (on paper), they've got enough in there to be threatening play offs , at least. Especially looking at who is up there atm. They could probably do with a motivator type manager. Rather than a young, trendy, technician type, imo. Will Still comes across as a tad dour, imo.... And not the uplifting presence they may require..

They've also sold two of their best players since playing us, that's not ideal you have to say? They have signed Fellows and Asaz but probably a drop in quality ultimately?
