The split in the far-right vote 04:10 - Feb 18 with 19360 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

Great to see. Albeit Lowe on Twitter is disturbing.

Anyone on here willing to admit they would vote Restore? Makes Farage and his lot look moderate in comparison some of that nazi sh** coming from Lowe.

Nah, not even Russ Abbott and the Grumbleeeeds performing at the end of the pier could make Yarmouth great again

Yes, the town's definitely gone downhill since I saw Cannon and Ball on the pier in the early 80s.

Just read the article about the defectors from reform to restore. Reform give themselves away.

A Reform UK source said: "Restore are welcome to our dregs. Let's not forget that six of these councillors were expelled."

They added: "If this is Restore's bar for councillors then it must be very low indeed."

Does that not imply that they already know how low the bar is with their own councillors but somehow restore have gone worse?!

It seems like every one has to agree with every single part of everything these days to support a political party - no compromise or coalition can be made.

It's why nothing will change

I would think Lowe's blackshirts will have as much effect on the Reform vote as Alex Salmond's Alba Party did on the SNP.

Benters, I know you see yourself as a patriot so I'm curious as to how you reconcile that with supporting a party whose leader and members would have been on the side of the fascists back in the 30s. Farage and his ilk were the sort of people who'd have been pushing for us to form an alliance with Hitler, not go to war with him. This isn't fantasy stuff either, we had the likes of Oswald Moseley who were politically close to someone like Farage in terms of beliefs. We had the Blackshirts, violent thugs hiding behind "marches" to cause disorder, similar to the EDL types and those "protesting" (AKA rioting) after the Southport tragedy. You had the Daily Mail and the ancestor of its current owner cheering all this on from the sidelines, just as they do now for Farage and Reform's politics.

I'm curious as to how you manage to see yourself as a patriot while also supporting a party that is far-right when our country has a proud history of standing up to the far-right, not ushering them into power.

I’m far from being a patriot thanks.

Ai, bots, algorithms etc and their effects will be interesting. My Facebook feed is full of Gorton and Denton posts from "people" arguing all sorts, I'm not a member of any of them.

I hope these arrogant elites tear each other apart frankly. They're such soft, thin skinned pircks they'll descend into slander and lawsuits soon enough.

It will be interesting to know if the Teemu MAGA tactics will translate into real votes.

I think Rommy is correct. With every party I try to look at the things they are proposing and weigh up the good bits I like and the bad bits i dont like and then decide who I shall vote for. Im a floating voter and not a die hard for any party. There is one thing I do agree with from Reform and that is stop the boats as everyone knows but that is about it. I could never vote for Farage. He would bring this country to its knees. The biggest charlatan we have in British politics by a long way.

I'm kind of with you in a way. As a disillusioned natural Conservative voter, on the libertarian side, there is plenty about Reform that should appeal to me. Not all of it however - as I said previously they have a strange mix of libertarian and authoritarian positions.

I think "stop the boats" is a total red herring which sadly has become the focus for all from Labour and rightwards of them. Illegal immigration in general is only a small element causing friction but gets all the attention. Our whole system needs an overhaul and careful attention to be smarter and more dynamic to reflect the needs of our economy and labour market. "send them back" 'aint the answer (although in the case of convicted criminals of non-British origins, quite happy to go this way).

I am not a Farage fan and do not trust him. I think they have more talented and capable genuine people in the leadership ranks that would make better statesmen. But Farage gets the media attention and the cult following for some reason.

Fringe parties of the left and right always collapse with infighting and further splits - look at Corbyn/Sultana's lot too. The best they manage is a 'blackmail' effect forcing the larger parties to shift positions. This pattern might have been about to end if Reform got their act together, and I would expect Lowe's Restore effort to crash and burn pretty quickly if not for the fact Musk has been backing him.

I also do not want the Conservative party to be permanently dead and buried. That would be a shame and I think bad for the country in general. I want them to learn a few lessons and rally, not sure Kemi has the chops for it. But it is likely I will stick with them come election time.

I guess what I really want is a return to the days of the main parties being 'broad churches' with room for a range of views allowing most voters to find common ground with one or the other (with the Lib Dems a third choice if they really aren't happy with options Red or Blue). But Boris's purge of the Europhiles and Starmer's purge of the left have set something of a new precedent that may be hard to undo.

You think Farage cares about Reform? I doubt he even wants to be PM.

More likely he will play it out for another year or two then engineer and exit and go back to grifting on the circuit where the money is. Trying to put forward other people who can carry Reform like he did yesterday seems to be the first step.

SB

I'm not so sure about that. From what I saw he didn't even let any of the others answer a question at yesterday's "launch". I'd imagine he and his backers see Downing Street as the ultimate grift, much like Trump in the White House.

I think we will need to wait and see.

I don't think he has the appetite for endless meetings with foreign representatives, conferences, committee's etc.

Being the PM would be too much work for him, he's barely willing to be an MP.

I hope it's a situation that never arises and he's never in a position to be PM.

Yes there is a big difference between Farage and Trump when it comes to work ethic.

I agree he doesn't have either the work ethic nor the eye for detail to be PM, nor does he have a thick enough skin. He's incredibly touchy and sensitive to scrutiny. I just hope it doesn't take him becoming PM to realise it himself.

Reform have just confirmed they will restore the two child benefit cap. This would return hundreds of thousands of kids to poverty.

Also said they would look to slash the minimum wage for under 21s.

One of their 'shadow cabinet' was shown up for what he is last night on Newsnight too. About time the BBC actually scrutinised Reform

I had a guest stay last weekend, I asked him at breakfast the next morning what brought him to Yarmouth in February. He was here to see Rupert Lowe talking about his new party - some kind of meeting on the pier, aparently.

Anyway, this guy - in his 70's, a political writer/commentator - has written several books on politics (and how to fix everything), so knows everything, and is 100% right about everything - you know the type.

Anyway, had a interesting, albeit slightly worrying chat for the next 45 mins or so, with him praising Farage, Trump, talking about the "1m+ illegal immigrants" in the UK, muslim ghettos and how lives will be lost when the police/immigration are finally allowed in to clear them.

He wouldn't accept any other views, he was right, end of discussion.

I think I'm quite a reasonable guy, more left/liberal than on the right that's for sure, but listening to people like him just makes me lose hope, unless of course this is just the older generation, whose views will die out with them.
