Lots to choose from but I’ll go for Adrian Paz (although that was after I’d got over the disappointment of it not being Batistuta as initially reported). For the first few games he got a free pass as he was settling in but it then became increasingly clear he either just wasn’t that good or at least he wasn’t right for us. He had a few good moments but not enough. Thankfully Taricco who came with him more than made up for it eventually. |  |

Nigel Reo Coker, may have been me having some bias around his time at Wet Spam rather than then Villa and Bolton but he seemed like exactly the kind of experienced midfielder General we needed, he'd (i think) captained Spam to the FA cup final a couple seasons before and played plenty of PL football.

But for me to the list of dross I’ll add Sam Parkin.
He had such a good record at Swindon or wherever it was and I was looking forward to seeing him rip it up in the Championship. 20 mins into his home debut it was obvious he was so far out of his depth he needed a periscope.
Edit: somebody beat me to it on Parkin. So I’ll go Ebanks-Blake. Only in his 20s, McCarthy knew him at Wolves where he had a good spell for a while. Bit of Mick resurrection and we’d have a gem on the cheap. Shame he’d eaten his way to Ipswich and by then the shorts he needed were big enough to mount on the main mast of HMS Victory. My shout would be Tommy Oar. Signed by McCarthy to add that bit of quality to an efficient, workmanlike competitive team, but other than a decent showing Vs Man United in the league cup i dobt remember any of his 9 (nine) appearances for us before he swiftly made his exit. |  | | |

Think relatively to what we needed at the time James Norwood and Alan Judge were a huge disappointment. Not that they were particularly terrible relative to the team they were in but their chunky wages represented basically the only significant investment we made the Summer after going down. Judge we even turned down a decent fee for straight after signing him. We desperately needed both to work out and neither really did at the level necessary. |

Jonathan Parr being "an upgrade on Tyrone Mings" was a personal favourite.
Although he never signed, Curtis "Like Sh1ttu with the footwork of JET" Tilt is one I will still be laughing about in 30 years.
