| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? 10:12 - Aug 28 with 4557 views | CopfordBlue | I don’t mean a free transfer from the League of Ireland that didn’t cut it. I’m talking about a player with some hype around them and that you were really excited when they signed that ended up being a let down? Lots to choose from but I’ll go for Adrian Paz (although that was after I’d got over the disappointment of it not being Batistuta as initially reported). For the first few games he got a free pass as he was settling in but it then became increasingly clear he either just wasn’t that good or at least he wasn’t right for us. He had a few good moments but not enough. Thankfully Taricco who came with him more than made up for it eventually. | |

It didn't help having his arm snapped by Michael Caine.

| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 12:25 - Aug 28 with 776 views | itfc_bucks | I'm old enough to remember signing Karic after he'd had a great Euros. Presume we got his useless twin. Finidi probably did the most harm over the course of his stay with us. Throw in the unlucky Sam Parkin - genuinely thought he'd be a star, fast tracked to the EPL, in a similar fashion to Dean Ashton. The Marcus Evans era was stunning for costly flops, but I'd have to say Grant Leadbitter and his inability to clear the first man on any corner he took would be my standout from that period. | |

Thing is, I recall Hull fans warned us... Because they'd been warned by Fulham fans, who had been warned by Wigan fans. Did we warn MK Dons?

| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 10:29 - Aug 28 by BlueandTruesince82 | Nigel Reo Coker, may have been me having some bias around his time at Wet Spam rather than then Villa and Bolton but he seemed like exactly the kind of experienced midfielder General we needed, he'd (i think) captained Spam to the FA cup final a couple seasons before and played plenty of PL football. He was cr@p. Plain and simple. Grant Ward but only due to the let down after such a huge debut |
NRC was awful, and then had the gall to blame everyone with a comment along the lines of “I didn’t come here to be embarrassed every week”.

Can remember the hype of us beating other clubs to an exciting young signing that seemed destined to be going towards the top, but never did it enough for me and seemed to fade away and has done nothing since leaving.

| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 12:59 - Aug 28 with 655 views | MisterBlue | For me its got to be Lee Chapman - we needed someone to put a bit of effort in and contribute with a few goals, so we get a former league winner. He just looked like he really couldn't be bothered. and as the saying goes "couldn't hit a cows ar$e with a banjo!" | | | |
| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 12:59 - Aug 28 with 652 views | yorkshireblue | Sam Parkin. One of my friends at the time was a massive Swindon fan and absolutely raved about him for years and was absolutely devestated for us of all people. When he scored a great goal in his second(?) game for us and IIRC hit the post in the same game I thought here we go... | | | |

| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 10:36 - Aug 28 by positivity | if it's pound for pound we're talking, then i can't see past ulrich le pen. we could make a profit on muric! |
Good call. When Le Pen came on my dad growled ‘what the hell is that?’’He won’t last five minutes’. How true. But for me to the list of dross I’ll add Sam Parkin. He had such a good record at Swindon or wherever it was and I was looking forward to seeing him rip it up in the Championship. 20 mins into his home debut it was obvious he was so far out of his depth he needed a periscope. Edit: somebody beat me to it on Parkin. So I’ll go Ebanks-Blake. Only in his 20s, McCarthy knew him at Wolves where he had a good spell for a while. Bit of Mick resurrection and we’d have a gem on the cheap. Shame he’d eaten his way to Ipswich and by then the shorts he needed were big enough to mount on the main mast of HMS Victory. My shout would be Tommy Oar. Signed by McCarthy to add that bit of quality to an efficient, workmanlike competitive team, but other than a decent showing Vs Man United in the league cup i dobt remember any of his 9 (nine) appearances for us before he swiftly made his exit.

Out of curiosity what about him did you expect to be decent? Or was it more that you were shocked that we signed him in the first place given how awful he was?

| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 10:16 - Aug 28 by jayessess | Think relatively to what we needed at the time James Norwood and Alan Judge were a huge disappointment. Not that they were particularly terrible relative to the team they were in but their chunky wages represented basically the only significant investment we made the Summer after going down. Judge we even turned down a decent fee for straight after signing him. We desperately needed both to work out and neither really did at the level necessary. |
Tommy Oar. I thought he'd be providing the bullets we needed for Murph and Didz. Instead he did fùck all and then fùcked off.

| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 14:07 - Aug 28 with 484 views | Re_User | The usual suspects have already been mentioned - Paul Taylor, Sam Parkin, Ulrich Le Pen, etc. I’ll go for Luciano Civelli, signed for £1m, sounded like the next big thing, spends 2 years on the treatment table with a knee injury, before being released, having only made 17 appearances. Considering the hype that came with him, could JET be an option too? | | | |
| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 14:35 - Aug 28 with 417 views | J2BLUE | Was going to say Civelli but just beaten to it. This thread has reminded me of some absolute classic TWTDisms over the years where a small but substantial percentage of the board has become convinced that some random player was going to be the next big thing. Jonathan Parr being "an upgrade on Tyrone Mings" was a personal favourite. Although he never signed, Curtis "Like Sh1ttu with the footwork of JET" Tilt is one I will still be laughing about in 30 years. Jonathan Douglas going from being a great free agent signing who was exactly what we needed to looking like he didn't even know he was on a football pitch was a good one. Scott Fraser and Kyle Edwards another two honourable mentions for the sheer amount of hype they generated. | | | |
