The public inquiry — assuming a fair one is indeed able to take place in these screwed-up times — will undoubtedly be brutal. They'll deserve everything they get.

But it wouldn't be brutal you only have to look at the Iraq inquiry and see how Blair got off

I don't this what a case of "whataboutery" exactly - more pointing out that a public enquiry doesn't always result in the fall out some may expect.

Precisely the public inquiry into the Iraq war was a complete whitewash and was basically held for the sake if it and delivered nothing

About the worst thing one could do when checking a source and details is rely on a subsequent twitter nobfest!

Twtderatti...the Tories were 55% in the polls when I last looked, which was around a week ago.

The levels of mad left wingery on here is going through the roof in these times.

Blame the lying communists running China for this mess and the WHO with their duff advice through until March. They are the people to be angry with.

Sorry I mean there are 4-5 posts from the Times at the start....

Boris Johnson skipped five Cobra meetings on the virus, calls to order protective gear were ignored and scientists’ warnings fell on deaf ears

Failings in February may have cost thousands of lives

It would not be until March 2 that Johnson would attend a Cobra meeting about the coronavirus. But by then it was almost certainly too late.

Britain was on course for one of the worst infections of the most deadly virus in more than a century

One day there will inevitably be an inquiry into the lack of preparations during those “lost” five weeks

There will be questions about when politicians understood the severity of the threat, what the scientists told them and why so little was done to equip the NHS

Any inquiry may also ask whether the government’s failure to get to grips with the crisis in those early days had the knock-on effect of the national lockdown being introduced days or even weeks too late, causing many thousands more unnecessary deaths

Nearly five years before there is any calling to account by which time this will be far too long ago in the electorate's memory. All that will matter then is tax cuts and avoiding commie Starmer.

Can you say “Grenfell Tower”? Or “£350M for the NHS”? Or perhaps “Russia Report”?

They’ve been getting away for it for years. And will carry on. I’m starting to think mass scale civil disobedience is the only way anything in this country will change for the better.

Also a "biological threat" inquiry scheduled for last year that was postponed then eventually cancelled because something more important was going on (anyone remember Brexit?)

I suspect he’s referring to the WHO tweet on the 14th Jan reporting there was no evidence of human to human transmission.
