She had a troubled life but in the last interview with her I read - maybe a couple of years back - she seemed to be in a better place.
Such a fantastic talent. Was only listening to some of her stuff a couple of days ago. The raw aggression of her lyrics and her voice then juxtaposed with evident tenderness still blows my mind 30+ years after first hearing the Lion & the Cobra album in the mid 80s.

That song. One of those songs that just transcends musical tastes. Defy anyone to watch that music video and not feel something.
Very sad. Nothing compares to you is one of the first proper songs I learnt on my acoustic guitar and used to sing. Very powerful lyrics and her version of it is phenomenal.

Thief of your Heart from In the Name of the Father is a great song.
I'd say I had forgotten she tore up a picture of the Pope, but I was only 7 or so. However, seeing it again all over twitter it's still such a powerful image.
Lots of tributes paid to her which really add dimension beyond the Nothing Compares 2 U cover.
I can't say I was a massive fan but my Mrs liked her so she was occasionally in the background.
I didn't realise she was abused by her mother until I read of it today, also didn't realise she lost her son through suicide last year.
I knew she had mental issues and to be quite honest given the two bits I mention above, the poor old bird is probably better off where she now is. At least she might hopefully get some peace.
I youtubed a couple of her tracks just now and it was noticeable that 50% of the messages / comments were foreign, all over the world in fact.
Seems she had quite a span. Fair play and RIP.
