Damning insights from Darren Ferguson 13:59 - Feb 10 with 4452 views | unstableblue | So many critical insights into our set-up and Lambert decisions in the below. Darren would get our squad promoted, I'm convinced. ----------------------------Posh boss Darren Ferguson felt his side thoroughly deserved their victory. “We were very good tonight,” Ferguson told the Peterborough Telegraph. “I don’t think anyone from Ipswich would deny we deserved to win. “We started slowly and conceded a sloppy goal and it took us 15 minutes to get going, but once we started getting the ball out wide we really dominated the game. “We actually prepared for a different formation than the one they used, but they played a diamond and I know how to hurt that. “We wanted to exploit them by switching the play and using width. We did it very well in the first half and eventually equalised from an excellent cross and a very good header back across the goalkeeper from Jonno [Jonson Clarke-Harris]. “We started the second half well even though they changed their shape. Joe [Ward] scored a brilliant goal and we had other chances to score. We should have had a penalty for a blatant handball, but we failed to kill them off which was disappointing. “You’re never over-comfortable at 2-1 and Christy Pym has pulled out a big save to stop them equalising late on from the only chance I can remember them mustering. “We should have won by more, but it’s a thoroughly deserved three points and full credit to the lads.”

Whether he does or he doesnt (and I suspect he does) I wonder how much tactical nous we actually have. Damning insights from Darren Ferguson on 14:07 - Feb 10 with 4281 views | IpswichKnight | I’m pleased that it took such a genius and giant of the game like Ferguson to outwit our master tactician. Ferguson must have laughed his c0ck off at our ponderous and porous defence and midfield.
Marcus must read these comments? on 14:46 - Feb 10 with 4017 views | unstableblue | I just think its so black and white that Lambert is not tactically astute, and not setting up the players effectively that Marcus funds!

Damning insights from Darren Ferguson on 15:18 - Feb 10 with 3812 views | jayessess | Compare and contrast. Their manager, not particularly highly regarded in the game, paid far less than Lambert, apparently capable of making adjustment to not only counter-act an unexpected opposition formation but also to recover from a goal down. Our manager, the best paid manager in the division, who apparently hadn't actually watched Peterborough's match on Saturday and assumed they'd knock it long. He then seemingly paid so little attention to the match unfolding in front of him, that he (well, his staff) was still under the illusion that Peterborough had "gone back to front".

PL seems to be unable to change tactics during the games. 1 thing I did like - the strikers waited on the half way line at the oppositions corners. Rather than having all 11 in our penalty area and no out ball. 1and a 1/2yrs in the making!

Damning insights from Darren Ferguson on 15:33 - Feb 10 with 3671 views | Pinewoodblue | Something is seriously wrong at the club when you read your opponent's post match comments and agree with them but then look at official comments from your own team and think WTF. Lambert is trying really hard to get the sack, but his efforts don't seem to work at Ipswich.

The diamond is one of the hardest formations to get right, it needs everyone to be on their game - when it works it's devastatingly effective, but you aren't going to perfect it with the wrong personnel after one day on the training ground!

The dynamic duo could have played any formation and any number of players. They’d still have lost. Individually and collectively they a mile short of being competitive. They should be grateful they didn’t get the hiding they deserved.

You need mobile shutters on either side and we had Dozzell and Judge - Andre is probably the player least suited to that position in the league, if not the world. What baffles me even more is that we tried to play that way against a 3412, which is the exact formation most people would use to counteract a diamond. Amazing stuff.

Point of order. Not everyone knows this, as demonstrated last night.

Damning insights from Darren Ferguson on 18:27 - Feb 10 with 2975 views | Keaneish | To be honest, it’s bloody easy to counteract a diamond and what’s ridiculous about this is Lambert had done his homework, he’d know we employed a diamond when Ferguson was manager in 2011 when we ripped us apart in the 7-1 mauling. Ferguson did exactly the same last night as he did that day. The way we would and should have counteracted his system is with high pressing full backs. PL saw it for to leave them out though despite good performances Saturday. I learnt more at semi-pro level tactically than watching this Town side. PL can’t change games or adapt. He can bring players on and change formations but that’s it.

It's weird, we'd definitely never hire someone with Darren Ferguson's record, so why is the owner happy with someone he can out-think in his sleep?
