By all means get rid of the Chambers, Skuse, Judge and all the other older players but getting rid of the likes of Lankester, Downes and any player under 22 is ridiculous. Even if these players don’t suit PC style of play, they are young enough to adapt roles/position. We have a famous and proud history of bleeding fresh young talent and its under threat, I don’t like it.
Another way of looking at it is that these kids have been failed by the poor standards set by the club and senior players over the past few years. There was undoubted potential there but they are not progressing here and are not of the standard the current manager requires. They need to play to get their careers going again.
The issue could be quality, standards, attitude etc. Ether way, I wish them all the best for the future.

OR, you can see it as an opportunity to bring in a succesful side whilst also opening the doors to other fresh, young talents who won't be kept out of the squad by the 'young' potentials of lankester, Bishop etc.
It is unsettling but I think we've become so accustomed to a culture of mediocrity that we've held some of these players in higher regard than we should.
Let's be in no doubt, we have been an absolute mess of a club for a long time. Fixing it is going to be painful and feels strange but something drastic needs to happen and hopefully is.

In the end JL hasn't pushed on since his injury, he looked amazing before that and very mediocre since. Hopefully he will do well and we have first refusal or a sell on clause.
Dozzell we didn't have a choice and not that fussed to be honest Downes still here, but again if he hands in a transfer request move on. Lankester - sorry but on the back of last season after his injury just didn't look good enough.
Woolfenden is in the 1st team Idris El Mizoni in the 1st team squad Dobra is still here and looks likely to stay based on Phil's latest
We can't breed fresh new talent if it's not good enough...this whole thing of playing players just because they are from our academy is silly if they are not actually improving the team. We've given more chance than ever to academy players over the last few seasons....and we can't even get in the top 6 of L1 and none of them have shown a huge deal. Even Downes looks lost since the transfer stuff of last season and Woolfenden went a bit backwards from his early promise.
Nydam is the only one I'd question, but i think the injury probably has had a big impact unfortunately.

I think we all felt low at that point in time! 0-0 with Wimbledon having lost 3 in a row previously.
However, he felt like that plus then add the last season on top of it. How can this clearout not be a good thing in the OP's eyes?

Still a few more to go yet by all accounts.

Exactly this, people holding these bang average players in high regard and we need to set our sights higher.
They’ve been responsible with our demise along with the owners and terrible management the past few years so it’s right they should all be moved on.

I can see both sides. I can cope with folk like Downes (although I like him) and Dozzell leaving. While they're talented players, what have they achieved here?
I've more an issue with players like Lankester and Dobra (potentially) leaving, simply because we've barely seen them.
Woolfenden is probably somewhere between those two groups.

Problem is, 21 years old, 3 years, 28 games and 3 goals from an attacking winger/forward who looked 10% of the player he was prior to his injury. It's the same with Bish.
If he succeeds, great, we'll likely have a sell on fee involved and we will benefit from it, but we can't keep hold of these 'prospects' when you are rebuilding a side but also other youngsters coming through that need to be looked at.

Also the nature of who owns us now, developing and selling players from a league 1 footing for the high hundred thousands (on a good day) is never going to cut the mustard by way of a return on investment. They need immediate results and promotion. Players that can demonstrate here and now that they're more than good enough for L1. Burns, 26. Evans, 26. Harper, 21 but with recent Championship experience, Siegrist, 29 etc. They don't have time to wait in the hope that players fulfil potential, they need to adopt a much shorter term lens to it. That's no bad thing as supporters who want to see our side competitive at this level and the one above.

It's like people refused to believe it was true.
Downes & Bishop next.
It'll be interesting to see if Dobra gets a chance. I imagine we'll know a lot more a month from now.
I'm still holding out hopes for Downes. Everyone rates him and he's clearly head and shoulders above others so i can only assume it's an attitude / wanting away thing, which has prompted PC to challenge him.
I was half expecting Downes to come out with a similar statement to Dobra and skipper us next season...
I know what you are saying, but like all of us you are making a judgement from the outside looking in and speculating. Perhaps PC has seen things first hand to come to such a conclusive verdict, whether that's through training, matches or something else? I'd have liked to have seen Lankester given a go, but that was based more on what he did when he first got in the first team under PH, not last season where performances were pretty underwhelming. Ultimately, we have to trust PC and his judgement and if JL comes back to haunt us for Cambridge and has a really good season, then good luck to him - that will show PC has got that one wrong, but that's football - they don't always get it right. I'm content to let PC get on with the job in hand and see what develops.
