I hope there isn't a complete meltdown if we fail to win tonight 14:04 - Feb 22 with 2334 viewsN2_Blue

Fingers crossed we win and i think we will.

However between now and end of season there are going to be some games that everyone expects us to win that that we don't.

I've been spot on for predictions in 7 of 8 last results but i have only predicted a haul of 5 points from the next 9....this still takes us to 75 points as we are +1 currently on my predicted total of 74 points.

So although it would be very disappointing i don't think despair is needed tonight if we don't win, but we'd need to definitely win Saturday.

It’s a game on paper you’d look at and hope or might expect us to win. Must go in with the right attitude from the off, another early goal would be terrific to settle everyone down. If you look at their form, they have picked up some very decent results against sides in the top 8 recently. Certainly a tough game, but another like Saturday ,if we are wanting to make the top 6 we need a win and 3 points.

.... still loving your prediction streak, and the new footer.

Tonight may become a mad game and a lottery, but I think getting those Town goals saturday and some gelling between Jackson and wide players will benefit us and we'll get at least 2.... we weren't create enough chances recently

.... BUT I think their manager may shut up shop a bit. They were apparently very open at Wycombe.

But yes a draw would not be the end of the world. Albeit home form is key as per your predictions. I didn't realise you had Morecombe and Fleetwood as draws.

Just imagine if your current +1 (to make your original 74) is +5 come the end of the Fleetwood game!! - fans will start to get very excited. Indeed I suggest if we win tonight and as I predict the gap is reduced to 2 points... PR is going to blow up!

It's impossible to say or justify until the game is played. If we don't turn up, make silly mistakes etc people will get annoyed. If we do what Wycombe did and defend that badly then we will be lucky to win etc.

watched The Boot Room on youtube earlier, Stewart Watson said they had only lost one of their last nine and that was by a single goal to Rotherham. So they could present a stiffer challenge than would first appear.

The low down from my Robins chum.

Their goalkeeper is good, in fact very well thought of.

However, their defenders were like 'cardboard cutouts, again' against Wycombe - this in no small part is why their goal difference is as it is.

They are decent up top but rarely get games where they fire up front and defend well.

His view is, even if they go defensive tonight, we'll score against them. He doesn't think they will though - they know they are unlikely to keep a clean sheet so will be happy to attack.

They aren't a bad side, and have been a test for a lot of sides.

Only lost 1 game in 2022 - to Rotherham. Haven't lost in the last 5 - 2 wins & 3 draws including draws with Wycombe and Wigan, as well as beating Sunderland.

They have draw with Oxford, MK Dons, Portsmouth, Sheffield Wednesday & Bolton in addition to beating ourselves, Charlton & Oxford.

Alfie May is clearly the danger man, but Kion Etete has also been a key addition since January.

I fear we will need more than 75 points to make the playoffs, but there's plenty of evidence we are capable of doing that.

Let's hope it's your run of prediction form that comes to an end rather than the Town's form on the pitch!

Based on their form, I think it has draw written all over it. But I’m hoping they may have over done it a bit on Saturday and we can get at some weary legs early on.

You may be right, this prediction site calculates it as being 78 points for 6th, however it's dropped from 80 a couple of weeks ago.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/soccer-predictions/league-one/

Also our play-off chances have gone from 8% to 25% in a month or so.

I think 75 or 76 will do it. I think only once, about 10 seasons ago has 6th place in L1 been more than 74/75 points.

A lot of the top 8 have games against each other so points have to be lost, especially if there are number of draws

Yes, you're right about certain teams above us having games against each other, and of course it's wrong to assume that everyone will carry on picking up points at the rate they have been. I tend to concur with the prediction site that somewhere around the 78 point mark might be needed, but I hope you're right on 75 or 76. I've got some money on us making the playoffs, but I wouldn't have put that money on if we were odds on or evens, so I'm not really able to say I think we WILL make the playoffs. I firmly believe we can, and given where we were a couple of months ago, that represents a minor miracle. Here's hoping for a major one over the next two months!

I think we have as a good chance as anyone below MK.

We have the handicap of being 4 or 5 points behind but our form is very good, we have a decent fixture run (compared to say a Plymouth), morale is high, even for formerly fringe players and a manger who clearly the current squad has bought into.

However i think what is really in our favour is the squad options we have and the ability to rotate players when we play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday. That is going to make a difference the longer the season goes on.

We are not solely dependent on any one player....we won 3 out of 4 without Morsy. I think if Burns or Walton got injured we might be a bit screwed but otherwise I'm happy will all options we have.

I'm not saying whether we will do it or not, but I'm fairly confident we'll be in with a chance going into the last game of the season.

Not winning shouldn’t even be in our thoughts right now.
Be completely confident, top teams don’t let those worries creep in. We should remain fully focused on the win

Whilst i don't think there will be a meltdown, because of our poor start we are in a position where we can barely afford a single slip up if we are to make the top 6.

Cheltenham at home, despite being in decent form, is a game where not winning is a slip up

i think we will win and I'm sure the players are 100% thinking that. The players right now are thinking they can beat anyone in this league and they can...and that will be huge when we run out onto the Wembley Turf in May!

I'm just referring to usual keyboard warriors that storm on to TWTD at 4.45 on a Saturday or 9.30pm on a Tuesday night after a poor result.

There will be x number of people saying the playoffs would be over. It happened after both Bolton and Sheff Wed games and looked what happened after each. tonight's result does not define our season - win lose or draw

you see Joe you are missing the point.

There will be a slip up or two between now and the end of the season, but that does not mean we can't get in to the playoffs.

We are obviously extremely unlikely to win 13 games in a row!

I hope it is 6 points but i think 4 points from next two games will be fine... if that's a draw tonight and a win Saturday then so be it but I guarantee we will be closer to the top 6 than we are now if we get 4 points from the next 6.

Talking about May, we need to really keep an eye on Alfie May tonight, very sharp right now, that over his shoulder take down and finish against Wycombe will no doubt have been watched by us and noted...decent player..

There’s a difference between dropping points at home though and then having to get them clawed back in tougher away games - if we want to get 78/79 points then very little margin for error
