It's hard to work out which of the two Cleggs was worse.

At least Simon did stuff.

Ipswich Players who never lived up to their early promise eleven... on 16:40 - Apr 29 by Garv

Yeah, I was trying to work out what happened. Other than knowing he went to Leeds for 400k I don't know really? Being pre-take over I assume that was a discount price, but did he fizzle out while still here?

He was swapped for Dan Harding plus the cash. I think he went to Leeds when Dennis Wise was in charge and I seem to recall him saying it was an 'interesting' experience. Think he had a bad injury, hence his career progression from there. I actually think he got the most out of what he had when he was with us.

Le Pen never showed any promise.

Swap him for Civelli who was looking the part until his injury.

You figured that out in his 12 minutes of football with us?

Not sure where you saw the promise? About the only thing he did at Town was score at home to Arsenal.

Tbf, he did play well in a season opener at Boro one year when we won 3-1 iirc!!!!

And that was after he missed 4/5 really good chances!

I see where you're coming from with Sito. I thought we'd found a genuinely decent marauding right back, but he blew very hot and cold and spent a lot of time out of the team from what I can remember. I'd still snap your hands off for a player like him now though.

Ian Westlake was an absolute star. For someone so young he had such a good engine and half decent goals record over his time. Good example of the good times under BFJ.

Also a good swimmer - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/funny_old_game/3965687.stm

I loved Westie. I thought he and Matt Richards had a great understanding on the left for us, and Westlake was also pretty versatile. Yes, had a great engine and never gave up. BFJ singled him out as being super fit.

Shane O’Connor

Didn’t he call Jewell a c*** on twitter when he was released? I remember our fans getting carried away after 1 decent performance from him, but didn’t go on to have much of a career.

Dean Bowditch should definitely captain that side, given how many contract renewals he had in the hope that he would push on, without fulfilling his 'potential'.

Parkin came with a reputation for scoring goals, but 45 minutes was enough to show he wasn’t good enough for Championship football. Of the players mentioned, for me it is Bowditch that fits the title of this thread best. I really thought he was going to be a good player, but it happens with some young players. They just go backwards.

For the older generation, one of the few players that Robson bought that never fulfilled his potential for me was Kevin O’Callaghan, bought from Millwall with a big reputation as a young player. It just never happened for him.

In his defence, our tactics didn't really suit O'Callaghan. Under Graham Taylor in his Watford side around that era, he would have flourished I think, although he would have probably still started on the bench with a certain J.Barnes ahead of him.

I think it’s a bit early to call it a day on Dozz.
Bishop however is well out of lives, how many full 90 minutes is it he’s played now? 4? Great natural talent but just not going to make it here unfortunately.

Careful, I got slated for saying Bramble should have gone on to better things.

Connor Wickham has been the big disappointment there. He had size, strength, pace and decent enough skill but he hasn't really made the most of that when you think how unplayable he could have been. I think injuries and probably moving too young have played their part in all that.

To be honest Tesfaye's career really should have been far better than it panned out, I played with both in youth football (Titus was a striker then) but Tesfaye was brilliant too, they both had offers from Sir Alex.

I was surprised how Tesfaye's career went, he had all the attributes (ability wise) to go to the top, but obviously didn't have the mentality.

Gaardsoe was a fine defender who finished early due to a terrible knee injury. He was brilliant for us and even better at West Brom.

Indeed he was but for nowhere near long enough, hence not living up to early promise.
In his final few months at Ipswich and while at WBA it looked like he was going to become an international regular and be a real class top division player for years to come.

It's a difficult one as some on that list clearly didn't live up to their potential, but others didn't due to injuries, which you can't really blame on them per se.
