Realistically it’s going to be very difficult for an almost all new team to hit the ground running straight away. I fear that people are already too giddy and people don’t have the patience to wait a few months if we don’t kick on.
I have confidence in the owners that they’ll give Paul at least 6/10 months but just fear the fans don’t have the same sensible approach.

Interestingly this clip popped up on my Youtube feed the other day:-
Interesting to note they had made 12 new signings that summer. Look, I am optimistic for the new season, but I agree that there is no guarantee that we will hit the ground running with such an overhaul of the squad, in a league that is more competitive than ever. Will be an interesting season ahead, and patience will be needed I think.

Worth digging into Blackpool's bad start too. Their results start picking up in match week 8, so they got their act together after just 6 weeks of the season.
They had a tricky start too, Plymouth, Gillingham and Crewe away, us, Lincoln and Charlton at home. They were also unlucky to lose/draw some of those, they were actually above us in the expected goals table after 8 games.
I don't imagine there's any way Cook's job is going to be seriously under threat after 7 games.
You'd hope not, but when I read some poster's comments on here it just seems they've got their fingers crossed hoping PC starts off badly which is sad to read.

The was the 1st game of the season and they sacked the manager immediately afterwards.

There's been one or two that, when there''s nothing actually real to get upset about start Makin sh1t up to get upset about.
And then get upset about it.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
I think the majority of sensible fans accept that it may take a while to get rolling this season. Most will be happy to accept an average start as long was we can see consistent evidence of a style in place. We need to be pushing top 6 and improving by Christmas though. As others have said, anything less than a comfortable top 6 at the end of the season will be a failure.
I think we’re a good CB aaway from a decent enough first eleven. The problem is that we don’t have a lot of back up, esp in defense.
Cook used his free credit honeymoon pass at the end of last season, whilst some of us have warned that demolishing a squad and rebuilding is not an instant fix, funnily enough that's why most teams arent built that way.
I've said before also there are no excuses anymore, so this team need to be winning games in a pattern to be mounting a serious promotion chase, not take 6months of the season to bond properly.

Blackpool lost 6 of first 9 last year, if we do that it will be unacceptable. 99 out of 100 teams who do that won't come close to making the play offs.
It's similar to when people spoke about Crystal Palace making the play offs when they were bottom at Xmas, just a massive outlier and means nothing
Personally, I've got no real doubt Cook will get things going here quickly when you see how he's been backed and the quality he's subsequently targeted and got in through the door - in this league that sort of quality of players will see you through games, every team needs to gel.
The difficulty will come when he is robbed of quality players by injury (it will happen). Can we get through those patches while at least keeping pace with our rivals? That being a thing we have notably failed to do many times over the last decade.

I agree. Cook was unable to achieve much in a short space of time with Town's squad, most of whom he thought were poor or had the wrong attitude. He has been given what he wants - an opportunity to build his own squad from scratch. Now while I don't expect Town to be top of the league after 6 weeks, if there aren't signs of a positive playing style and a clear pattern of play, people will rightly be asking questions.
I think the fixture list has been kind to us. I’d like to think we’ll have enough quality to beat the likes of Morecambe and Wimbledon in August while the team is gelling, and hopefully when we play the Sunderlands and the Charltons Cook will have moulded the team in the way he wants and we will be at full strength.

But a number of successful teams have been.Norwich did it a couple of times, as did Wolves.
Not six months, nor a Keane-like 12 games without a win, but there does need to be a holding off of criticism if we aren't bossing every match from the off.
I'd rather a steady first half of the season, putting us in the top four or five after Christmas, followed by a proper push to the line (rather than our traditional dropping off the pace). May is when we need to be top two, not December.

Every team gets injuries and we will be no exception. The main problem last season was that the ‘best squad in the league’ wasn’t, as demonstrated by where these players are winding up.
Better players that are properly fit when the season starts it might help, along with medical support that is a bit more than a smart price box of plasters.

There wasn't much of a backlash when Cook pulled the rug out from under the club last season.
So far he's alienated some reasonable players, sold some which could have done better and brough in aa bunch of maybes - none of whom could be considered an upgrade - apart from maybe the goalie.
Not many are expecting a great start i'd hazard a guess.

So it’s Cook this time. Normally it’s a swipe at the owners, but a change is as good as a rest.
I’m surprised you are not crowing about your new signing Gibbs. I would in your shoes. You must be looking forward very much to the new season in the PL.

Of course there will be a backlash, as 50% of football fans are utter morons. We could do well this season, but realistically anything in the top 10 will be a good stepping stone to mount a real challenge next season.

I’m hopeful that having better players in the 1st eleven will make it easier fir the likes of Baggott, El Miz, etc to come in for a game or two when needed. The better more experienced players will help them along - as the likes of Hunter did with Walk and Beattie, or Mobray or Devi’s did.

What a random statement....'sold some which could have done better.....' How do you know?! That same group of players that had the two previous seasons to deliver in L1 and actually delivered nothing? Yeah ok then, lets keep plodding along with them. Completely negative before the season has even begun.
Lets actually see what happens before making a fictional judgement based on next to nothing. Lets be fair, was PC wrong with his judgement? Apart from Dozzell the majority have either moved sidesways, gone into L2 or not found a club yet.

No, I’m dying for him to do well from the off, and I think he actually will. But if he doesn’t do well from the start he should be under a lot of pressure, bearing in mind his failure to do *anything* with old players last season.

Those same players that had pretty much downed tools anyway and were going through the motions? Lets not forget, these weren't PC's players, and yes he might have told them a few home truths, but it's up to the players then to respond in the right way and ram those words back down his throat. If anything they just confirmed what he thought.
PC now has his own players in, it will take time to gel with the number of changes. To expect the team to hit the ground running straight away is a huge ask. Give PC time, he's got a proven track record at this level, he's not a novice - we're in the safest pair of hands since MM.

That game was rock bottom for them. On the up since. Can't think of a worse time to have run on the pitch and thrown your season tickets at the manager!

Realistically, our first month is kind. Even if we aren't quite at full tilt as players are still bedding in and new signings still arriving, we have enough quality to blow these teams away.
Morecambe H Burton A Cheltenham A MK Dons H Wimbledon H
I think Burton will be top six this year and MK Don's should be top half. But they do still look kind.
