Thank you all at Gamechanger, Cookie and the players. Despite tonight's result that was most enjoyable game I've seen us play in for years. It's very clear what they are working to achieve. If that's our 2nd XI I'm more than happy

What's weird?

You absolutely THRIVED from the disfunction in the club and for someone who is somewhat of an armchair football expert I find your eagerness to pour scorn on the current regime bizarre. The amount of change at the club is huge and only an idiot wouldn't give it time and understand the need and importance of patience.

Yep, was aimed at the post. We’ve had one today saying the transfer window more exciting than anything in 15 years, and a 1-0 defeat at home to Newport is now the most entertaining games in years!

What are people going to be like when we actually win some games?!

So, this transfer window hasn`t been exciting?. really?. Also even when we lose, the game can be entertaining. Plenty of games we have won have been boring, so it works both ways

Transfer window - exciting? yes
The most exciting thing to happen to the club in 15 years? Not by a mile.

Can losing a game be entertaining? Yes
Can winning a game be boring? Yes

Again this is just utter rubbish, this myth that because I knew someone that I wanted everything to stay as it is is just nothing like the truth and bar a mini meltdown when all the academy lads were told they can leave nothing I’ve posted suggested otherwise. And I didn’t know those players, I wasn’t ‘in’ with them, I just felt (and still feel) we were throwing the baby out with the bath water.

I have more hope now than I’ve had since those early weeks in L1 when we were top by miles. I’ve repeatedly stated fhe fact that Cook blowing the play offs has probably been the best thing to happen to us as allowed e takeover which was the biggest, best and most important thing that can happen to the club

The transfer window has been excellent, Cook is a top manager at this level and the squad is one which is going to be there or thereabouts so things are good. I can’t wait to get to Burton on Saturday.

But I’m not going to spout boll0cks about ‘improved performances’, been there and done that with Lambert. I can see exactly what Cook is trying to do in an attacking sense, but the defending has been woeful so far and this has meant we’ve spent the best part of two games having to chase it as have fallen behind and the teams we’ve played have been content to let us have the ball because of this.

We need to win some games, I’m sure we will soon - but anyone saying we need to wait for results before anointing Cook as the messiah is being painted as someone who hates everything about the club. I seem to bear the brunt of it because I had the temerity to know a player.

Just look back at the OP of this thread and tell me that’s what has been said isn’t ridiculous. The most entertaining game for years……!

I always look out for your posts Joe because hustirically you have been more knowledgeable and measured than most posters on here. You live near the ground and it’s obvious that you’ve been to may youth and U23s games. You are hugely invested in the club, more than most of us, and I like that. What’s also clear from your comments on here and on social media is that you also have a decent understanding and appreciation of football - tactics, fitness, skills etc.

For all these reasons you deserve respect on here.

All that said, personally I’ve been surprised by how cautious you’ve been over the last few months and feel that your criticism comments have on balance outwieghed your hope and optimism. I agree with you on Cooks utter failure last season - I would have liked to have seen him handle things very different. But even then, what was reported about his comments to ALL the players were somewhat wide of the mark (as I thought they probably were).

But this squad rebuild is surely in anyone’s book a plus and what we have now on paper is a massive upgrade on the last few years. However, despite your protestions, you’ve comments have tended to be more cautious than positive.

The first two results have not been what we want, but that the performances have been better, even from our youth/reserves surely cannot be denied. I agree that there could all end up being a bit Lambertesk and being hot air and false hope, but that’s not really likely given the quality of players, the manger and most importantly the management and ownership above Cook. I just can’t see it being allowed to happen. So yep, let’s be disappointed in the results, but there is, surely, plenty more reasons to be optimistic than cautious.

None of this is meant as criticism (football is about opinions!) and not really sure what the point of my post is (!) but just an observation from a moderate watcher of the comments and threads on here.

I think I'm generally always more cautious than optimistic about most things, probably a Suffolk thing!

I think Cook did a poor job last year, from where we were when he came in to where we finished he should have done better - I don't think that is a particularly controversial opinion, but others seem to disagree.

I think we've built an excellent squad, I think Cook is a very good manager at this level and I think we will be there or thereabouts - and that is what I expect, and in all honesty demand of the club this season. We shouldn't be in League 1, but it's a bloody tough division to get out of this year when you look at it - so it isn't promotion or bust, but we need to be picking up 85 points and seeing what happens from there.

I personally think the performances and the quality of them have been overstated - we were behind for 2/3s of the Morecambe game, and 90% of the Newport game - against 2 sides who would see a draw at Portman Road as a great result - it's no wonder we had so much of the ball and were able to create chances -they sat back and let us have it......but goals change games, we got back on terms v Morecambe so they started to play again and scored within 10 minutes. We battered Newport but didn't score, had we scored would they have come out and tried to play again? We don't know but I'd guess it's probable.

I'm still very confident we will be there or thereabouts this season - but I'm not going to perform mental gymnastics to get to the position where I'm defending things that I don't think are good enough. In fairness on here I've barely commented or criticised the Morecambe game, but because I wasn't salivating over losing to Newport I'm seen as being negative again. People see the username and don't read what I write.

I can't be the only one who thinks the OP in this thread is laughable? Surely not?!

I've stuck a few of those who dig at me constantly on ignore now, so hope that helps things and I have to stop repeating the same points that aren't listened to anyway

Cheers buddy - we’re not a million miles away in our take on things! I wouldn’t describe the OP as laughable though as it’s great to see us get the ball forward, play with some attacking intent with chances created and goal attempts made. However you cut it that’s a step up from the dross we saw for much of last season.

Keep up the good work.

The OP is laughable, imo. Some fans have lost their heads. By all means be hopeful, optimistic even, but creaming your pants over a home defeat to fourth tier Newport's reserve team and a home draw against relegation favourites Morecambe? Yeah, maybe not lads. We're a work in progress, let's see where we are a few games in, but let's not pretend this has been an amazing start to the season.

We won many games under Lambert in the same way Newport did, one or two shots on target, one or two goals scored - that was not an entertaining or more importantly, sustainable way of playing and it meant we generally tailed off at the end of every season.

Anyone who's played football at a reasonable level knows when their team is scraping wins that it's not going to last and they'll get found out in the end.

Entertaining football (for me anyway) is getting the ball forward (as quickly as possible), getting people in the box, creating chances to make the opposition work hard to keep you out - if we do that, the goals and wins will come..and as far as I can see, that is what we are doing at the moment - and whilst I wouldn't say "most" entertaining, I would certainly say "more" entertaining...

I’m excited by what the American owners have brought to the club. I’m excited by what Paul Cook has to say about our future. I’m excited about the players Cook and Ashton have brought into the club. There is an air of excitement and optimism around the whole club.

But the op was hyperbolic nonsense. It wasn’t the most exciting game we’ve seen in years. We looked like what we are. A team of strangers finding out about each other. A work in progress.

It’s going to take time and patience.

People were saying our 3-0 win over Bristol Rovers, with our “new style of play”, at the beginning of last season was the most exciting game they’d seen in years. They said that Hurst’s team v West Ham in a pre season friendly was the most exciting game they’d seen in years after the turgid Mick McCarthy years.

Nothing wrong with you or Joe calling the op out for the nonsense that it is.

This is about as fair and reasoned as it gets, not sure what the problem is from anyone else.

Ffs.

Joe didn't say it wasn't the most exciting transfer window, he said it wasn't the most exciting thing overall. In the actual post you've just quoted.

I feel for Joe at the moment. Since toilet gate he can't say anything without there being a pile on.

Yeah, you're innocent on this occasion.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.
