Luongo would seem an ideal signing 12:51 - Dec 21 with 7526 viewsDubtractor

Should be fit if he has been training with Middlesborough, lots of experience, probably would accept a short term contract.

Would be a very handy signing.

Top player at this level.

Luongo has Championship experience so could be a good signing if he will accept a short deal to the end of the season. Then if he looks good and we get promoted, we could potentially offer him a longer deal.

My only concern is that he’s not a ‘wow, Ipswich are really serious about promotion’ type transfer and we could do far better.

Not sure about that. He has been pretty much a championship footballer his whole career and played at a Wednesday team who have acquired more points than any other EFL team since the start of the year. Hasn't worked out at Boro, but that is a very good league one signing.

Agree. What are people expecting?

He would be back up to Morsy and Evans in the middle and wouldn't cost a fee. Ideal signing for me with Camara and Ball either injured or struggling with injury

I assume McKenna knows him from their Spurs days. He is a very McKenna-type player, good on the ball, easy on the eye.

Also he'll be fully aware of how he currently is as is still close with Michael Carrick.

You won't get many better players than him available to a L1 side in January

Feels like a very sensible signing - virtually risk-free.

We'd de-register Ball I assume

Would be about as good as we can expect realistically. Known by McKenna you'd assume, experienced and ideal to partner anyone we have fit.

If I was being mega picky I'd like a more physical/defensive midfielder to offset Humphreys a bit but I don't think McKenna really stresses that. Ball is the closest to that and he's hardly Pazelle's "African Anchorman" wet dream is he?

De-register Ball.

Easy decision.

He'll be part of the under 21 section as he was only 10 years old when he was here a decade ago.

Agreed. Looks a very solid signing if it happens

Fitness/sharpness might be an issue and I’ve no idea if he’s been on the slide in recent seasons, but having him train with us and McKenna getting a closer look at him will take care of that part.

Using this time to get fit and understand the way we play, almost becomes a seamless addition who can go straight in to action come January.

Suspect a 6 month deal with option for further 12?

Good signing if it goes through and in a position where we're a bit flakey with injuries.

With Morsy, Evans, Ball and Camara on decent L1 wages we won't be making a 'wow' signing to cover short term needs.

Also have Humphries and El Mizouni.

Perfect signing in my view.

At least if he's training here already, KM can cast a good eye over him before committing to anything..
I don't mind the sound of this one. Good solid proven player. And we need more legs in MF.. Wouldn't weaken our squad at all, imo. Once he's match fit and sharp.

Equally on point is that Carrick would give KM a very honest and accurate assessment of where Luongo is currently ‘at’. It would as safe a signing as we could get I reckon. FWIW, I really liked him when he was here on loan. But that was a long time ago and probably completely irrelevant now!

Luongo would be a great signing. Solid squad player at Championship level, but top draw at this level.

Given the fact that Morsy and Evans have played more than 100 games together, i think they will always start together when possible, but having the likes of Luongo to call on will be invaluable if we find ourselves in a similar injury situation during the second half of the season.

Really wouldn't surprise me if the deal is done and dusted. Add's some much needed experience.

Absolutely ideal signing really.

First order of business is restoring our squad strength to pre-season levels, which means replacing Dom Ball and Tyreece John-Jules. If we're getting Luongo that happens on January 1st and after a couple of weeks of training with us.

He's played nearly 200 games in the Championship and was the standout player in a midfield that bossed us at Hillsborough last season, he's plenty good enough. As an added bonus, he makes a lot of tackles and wins a lot of aerial balls.
